Lowton to Villa £3m

Is it only me that thinks United are doing business arse up surely we should have got rid of the high earners first before even thinking of selling of Lowton and McGuire. I can see us being lumbered with the likes of Quinn and Monty and a past it Cresswell on high championship level wages and being unable to repair the holes in the squad.

I was joking the other day when I posted Monty will be the new right back maybe that horrific thought could turn out to come true.

What if no-one is bidding for the high earners?

errrr we keep what we have got, not rocket science is it ......... or do a Westley and inform the tossers not to turn up for training next week by TXT message, LMAO you have to admire that guys style he don't take no shit from the pampered pets.

What? No-one wants to take Cresswell, Montgomery and Morgan on at £10,000 a week plus? That can't be true, can it?

Lots of people on this thread clearly struggling to come to terms with the fact that we're financially screwed (largely of our own making) and we have to bring money in and/or cut costs. We can't do this entirely on our own terms, it would be easy if we could. Unfortunately real life gets in the way.

The idea that we could've held onto to Lowton and sold Cresswell, Monty etc instead is just pure fantasy and people could save themselves a lot of anger and upset by accepting that.

We've made huge mistakes which we're now paying for. Don't think history will have selling Lowton in the Top 50 of Blades f**k-ups in the 2000s when someone with lots of time gets round to compiling the list.

This may sound like a troll, but, from the outside your squad is mediocre. I believe you kept most of the players who played in the relegation season? If you did, well they didn't get you promoted. What you must understand although they are High earners to you. They're not really that attractive to outside clubs I mean who have you really got but Maguire who can be brought on and improve at a higher level? None of your high earners would have a chance of getting in our first team. If they did, simple logic suggests they wouldn't be playing in league 1 now or even last season. Sorry if this upsets you

You know fella's it amazes me that in this day and age where council workers, nurse's etc are being forced to take wage cuts that make life so hard they are struggling to find money to keep a roof over their heads that three or four (so called) footballers on wages most of us can only dream about refuse to take a pay cut for playing at a lower level, a situation they themselves helped to create because their standards were so dire in the championship.
I'd make life bloody hard for them a few weeks training on their own and cleaning the bogs out would soon focus their attention on the fact that as a club we cannot afford to pay them the wages they are accustomed to without putting their club and employers at risk

And now you're switching tack.

If i was coming to the end of my footballing career like Cresswell, or just plain crap like Monty, i'd probably clean the bogs out for half a million a year rather than take a wage cut to £150k.

Trust me you wouldn't when your only tool is your toothbrush

Lowton did, for a start. Amongst other quotes;

"It's every boy's childhood dream to play in the Premier League and it was one of mine.
"This opportunity is fantastic and I thank the manager for giving it to me. Hopefully I can repay the faith that's he's shown in me and keep going at a higher level.
"Just from driving up to the training ground you can see the difference in the quality of things. The training ground looks spectacular and the pitches look phenomenal.
"It's a massive club in the Premier League with a big fan base and I'm looking forward to getting to work as soon as I can"

You can clearly tell he's gutted.

UTB

Of course he is going to say that after he has signed a contract. Doesn't mean he would not have been happy to stay at SUFC.

I thought better of you than blindly defending the club after shocking decisions. However it appears you are just another of the 'it'll be reit' mediocrity brigade.

I think he probably would have been happy staying at SUFC. I think he'd probably be happier still to join an established Premiership side, on a long contract, for much more money.

Yeah, blindly following = "it will be a rubbish deal if we don't sign anyone with the proceeds."?

But I'm making a point to a man who thinks we've actually forced a player against his wishes to move from the third division to the premiership on 10X the salary. Wibble.

Aye, just pop down to the money tree. Are you related to my wife?

Could someone please tell me how we will replace Lowton when our wage bill is still over 65% of turnover meaning in effect we cannot bring ANYONE in until the wage bill is reduced ???

None of the "it will be reyt brigade" seem to want to answer

Are you saying the massive wages Lowton must have been on were crippling the club and that getting him off the wage bill is going to save us ???

no thought not, although you might not agree with my views posting for the sake of an argument is silly at least be constructive with the reply.

Surely the fee means we can buy someone for a fee. I would also think that the 65% wage bill will relate to the latest set of accounts(i.e. our relegation season) as the accounts for last season wont be done yet.

In view this,i wouldn't thought we are too far away from that figure in view of some of the players released . I would have thought if we get rid of Monty and Quinn we will be well within the figure.

Does anyone know officially what season the turnover is based on?

Why get rid of Quinn? He's the best we've got, the only one we've got. Get rid of Monty by all means because he could be replaced very easily.

Agree re Quinn being our best player...but I was thinking more of the requirement to get our wage bill down and I think there is no chance of anyone taking Creswell off our hands (and obviously Morgan).

If Quinn and Monty are on £10k per week(and I am guessing at these figures) we will save £1million on the wage bill should they leave and should give DW some flexibility in the transfer market. As I said earlier,it really all depends what season's turnover figure this 65% is based on.

sad to see lowton go, but i dont think anyone can have a go at him for wanting to be in the premiership, hes got the ability to become a good and even better player at a good and even better club. happy with 3 million too, just can't see mccabe spending it on players for us.. lets hope im wrong

When we had cash we did nothing with it, apart from tidy the stadium up. We never used it wisely, bringing in a string of poor players who were either past their best or simply not good enough for the job in hand. That was down to the chairman and a succession of bad managers.

Now we're skint, we have no jewels to sell and we need to reduce the wage bill? Serious question here, are we fucked? Why don't we go into administration? If we can't afford to pay the crap players we've got then what's the point in going on? Not looking for an argument but I keep getting told I'm too negative, give me a scenario where we aren't just looking to lower the wage bill and reduce the size of the squad. Tell me what the point in Sheffield United is anymore because with the chimp McCabe at the helm I can only see us sinking even further,

Never said that. The point is that we did not need to sell him, yet we did it without evena whimper.

Business go into administration when they can't afford to pay their creditors. The administrators will then work out a deal for the creditors to get paid, but at a fraction of what they were owed. Since the vast majority of our debt is to McCabe it makes no sense for him to put the club into admin.

Serious answer to the "are we fucked?" question. No, but i think we'll be in this division for a few years whilst we can reorganise our finances.

£3m is hardly a whimper. I'd have sold him for anything above £1m, I didn't even think we'd get 750k.

(And yes i am aware that the £3m figure probably has clauses to meet before we are paid that figure)

When we drop another division we will truly be the Port Vale or Nott's County of Sheffield then when McCabe still keeps selling the Academy talent look forward to away trips to Lincoln C, Mansfield, Luton, Wrexham and Grimsby.
I bet you none of them ever dreamt they could fall out of the League. It does make me wonder where and when it will all end ?
Still I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell us "negative ones" it will all be reyt

As we only owe McCabe money,he won't send us into admin as he will lose money...a bit like turkeys voting for christmas.

Yes we are skint, have a chairman who has mis managed us but unfortunately, until a saviour bails us out (as Mandy did with the pigs) , as far as I can see we seem to have little alternative but to sell the crown jelwels at the moment because KM isn't putting any more money....unless I am missing something.

I've not looked at the accounts but my take on this is:-

We are where are regardless of the past and we have to sort it along with the ffp rules.

profit, budget and cash are three entirely different things.

We are still paying all employed at the Lane and we need to pay over tax and ni and vat. - We will have no significant income coming in at this stage so may well need the fee to pay our current outgoings.

Ok we budget for all the costs but unless we have the money to pay the costs particulary tax we are stuffed.

profits/ loss are based on historic information.

Cash is king and I get the impression that the club don't have it, whether Mccabe has the cash is a different matter I don't know where his wealth is , is it shares, property or cash sat in a bankaccount.

Also construction is a cash intensive industry does his firms have the cash flow to sustain the club.

The only way we would go into admin is in my opinion if we don't pay hmrc, as didn't S6, then they will come after us- If we into admin then Mccabe would realise nothing on his "investment" aside from a couple of pence in the £ if we have it. This in my view is why he has propped up the cash flow in the past and is using transfer money.

So my conclusion, for what its worth is this:-

Neither the club, Mcabe or his companies has the cash flow to bail us out.
The club is at the limit of its agreed borrowings from the bank - overdrafts etc
The fee from Matt could well be being used to fund our current cash flow position until the season starts say £120k a week for 6 weeks.
Hopefully we can start to recruit when cash begins to flow back into the club.
When we get down to the 65% rule possibly 2013/14 season things may start to get better

I'm p!ssed off and disillusioned with the way McCabe is running (or should that be ruining) things - but that is ridiculously overly-negative Metal! I fear we may be stuck in League 1 for a while but I can't see us dropping any further. And the 2 Sheffield clubs are fairly evenly matched in most ways - always have been , always will be - with both having periods on top. Talk of us being like Port Vale or Notts Co is daft.

Not necessarily over negative, remenber we've been here before. Just because we're a relatively big club in a small pond (division 3) doesn't mean that we'll fare very well if all we have is crap players. Given our current plight, talk of us being Notts County, Port Vale etc. may not be as far fetched as you seem to think.

Why do you think it is, because we're the famous Sheffield United?

Look at Bradford. Should be at least in League 1, but nearly went down into the Conference last season.
Could that be us in 2-3 years?
