Lowton to Villa £3m

or perhaps lowton thought to himself like many fans do,no ambition at the club, why stick around !

Let's be honest - the list of 3rd division players who've turned down contracts from premiership cubs will be a very small one.

No, I'm the man who ws heavily criticising him when he was running up enormous debts on silly projects like the WC bid, whilst the majority were getting all excited. Were you?

We're now feeling the inevitable consequences. There's no easy route from here - we can only make the best of a shit hand.

UTB

Catastrophic decision making on managerial appointments from Kevin McCabe has put us where we are now. But I can't criticise him for putting his hand in his pocket - paying out £30k p/w for Beattie for example; absolute madness.

The problem now is he wants to sell but wants way above what anyone is willing to pay. He'll keep us ticking over until he finds a buyer, but I just can't see it happening.

Moving forward, there's some good young players coming through and we may well bring a few in.

Carry on regardless.

No interest until last week when Villa called..... Mat Lowton

Of course we never sell to the first bidder or take their first offer

I don't consider selling 3rd division right backs to premiership clubs for £3,000,000 when we're saddled with debt as being one of them.

UTB

Come on, Alco. any Third Division club would snatch £3m from a PL team, especially one with our debts. My only fears are:

a) United will soon deny that it was £3m so as to dampen any excitement we may be left with. (it will appear as the usual 'undisclosed' or 'dependant on x, y and z'. Bob Diamond, eat your heart out.)

b) It will be a gigantic leap for a better-than-average (because we're not talking the 2 Kyles here) 3rd Division full back to jump straight into PL action. Expect Lowton to go straight out on loan. To any team other than United.

When is Francois expected back?

I intentionally stated the promotion push part, but I think we all know that the majority of the 3 million will go to McCabe.

On one hand gives us porter, on the other takes away Lowton...

I love being a blade.

Seriously though, good luck to the lad. Has done well, been loyal and always just got on with being a blade
Has had to prove himself at the club he was at from the beginning, even by going to play in Hungary.
Deserves his chance imho, but is he really a premiership defender?
I wish him well but the constant departure from the Lane of our better players, and those coming through the academy, will not help us achieve unless it is reinvested in the squad.
This has been going on for years and look where it has got us.
The only consolation for me after 65 seasons is that I believe that we have a good manager in Danny who might just get us back to the championship, but not unless we add some pace and fire power up front.
New investment in the club is needed but certainly not at the expense of us being sold overseas.
All very frustrating to be honest.

I share your concerns. But Lowton is 24 next. His time to make it is now - I can't see him going somewhere else and forcing us to watch on in frustration - unlike Walker.

The fee isn't known yet, and probably wont be. But my main concern is what we do with the proportion, if any, we get to re-invest. The current team, with Matt Lowton in it, would not get promotion.

Absolutely spot on, I said in a post somewhere a few days ago about how we sell the young players at the first offer, well nothing changes does it. One day the mediocrity lovers will either wake up or fade away.
It is high time the fans of SUFC grew some bollocks and let it be known they will not stand for this shit season after season. No wonder McCabe sells any talent to the first bidder when the fans accept a butt fucking without a whimper.
Agree totally. We should all write pissy messages on message boards and say that those who disagree with us are "mediocrity lovers" (whatever the fuck that means). LEAD THE WAY!!

But if you do that, you get shouted down at and told your not a blade

If he had any sense or loyalty to the club, he would accept that united downfall if down to the bad decisions he has made since NW, and sell the club for a quid.

I still think he is hoping some Russian billionaire will come in so that he can make a nice little profit on his investment.

He probably won't do it then.

And some people on here said i was crazy to value Lowton at £3M.
Good young English players with potential are hard to find. And should attract premium prices.
Im pleased that the lad has got a move to the Premiership & wish him well.
Now lets see how much of this money is invested back into the playing squad or to service the parasites that still suck the wages out of the club.

It'll only be £3m if he plays 100 games and gets capped for England. And if that happens folk will be asking why we sold him so cheaply. :)

Can't remember who it was that I slaughtered for saying that a premiership club would pay 3 million for him, but if this deal comes to pass than I offer my humble apologies.

The world has literally gone mad. But In a good way for us mccabes pockets

That was me mate. :)
Seriously i wish we had kept him & got rid of the shit. But hey. At least we can afford to keep Monty for another season :)

TBH £3M is good business for Villa. A relativly young ENGLISH player. Can operate anywere down the right flank. Good signing for them IMO.

If they've paid 3 million, they've been done dry. But I imagine it's nowhere near that as a flat fee.

He's better than Wayne Quinn, but he's not as good as either of the Kyles. I fully expect him to struggle to play in Villa's first team on any consistent basis and to end up in a (true) bottom 5 Prem/top 5 Championship side eventually.

And he's not that young. Amazing to think we nearly let him go on a free a couple of seasons ago!

Indeed. If we all meet in the car park, stamp our feet and shit our nappies nothing a bit disappointing but entirely predictable will ever happen again.

Good luck to the lad.
I'll still be roarin the useless fookers on even if we bring Kozzy back as replacement!!!;)

Gareth Bale £5m up front £2m early final payment Total £7m

Theo Walcott £5m up front £4.1m Early final Payment Total £9.1m

Alex Oxlaide Chamberlin £12m rising to £15m

Southampton know how to get a deal.

Would that be Bale whose next potential move will be to Man U, Real Madrid or Barca? And Walcott and Chamberlain who are playing with a Champions League club who regularly qualify and who are both in the England squad?

It's a bit different me thinks.

It's not about the money for me. Nor is it really about Lowton.

It's that once again we are selling Blades. People who have been with the club through the age groups. People whose development we have followed. People who we can have some kind of affinity with.

Seems the club's been a retirement home/half-way house/rehabilitation centre for some time now.

Hard to get behind a team like that.

The Kyles was devastating, this is one hardly registers either on or off field in the grand scheme of things.

But got to hand it to United on transfers. Birch said we'd more than broken even on transfers overall in last few years and the sale of Lowton must help further push us into credit.

Just a shame we've managed to get ourselves into tens of millions of debt in the process.

For those who see United's future as developing local talent and selling it on it must be another in an increasingly long line of celebrations.

Unfortunately the financial black hole will suck in the Lowton cash in and will make little meaningful difference to United's finances though it may make a difference to McCabe's.

But the big positive to this is Lowton isn't actually very good and whilst there is no way we've got £3m it sounds like McCabe may have seen them coming.

Having ploughed my way through all that thread I'd say Olle is being unrealistic, Villa are taking a gamble and that we've not just lost a right back but our main attacking outlet. Full backs are the new wingers and that is why Kyle W is so good. Matty created loads of our chances and caused teams lots of problems as they feared his overlap. If we sign a bog standard full back we've lost another area of threat which is a worry. I'd say it's a given that we'll all think his replacement is inferior but Villa are a different world compared to us and good luck to him.

We've got wage bill issues due to bad decisions made under KB that have lingered but we had Mica's favourite chief exec signing most of those weird deals off and then going to Portsmouth and feigning disbelief at some of the contracts they signed off. (on a slight aside will we still be keeping Morgs on as the best paid novice coach in the land on his player wages?)

But fuck it. Let's see if this creates a bit of movement and if we can fashion a team by the start of the season cos I'm worried but will still be backing us.

Nah it was rodley I think

Wish I hadn't looked for that thread though; forgot I'd promised 20 quid to the forum if he went for more than 750k. :). Will pay it when I get back to the uk. I'm sure Foxy will confirm.

How long ago was Theo and Bale though? Put your modern day valuation increases in there and you could probably double those fees? We sold early and we sold short. We always do, think Edwards, Deane (twice) and Fjortoft, Graham Stuart, David Holdsworth, Tri Dellas, Kyles x 2. And thats just top of my head. Every promotion bid is usually followed by a fire sale with SUFC. Always has been.

Seems that summer is the silly season when all Blades fans dedicate themselves to the challenge of being the most miserable, just in case things go wrong next year they can then turn around and claim the prize for being the first to predict disaster - of course plus all those who take pride in being outrageous and the 'debate' they stir up. I've read this stuff so often and we still don't sign players until the end of July. It's entertaining to see and observe the Yorkshire 'my black hole is bigger than yours', but as a fan (dare I say supporter of the Blades) I would kind of like to wait to see what happens. Thanks for the entertainment but I am still stuck in the mud, proud to have McCabe as an owner, pleased with the way Danny has given us a team and style of football we can watch and only disappointed that I can't get over there to watch the team and club you love to slate. I'd buy a season ticket at the drop of a the but can't afford the air fare. No point to this post but that seems to be the norm for the great in-between. Love the Blades. Buy you all a pint when I come over.

There was a time when I thought as a set of supporters Unitedites were the hardest done to in the country. Supporting a team that has not won owt in close on 90years but still managing to stay in the top flight for a good proportion of the time and never dropped below the old second division. Then we started selling our best players Jones & Birchenall in the 60's relegated soon after. We rebuild and have a great team in the 70's good enough to be 2 wins short of winning the league and Currie is sold up the M1........... relegated soon after, followed by a decade of shite and ultimately 4th division football
Anyone see the pattern beginning to emerge here ?
Dave Basset builds a team out of misfits and lower league scum and we get a bit of pride back and get back in the top flight, we then sell Deane up the M1, relegated next season not a pot to piss in and back to a 3 sided ground as we can't afford to pay to rebuild the demolished John st Stand.
We sell Deane (again) & Fjortoft.......... Charles Green he sells the team Dellas, Borbokis all the quality is sold off until we are staring at relegation again with Adrian Heath in charge. In comes Neil Warnock who keeps us up and starts to build another team from scraps and misfits, Enter sweet talking Kevin McCabe and his vision for the future who never really backs Colin with a lot of cash despite semi final runs in both cups and a play off pay day. Colin has to wheel and deal with little money until promotion is almost certain.
When we are finally back in the top flight we try to stay there on the cheap and fail, Colin is sacked and replaced with Captain pisshead and the geriatrics, decline or maybe we should call it free fall starts but the parachutes are all in McCabe's back pocket along with the Tevez cash. Year on year we sell sell sell anyone of value to pay for Robson's folly of paying crocks and journeymen their last big pay day and all the time McCabe sweet talks the fans round, we get from Europe in 5 years to we will build a team from the Academy, the Blades way blah blah. Then we start to sell the kids from the Academy.
THE SAME OLD SHITE YEAR AFTER YEAR anyone not liking it is shouted down called a pig and directed to Meadowhall ................. wonder how much Bramall Lane is worth ? BB's question of who owns the freehold might not be so daft. It does come to a time when there is nothing left to sell then what ???

So are we the most hard done to set of supporter in the land ??? NO
Reading through this thread tells me a lot of you fans McCabe arse lickers get what you deserve
A PISS POOR 3RD RATE TEAM

Dellas was rubbish. no one on earth could hav predicted he'd hit the heights he did.

Everyone has a value and in that case you are ultimately right. However I am talking about clubs who hold on to their younger players for a good period of time. Cardiff haven't recently been a selling club, I don't see teams like Norwich, Swansea and Southampton having a for sale sign up on their young players and while everyone is subject to that big bid, some teams say no first time up rather than yes at every occasion.

All the talk recently that we are a big club; well we will only become a big club when we start acting like one! We are a third division club, with third division mentality. I thought McCabe made a promise to build a team around the academy? That soon went out the window when we sold the 2 Kyles and now Lowton, give the young lad Kennedy six months and a few games then sell him on too, we are acting like the third tier club that we truly are, so don’t kid yourself that we will ever be anything different, so let’s keep Porter and Monty and sign the likes of Hill it’s a joke.

McCabe talks shite. Wouldn't it be better if we had a bit more honesty from the man? He may have a bank balance that would make a third world dictator blush, but its his prerogative what money he wants to put into the club (or not), surely he must have realised that football clubs are black holes that hoover up money? If he found a bag of Kit-Kats that belonged to Turry that were still in date he would have them on Ebay quicker than you could say "Hey, theres no bigger Blade than me".

All this talk of inevitability, economics and it's football is bollocks. Who said he wanted to leave?? The lad is 23, 2 years left on a deal and been with us since he was 9. He clearly loves SUFC and perhaps he was happy doing (at least) another year with us. We could have flat right turned down the bid. Sorry Villa, he is not for sale. Our talented young and home grown assest is not available. I used to laugh when Beighton used to say 'same owd, same owd ..... we tried to keep him BUT ..... we tried to sign a few BUT' but it is actually the case. Next thing it will be his pesky agent that is to blame.

I understand the economics of football perfectly well. If Lowton had a year left on his deal, was 25/26 and approaching a key time in his career, clearly going nowhere with SUFC, on big wages, we'd been opffered a deal we could not refuse (e.g. £6m-£8m for Kyle Naughton), had not been at the club since he was 9, was not born in Chesterfield and still had all his mates and family in the area etc then I could probably understand this. I really do see it as unforgivable.

The other thing that makes me laugh is this naive attitude that some of the cash will be reinvested. We all know from experience that Wilson will see none of it. This is not about a case of Lowton vs McDonald signing a new deal. I doubt very much it will make any difference.
Dark, dark times ahead.
