Not saying i am 100% about this thats why its in rumour mill bit my source is a good friend of matty and his missus and he told me today that he is signing for villa. Hope this is bollox but i do fear the worst and if it is true probably gone for a minimal fee

Why on earth would we sell him for a minimal fee?

He would never get in a Villa side, can't see them wanting him he is too old to be classed as one with potential now.

Cant see any mileage in this but stranger things have happened.

Only saying what iv heard. The source is my gaffer so dont really want to name him but he did mention a couple of wk ago the villa were supposedly interested and then told me this morning that he thinks hes signing. I also put it to him that he wouldnt get regular football. Lets hope it is bollox but i know he wouldnt tell me if he didnt believe it himself

Just a thought, but Villas new manager Paul Lambert took Kyle Naughton to Norwich on a season long loan

Now bearing in mind Spurs have just released Naughton (£5m signing, has the world gone mad?) I would've thought Naughton would be the more logical choice

Have Spurs released Naughton? They're notorious for holding onto players until either their contracts expire or they recoup the fee they paid. Naughton still has resale value (£2-£3m I'd guess) so why would they release him for nothing?

Spurs are looking to sell Naughton to Villa but apparently Villa are not prepared/can't afford the £4m-£6m fee.

He's not been released. I think that as a mix up with what PB said on Blades Mad.

They're asking for 6 million for him.

If they're linked with Clyne and Gunter aswell, I'd be surprised if Lowton did end up going there as I think they're better players than him personally.

If Lowton does move, I think it would be to a Championship club like Cardiff or Leicester rather than a Premier League club.

SSN saying Villa have made a bid.

So could be on his way it would seem.

Just hope the bid is of sufficient value to benefit Wilson in the transfer market. What sort of figure we thinking??? £2mill? £3mill?? Less?? More??

I'll probably get scathed for this, but anything over £1-1.25m for a full back currently in League One is what we'd be looking at accepting in my opinion.

See your point Daz. however looking at the figures that were being thrown around for Jordan Rhodes last season, i'd take no less than £2million and some add-ons

We'll be lucky to get half that. We're Sheffield United and we accept peanuts for our better players.

A fiver? Maybe an extra tenner if he scores for them?

would have thought its in our hands to up it a bit with 2 years and not 1 on his contract left.
though think it will be undisclosed with lots of add ons.
not one we want to lose but think villa will be a good move for him better than blackburn was for Slew
looks like 1 in 1 out then :(

here we go, watch that exit door get some use now, do we need around £1m that much to warrant getting rid of one our best performers last season??

Sorry to see him go, and yet some parasites to the wage bill remain.
Surely Lowton couldnt have been on that big a wage? Hes probably been sold to subsidise Montgomerys wages for the season.

Id take no less than £2million with sell on fees and an option on a player on loan from their reserves side.

1) He's not been sold yet has he? The Sky report only says that Lambert is pondering a move.
They haven't even made a bid for him.

2) I've never understand this business of being "allowed to have the option of a loan player"
We've allegedly done that sort of deal twice and neither time did we actually get a player (Leeds and Spurs).
This appears to be just something the "Board" say when they want to soften the blow of us being shafted again
If we want to take one of their players on loan (e.g. Daniel Johnson), just make an enquiry like any other club can.

Now don't get me wrong, I like and rate Matt; but am I the only one that thinks he's not quite good enough for a side that would be disappointed with anything less than a top half Premier finish?

Agreed. Great when he gets forward but poor at times defensively, particularly against pace. Struggled against some League 1 players so be surprised if he could cut it at Prem level. Perhaps they would play him in midfield - which is where I think we should.
