Hear me out on this one....

We're 15 games in and the table is so bunched up (7 points separate 1st and 17th) that any team can put a string of results together and have a shot at promotion.

That's not going to be us right now with all the injuries. But that will change.

My point is this: if we can get through the next six games still in the playoffs, I can't see the table being massively stretched by the time the World Cup arrives.

We come back at Christmas time - that's when the season begins. From there it's going to be a bizarre 25-game mini season for 5 months.

We'll get stronger as the season rumbles towards the final 10 games and we do have the squad that others do not.

I'm convinced the injuries will lessen and we'll see the other side. Even just by the law of averages and probability.

Other teams will get injuries and go through periods of weakness.

I personally hate it when things turn into a "Manager X In/Out?" debate. You can't boil it down to that. It's dumb.

Calm heads please. We will be ok.

As Hecky said, we're going to be chasing at some point of the season. It's easy to pin point why our results have dropped off so hopefully they can be worked on.

Please explain with reasons why
Our injury situation will improve.
The manager will be more assertive.
We will have fewer injuries.
Our injury recovery time will lessen.

Sorry to provide a stupidly repetitive answer based on no reality, but you started it.

I don't think the season is over even if we lose all the games from now until The World Cup. The division is awful and 5 or 6 wins in a row would see us back in the mix.

The problem for me is the Injuries have been going on since the moment Heckingbottom came through the door. it could very well be bad luck and after the World Cup we look back at the injuries as a freakish set of circumstances. If the injuries continue though after the World Cup then it will likely cost Heckingbottom his job.

The most frustrating thing is how much it's there for the taking. I know all the clubs will say that but we were top just a few weeks ago. In a few weeks time we could be mid table. Whatever people think of the injury situation the players we've had available should have undoubtedly picked up more points in the last 5.

With 10-15 players out, logic, probability and reality suggests it will improve in the medium term.

Unless you think our injury numbers will only increase until we have no players left?

I doubt that.

Sorry to reply to cynicism with cynicism, but you started it :)

If some of this is down to the training ground, this will be sorted soon.
I can’t believe Hecky and staff aren’t reviewing training, conditioning to see if that needs to be altered. They must be, everyone can see this is unusual.
So I’d like to think you’re right.

Our injury situation is showing few signs of changing.
JLT appears on the bench last night = RND done till after the New Year
Quid pro quo.
Apparently it is sacrilage to question how we amass this ridiculous level of injuries, why they take so long to return and when they do are smitten again.
Bringing management into question is tanatamount to treason wheras it should be encouraged and answers demanded.
We play no more games than anyone else. The demands on our supposedly finely tuned athletes are no greater than on Rotherhams.
Pray tell me why my realism is cynicism and what is your honest opinion. Mine is something is rotten in the state of Denmark. On a number of levels.

Denmark ? Are you suggesting we bring back Osula ?

Our injuries have been out of control for the entirety of his time here and we’re hoping we can ride it out till the World Cup? The injuries are a constant, getting players back during the break but we’ll keep picking injuries up when we start playing again, something needs to change.

We just need to hang in there until the break, it's important we don't lose to Norwich or Burnley.
Unlike most seasons there doesn't seem to be any outstanding teams
One slight positive from last night was Anel and Norwood not getting booked, so will be available on Saturday

We won't hang on to anything with the management we have.
Talk talk no walk walk.
Whilst we are pathetic at the bottom club QPR who are losing there manager smack their opponents. we struggle to run a bath and blame bad luck and injuries. Pathetic.

I get your positive take on this and it's noteworthy and appreciated.

But the bald fact is that we have a squad which still looks a lot like first year Championship Wilder in structure and tactics. We have augmented some areas with potentially talented, fresh players yet, like last night, the likes of McAtee and Doyle were reverted to playing dull, hopeful, untidy, disconnected football with no connectivity with the front two to forge real chances. We have a defence still looking like five seasons ago but looks fragile and error prone now. They are easy to bypass, to press and to force into tight areas or make bad mistakes. During our promotion year, sure, we had weak spots but on the whole, Sheffield United looked and played a little like a Premiership team, especially when we lost just two games from Jan 2019 to the end of the season and looked leagues ahead when we battered Ipswich, Reading and Blackburn at home and dealt the rations out to Hull and Wigan away. We looked PL standard ... but we all agreed that it would be a massive struggle to stay out of the bottom three unless we jettisoned players and bought big. Well, everything we bought big hasn't returned the rpice they came for and some of those very players in that team are still playing, having had one good and one shocking season upstairs. And now we aren't playing like a Premier League club, so why should we have aspirations for promotion if this lot are putting performances like last nights? Given that shown, we haven't a fucking hope of promotion, either automatic or playoffs (dream on)

The squad that others do not?
We have players who played in the Premiership, that doesn't mean Premiership quality players,we have young players from Premiership teams learning their trade here also ageing players who apparently can't cut it consistently in this division. We're work in progress at the minute.

Except QPR aren't losing their manager. They also lost on Saturday - I wonder whether their 'supporters' were clamoring for him to be replaced.

Who the hell is going to show Mcatee and Doyle anything?

The thought of seeing this team in The Premier League is my greatest comfort at the moment. I want to go up obviously but imagine how bad next season would be if we did.

They lost on Saturday but won last night.
We last won on September 17th. Let that sink in.

QPR are only 2 points ahead of Utd.

The period in which you state Utd haven't won a game (spanning a total of 5 games) included a 2-week International Break.

I think that’s a great post mate. However the injuries seem to be getting worse rather than improving. And I’m not sure this World Cup is going to be a magic injury reset when we come back.

A poster talking sense at last.Apart from injuries we are out of luck at present ,another game last night when the gods were against us, ok a disasters challenge by Basham cost us another point .according to some we are cutting corners on recovery which would be a crazy thing to do.
Hecki many times has stated players are in recovery which can't be rushed.Hes another employee who has been in football all his life and knows certain injuries can't be rushed he would a foolish man if so.
Some conditions can be played in ut only for a period or it will become chronic, Mcbernie has such an injury.
We have a very experienced backroom team would they put players under such stress so early in season,
In my opinion a big no.
