It doesn't look like Anel has trained so we could have another casualty.
Might tally up with Heckingbottom's poor mood in the press conference and alluding to being forced to change shape.

With that in mind...

Option 1:
Do we bring Gordon straight in and hold our shape?

Baldock....Gordon....Egan....Basham.......RND

Option 2:
Same shape, but with Khadra at LWB. Might work in a game where (hopefully) we have more of the ball.

Baldock.....Basham.....Egan......RND........Khadra

Option 3:
Or do we change shape?
We could play 4 at the back with a flat 3 in front, for protection.
4-3-2-1
Baldock......Basham.....Egan..........RND
........Arblaster.....Norwood.......Doyle
....................Berge...........Ndiaye
..........................McBurnie

Option 4:
Or we could go really attacking.
4-2-3-1
Baldock......Basham....Egan.......RND
............Norwood............Doyle
..........Berge.........................McAtee
.................................Ndiaye
....................... Mcburnie

Option 5 for me, do a Boro and have the game called off! Can we still use Covid as an excuse till after the World Cup?

I'd go Option 4 from your options, certainly at home. I did wonder if we could bring Boyes back from Forest Green but we can't until January and besides.......................he's injured! The Shirecliffe Sniper has travelled to Nailsworth - yes that's where Forest Green play! I didn't know either!

Option 4 for me. Any official news on Anel?

Baldock wasn't at training either. If Baldock and Anel are out that means we are missing Lowe, Stevens, Clark, Robinson, JOC, Anel, Bogle, Baldock leaving us with only RND, Egan, Basham and Gordon to fill five positions. Lopata should have hung around as he would probably be getting a run out. Hopefully the fears about Baldock and Anel are unfounded and they are available

Clark and Stevens the mystery injuries. I'm sure Hecky said they were close 2 weeks ago.

5m 10s isn't that them two running around pitch?

It's very much at crisis point if Baldock & Anel are out.

Selfishly, it wouldn't be a bad thing for us if we do get a couple more call-offs to go with the Rotherham one.

It's not just the number of injuries that is concerning it is how long players are taking to get fit and the number of serious injuries that seem unnaturally high. Not many short term knocks they all seem to be long term lay offs .

I think the new pitches should be done at the training ground next month. I hope that sees fewer injuries in the second half of the season.

They will wait until the WC is over, we have a full squad back, top of the league, then back to a Covid lockdown.

When I started watching dem Blades in the 1960s , there was one sub + we often went almost whole seasons barely having used him. The same 11 played every week on muddy pitches with a heavy old ball getting kicked all over by Tommy Smith , Norman Hunter & Chopper Harris.
Wtf has happened to players resilience when we play with a lightweight ball on perfect pitches ?
Anyway let's call off all our games until we can get some defenders fit.

Well may be thats the problem todays players are like a racing car and highly tuned and are not as robust and it takes just a small knock to injure them selves .Unlike Badger ,Currie , and Woody who were not rapped in bubble wrap and spent a long time in the Penny Farthing night club most nights .

One substitute in football was allowed from 1958 - around the time I fell in love with Sheffield United. Alan Hodgkinson, Joe Shaw, Gerry Summers, Doc Pace et al. Those players were rarely out with injuries, never mind the long-term injuries we are facing today. Something is not quite right behind the scenes at United right now - ten players with long-term injuries? Unprecedented. The club needs to initiate an independent investigation into what is behind this crisis urgently before it cripples our chances of promotion this season. As a minimum, the club need to account to us, the fans, for this injury crisis.

This stuff about the training pitch and injuries seems a bit odd to me, is it still being stated as an issue? Surely you would have to just not use it if that was the case and find some temporary alternative? Would have thought there'd be all sorts of elf & safety at work issues otherwise.

Something isn't right at all and it all can't be a dodgy training pitch.

I agree something is not right. We have now had a problem for over two years. after going so long under CW with only one or two major injuries - Coutts and Freeman and then O'Connell. I do notice though that teams we are playing also had long lists of players not available. Perhaps the WC schedule is compressing more matches into a shorter time scale. However PH has described some injuries as 'innocuous' but then we don't hear anything for weeks. Players are sent for scans but he seems to not get results or at least gives the impression he is not chasing things up. Stevens, Osborn and Clarke barely get a mention. Stevens was out for a long time before his brief return yet he played nearly two full seasons without missing a game. At the end of last season we had all our right sided players out and Osborn playing as right wing back - it is bizarre. The postponed match will give the team a bit more recovery time.
Even our longest casualty seems to have no realistic return date but he seems to be doing a lot of work in the gym. Can he run on grass or not though? Will he be able to or actually play football again. Somebody must have an idea by now. What is O'Connell being paid? I wish him well but.....!

Can't see Jack ever returning.

Agree with all your points . We seen to suffer an inordinate number of injuries both in training and during matches along with crazy lengths of time out. Is that on Management? Who else? Concerning.

It is possibly a reflection on the higher standards of match fitness and personal health regimes required by players today. The club also has a duty of care to injured players, ensuring they are not retuned to the playing squad until health professional give them the all clear.

Not much the manager, club and players can do about that!

If I were the Prince , I think I would be demanding some explanations - I lose track of who the fuck is the chairman or to whom Bettis or Hecky are accountable , but if it were my company and half my machinery was kaput , producing nothing to help reach our targets , I would be on that videoblower with a face like thunder , chewing someone's ear off.
I mean to say , there's only about £250m riding on promotion ...
Maybe the local boys daren't tell HRH they've managed to break half his machinery which is why they can't ask for a few bob to get some replacement parts ?
And that's why they keep issuing bullshit about players being close to a return.
Something very funny going on.
Sleepwalking into a heartbreaking waste of our good start.
One more injured defender of any sort or another leftie in any position + we are up shit creek without a free agent.
Even without further wounded ,
players will soon start easing off for fear of injury.
Either way , our performances logically must deteriorate , to say nothing of the enforced changes already made to RND & Anel.
Come on Bettis & Hecky , take some action before it's too late.
Remember this is the shit or bust season.
If we're not up by next May we lose Anel , Berge & Ndiaye , minimum , probably also Egan , McAtee , Doyle & Khadra , the rest are out of contract + we start looking down instead of up.

They were not allowed in English football until 1965-6.

Political incorrectness warning ...
These feckin snowflakes are earning multiple times what my old heroes got but they want to finish as rich men without ever suffering ?
Stick a feckin cortisone injection into em + gerrem aaht ont pitch.
Apologies to those of a sensitive disposition.
Bring back Bill Shankly.
"What's your problem son ? Do you actually wantae play fer Liverpool ?
If I hear yeez moan about pain once more I'll feckin giv yeez a trip to hospital + dock yer feckin wages"

Can Jebbo play CB ?
Can Blaster play WB ?
If no one returns soon + Anel is really injured , can we actually fill the subs bench with players who can cover the appropriate range of positions ?
Nominating our 25 man squad is gonna be like doing a bingo card.

Keep yer hair on and calm down a bit. I suggested it as a possibility. I realise that you have sand in your pants over the injury issues, but the solution is not always to spend money we don’t have. :)
