The focus of your post was on lost money. We’re talking about a woman who devoted her entire life to the selfless service of this country bringing £billions to the economy in the process. I’m sorry that missing one Saturday on the piss and a game of football in recognition of that is so abhorrent to you.

This article just about covers it for me...
Think seriously on this. 29% of the population want to abolish the monarchy. Think of all the BBC coverage of the monarchy you have seen over the last decade. What percentage do you estimate reflected or gave an airing to republican views? Less than 1%?
Now think of media coverage across all the broadcast and print media.
How often has the media reflected the republican viewpoint of a third of the population?
Far, far less than a third of the time. Closer to 0% than 1%. Yes, there are bits of the media that dislike Meghan for being black or are willing to go after Andrew. But the institution of the monarchy itself?
===
That’s Enough Monarchy Now

Fantastic- we are now to be dictated to by a “majority” of 29% are we? This sums up the social media driven agenda of whining self entitlement that we now have to endure. Just because you don’t like it, the majority do so either accept it or go and live somewhere where the majority share your views on monarchy and life in general.

The levels of overreaction, bile and posturing as a consequence of The Queen passing away and protocols that existed on such occaisions having been put in place is beyond ridiculous. It ranges from the all too prevelant self entitled who baulk at the slightest inconvenience to their so important life and seems largely the preserve of the liberal anti establishment left whose supposed mantra is one of tolerance, understanding and inclusivity. The irony. I'm not a Monarchist, but I'm not a Republican either. It just seems to me that it really isn't a big deal to let things take their course on this one and allow what is unquestionably a very large number of people to send The Queen off in a manner she deserves . If it grinds your gears so what. Do you think many beliefs you hold don't grind those of others. Maybe just step back, especially with the crass garbage that certain individuals have put on here. Tolerance and inclusivity. Funny how those who claim the moral high ground in such things are the ones showing a complete lack of both.

For me the issue is the enforced mourning on the likes of me who are pretty indifferent to the death of a 96 year old woman. If you wish to forego your Saturday enjoyment in her memory, knock yourself out. If, instead, you wish to carry on, happy indeed to take part in a minutes silence, that option should be available too. Even my kids, who wouldn't have recognised the Queen if she rocked up round ours for tea, have had their most enjoyable weekly activity removed from them. It's just a bizarre and utterly maudlin state of affairs. You WILL mourn whether or not you care.

Let the peasants who want to mourn mourn. Let the peasants who want to watch football watch football. Because that’s all we are peasants to the monarchy who do what they say or else. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask when he robbed people. Everyone single one of them have lived a life of luxury without lifting a finger from birth at our expense. So no tears from me
Just said on tv that up until the last couple of years the Queen had around 400 appointments a year … doesn’t sound like not lifting a finger to me!

Your missing the point

How exactly does the football been stopped increase the amount of mourning for the queen ?

Again the amount of money she has raised has nothing to do with Sheffield United versus Rotherham literally nothing

Could do. But I suspect the train times will be very early. Would you get up at 5 to go to Plymouth on the piss? I wouldn't. Paid for or otherwise. It happened to us in the PL for covid at Newcastle. I had train and match tickets. As it's near on, I still went for the day. I wouldn't go to Plymouth though.
Unfortunately I sometimes have to leave at 5 to go to Plymouth to work, but I'd rather be going on the piss!

It will when my haters stop replying ?

Thanks for the reply

Do you seriously think you are important enough to have "haters", whatever that utterly meaningless social media nonsense word means. You're nothing more than some individual who uses a football forum to tell anyone who cares what you think about a football teams selection. Basically no-one cares what you think in just the same way no-one really cares what anyone on this forum think. If I might just make one suggestion. Maybe engage more instead of being defensive and aggressive. I actually agree with quite a lot of what you post.

My word give it a rest.

You are not being forced to mourne. Cancelling the sports is a mark of respect. I don't quite agree with it but I can understand it.

It’s a mark of respect. An acknowledgment of gratitude for 70 years of service. To dedicate a momentary point of pause to recognise an incredible period of public duty. It’s a signal of value that we still hold some crumb of tradition and integrity. Football is fucking stopped for a few days, taking its rightful place in the backseat just for once, for a fleeting moment in time.

Is it really enforced mourning? It's enforced not being able to go to the match but just do something else ffs. I'm gonna get some decorating done and maybe go for a pint with my pals, I won't be mourning and I won't be going to the footy.

This false dichotomy and faux outrage is more insufferable than the takeover TV coverage. Your Saturday at football is insignificant and doesn't really matter.

True in what you say but it’s ridiculous that a decision was made to cancel an entire weekends sport I’m still expected to work Monday other people in retail work etc expected to work this weekend what difference does it make

But what difference does it make cancelling an entire weekends sport what difference at all???. Wouldn’t sport bring everyone out together to lift there spirits rather than sitting around thinking about it all.

Whilst I agree in part with the sentiment, your statement strengthens the idea that many people overuse the word 'woke' without really understanding what it means. You've misused it yourself here.

Postponing the football fixtures as a mark of respect to a dead monarch is a pretty conservative decision.
This. I love that I unknowingly posted about this on the twats thread at the same time.

To signify that a truly significant event has just occurred. Carrying on like it’s just any other weekend would be disingenuous.

But, as harsh as it may sound, the death of a 96 year old woman who I've never met is, to me, less significant than the footy. I genuinely don't see who benefits at all from this. Will the nation really lose its sense of grief if the football goes ahead? It's just this bizarre notion that we absolutely must impose somehow on people's lives, whether or not they care about the queen

That’s in your opinion pal it is a bad time but as I say we’re still all expected to work we’re still expected to carry on regardless with our daily grind why has sport been stopped an enjoyable thing has been stopped. Let’s have a national bank holiday on the day of the queens sad funeral so we can give the passing our undivided attention

It's not about grieving and mourning, it's about policing in London. They just can't say that because it'd be disrespectful.

Load of bollox pal. How can events down London effect anything around the rest of the country. It is a sombre time for everyone but without being disrespectful I recently lost a close relative but I still had to work and carry on with life

Closing down the economy to give anyone time off and postponing sporting events for a few days isn’t the same thing. We will have a national holiday for her funeral and sport will resume next fucking week. I don’t see the issue in having a pause to recognise and remember an absolute titan of a woman. Someone that delivered more public service than 1000 lifetimes combined. It’s about 1/3 the length of an international break FFS.

In your opinion

In my opinion we don’t live in North Korea
