Good that he's put his head above the parapet but its a scripted interview on SUTV. Nothing really challenging in terms of questions. At times when SB speaks about the Board it sounds like him and PH. No reference at all to any pending sale, United World, the lack of visibility of the Board whoever that is and rewritten plans. Answers as follows;

1 Loaded question about SJ did they wait too long to get rid of him. Answer No he just wasn't the right fit. SB seems to be under impression he previously managed West Brom not Watford.

2. Tough injuries played a part in the team not getting promoted. No acknowledgement of the lack of medical and conditioning support. If he's coming mentioning Mr Little Head of Sports Science as an indication we are looking at solutions would have been a positive statement.

3. Do we have to sell players. Answer No. All players have their price if we get an offer above our valuation we will consider it. We are still paying for the EPL players we bought. Parachute money pays for those players. We have had no interest to date in any of our players.

4. PH has a list of targets. Paul and I met, the Board? and we are moving forward on targets. We used the loan market well last year with MGW and will use it again. No reference to Olsen, Davies and Hourihane! We turned an offer down in January for Max Lowe. There is no pressure to sell him but PH may want to sell to get in players in other positions. 2 or 3 positions highlighted, individuals identified and offers made. If true sounds positive.

5. SB not having the criticisms about the training ground. Argues 6/700k spent on pitches 2 seasons ago. Didn't solve the problem so got to do it again. Contractors being talked to. Board approval to proceed. It will be done by the winter but not start of new season! Justification for this is you don't need to do it in the summer when the pitches are hard, really?SUFC snail pace mgt. at work again. SB points to new offices being built for the manager and a new gym as evidence of Board support. Changing room improvements are outstanding so in other words whats pissing the players off the most hasn't been started on. No mention of upgrading poor medical facilities.

6. The Hotel has issues on cladding. No timescale for completion or even any work starting on it!

7. No we will not be competing for top end championship players in terms of fees paid. We operate on a sustainable basis. There will be money spent but doesn't elaborate on this.

8. Finishes with a bizarre statement that PA told him following relegation he didn't want to sell any of the players. If thats true why did we spend all summer trying to get the best price for Ramsdale and delay funds for SJ until the last minute resulting in two wingers not coming in.

Overall thin on content and key questions not raised. Yet there is an acknowledgement pre season last year was a mess and we are looking to move quick and get players in. Hopefully that is the case time will tell.

Good interview as others have said too. The most interesting part was offers have gone in to 2/3 players, from that I would assume they are free agents. I wanted to hear whether the permanent market is a possible, but that question wasn't asked directly. Betti's stated loans likely to be used again, I'd expect that to be the better players so they're the deals to be most excited on I would guess. Is have liked to hear whether these 2/3 players are currently free agents but that wasn't asked.

:Snake Emoji:

People call him a snake & then when you ask why they have no answer.....'he didn't back Wilder'. I'm not sure he's the person to back Wilder!!

Is he a snake because he stayed when Wilder left? Presume Hecky is too if that's the case
If I could delete any word from the footballing lexicon it would be back/back/backing.

I fucking hate it.

So contrary to popular belief, the Shirecliffe pitches aren’t killing our players. That’s good.

The hotel. Is it the same people decrying it from Day 1 as a white elephant/financial millstone the same people wanting to know why we aren’t reopening it?

“May”. Board speak for “Maybe” the fans word for FACT but with the opposite meaning.

So from your post you've made everything a negative but most people think it was a decent interview.

It may not have been in his remit but as he spoke at some length about injuries I would have appreciated an update on JOC.

Not a bad interview imo, but certainly not an interview he's come away from thinking he's got given a tough time.

I would have thought that would have been the perfect place to ask about a certain Mali national playing in Belgium.

Surprised that there’s some money in the pot to spend on players

He didn’t clarify his statement, as I thought Hecky had already said only loans and freebies, but for some reason I interpreted Bettis that money being spent could be on actual fees?

Maybe and I hope that’s the case if only purely to demonstrate that we aren’t totally potless

One of the three players that an offer had been made to will likely be Filip Uremovic.

Signing on fees? Loan fees?

Positive noises, proof is in the pudding etc

But the training ground being fit for purpose the whole year is at least going to be a positive, lasting legacy of the PL money

Didn't we just announce that we'd let him go in the same press release that set out who we'd offered contracts to?

Looking to good players on loan as we had success with that.

This worries me a bit. Our record with loan signings is pretty piss poor (all clubs probably get more bad than good). Even this season only one of our six loan signings really even got in to the first team. OK he was one of the best ever, but that will be pretty much impossible to repeat.

Nothing wrong with the odd loan signings in general, to compliment the squad, but as a transfer strategy it doesn't fill me with confidence.

Couldn't concentrate on the interview for the first 2 mins, totally distracted by the size of his pupils.
I was just sat thinking... Has he done a massive line of Charlie before the interview? 😲

From the video interview with the Prince I watched on here, I got the impression PA was waiting to see how we did this season, before making an investment decision.
1) We blow it - we're rubbish - sell what we can and prepare for Championship survival.
2) Achieve / get close to promotion - look at whether we can improve the squad for next season.
I'm not sure how to judge the season in that regard, it's pretty tough to guage;
Wrong manager initially, poor pre-season, terrible start, great recovery, unluckily with injuries, cracking end of season, lost out on Penalties, could have beaten Huddersfield to get back in the PREMIUM LEAGUE (not Premiership - we don't play rugby).
So sitting on the board - how would they interpret the mad season we had?
Better pre-season we might have gone up? Give Slav more time? Had a bit more luck with injuries? Just won the penalty shootout?
If PA has his own computer to input these variables, he should sell the software.
So I don't know if he will cut the cloth in preparation or pump in a few more millions to keep the squad and go for it again (in a sustainable way of course).
But I got the feeling from that interview (gulps excepted when being questioned on the hotel) that Stephen was pretty pleased with the set up we have and what plans we have going forward.
In my head, I would glady stay mid-to-top Championship if it meant the board was keeping season tickets affordable, was investing in the social media aspect, kept fans informed, regular upgrades to the stand and getting a few additions to the squad.
I think though that the board is genuinely excited about next season and suspect a bit of investment.

Signing on fees? Loan fees?

Aye Sean, I forgot that loans also require fees

Still, if we strengthen and we fluke another MGW type in the process, I’ll be elated.

It will be just as important on who we keep as well who we sign. If we can keep the likes of Brewster, Ndjaye, Bogle and Berge and keep them fit, as well as keeping hold of most of the older experienced players, then hopefully we should remain competitive.

🤞🤞🤞

  • There is no instruction to sell anyone at the moment.
  • If an offer comes in higher than our valuation then it will be considered and put to Paul.
  • Several board meetings held with Hecky, and everyone is aligned on the positions we need to strengthen.
  • Looking to good players on loan as we had success with that.
  • Max Lowe - up to the manager no pressure from the board to sell any of the left backs. Offer turned down offer in Jan.
  • 2 or 3 positions have specific individuals identified and offers have been made to a number of players.
  • Again, all aligned to make moves early.
  • Training pitches had £6-700,000 spent on them 2 seasons ago. Not resolved the issues specifically with drainage.
  • Number of contractors involved, final stages of agreement on costs and it already has board approval to proceed.
  • Won’t be ready for pre-season but only an issue in Winter. Paul is happy with alternate pitches until the new ones are ready.
  • Training facilities not a huge issue for him, pitches is the big problem which is being sorted. Offices and gym already done.
  • Hotel - A frustration to him. No point opening during Covid and some cladding work needs to be done. First team and training facilities are the priority then probably hotel. It is seen as a something which will generate income for the club.
  • Club is being run on a sensible budget and to be self sustaining. Money will be spent this window.
  • No pressure to sell any players same as last season.
There you go. Cheers 👍

There should be money to sort the training ground out properly. The fact they keep stalling & don't see it as a major issue is a complete piss take.

Going to hope to pull rabbits out of hats in the transfer market.

Hotel on the back burner whilst we (don't) focus on the playing side...
