Since there seems to be no evidence of long-term clinical depression, maybe it was suicide "whilst the balance of mind was disturbed'.
I would imagine that most of us - even the most placid and well-balanced - have had moments when we've lost our cool and behaved irrationally. Fortunately in most cases this doesn't lead to suicide.
