If we can get over £10 mill for him i would let him go.

Has his liabilities which we all know about, if we can start building a team without being so reliant on him playing every game then it will be 1 step forward in my book.

To quantity if we sell him and can use those funds to buy 2 additional CBs, (a tall strong brick wall type and a young, more mobile who can bring the ball out comfortably type) then I would be ok with it

He's been a big part of our success but he's also not infallible but gets away with it because there are worse defenders in the squad than him over the last couple of seasons which by default make him look better.

He turns like a tanker, not the biggest centre half you'll ever see and plays in a position within the back 3/5 which is probably the easiest to replace.

I'd be sorry to see him go but I'd cash in if West Ham came in with a decent bid. A championship standard head it kick it merchant to replace him wouldn't be too hard to find.

Yep pretty much can't disagree with anything you've said there.

I'm surprised someone hasn't already taken him. He's obviously more comfortable playing in a three, with others around him to cover the weaker parts of his game (pace and height) but, as proven over the previous 2 seasons, he's certainly able to play at Prem level.

Unlike a lot of others on here, I actually think he'd be difficult to replace, certainly with the amount (fee + salary) that Utd would be looking to pay.

Players that fit the following initial Criteria:
1. Out of contract in summer, no fee.
2. For Champ players, if stay down, assume longer term view so under 30.
3. For Prem players, if go up, assume more open to over 30s if good player.
4. British based.
5. Ignoring the 100% unrealistic of Christiansen, Rudiger, Tarkowski, Ogbonna given their potential next clubs or overall wages.

Only added to list if promoted:
Saiss 31 (Wolves, lefty)
Stephens 28 (Southampton)
Shaar 30 (Newcastle),
Amartey 27 (Leicester)
Mee 32 (Burnley, lefty)
Tomkins 32 (Palace)

More realistic if not promoted:
Mawson 28 (Fulham)
Goldson 29 (Rangers)
Lenihan 28 (Blackburn)
Hector 29 (Fuham)
Sarr 28 (Huddersfield, lefty)
Barbet 28, (QPR)
Lockyer 27 (Luton)
Burke 25 (Luton)
Naismith 30 (Luton, lefty)
Bradley 30 (Luton, lefty)
Wallace 29 (Millwall, lefty)
Jeanvier 29 (Brentford)

Here is also a list of additional left footers out of contract, higher ones if we go up, under 30 (made one exception), not listed above (based anywhere):
John Anthony Brooks, 29, Wolfsburg, USA
Keven Schlotterbeck, 24, Frieberg, brilliant sounding name!
Joakim Nilsson, 28, Arm Bielefeld, Swedish
Hördur Magnússon, 29, CSKA Moscow, Icelandic (was at Bristol City years back)
Jimmy Tabidze, 25, Ufa, Georgian
Darko Velkovski, 26, HNK Rijeka, North Macedonian
Eliaquim Mangala, 31, St Etienne, French was Man City before
Yaroslav Rakitskiy, 32, free, released Zenith due to war, Ukranian
Diego González, 27, Elche, Spanish
Mats Knoester, 23, Heracles, Dutch
Mikel Villanueva, 28, Santa Clara in Portugal, Venezuelan
James Lawrence, 29, St Pauli, Welsh but never played here at senior level.
Paul Dummett, 30, Newcastle

Anyone?

RE: Champagneblade
A few of those would certainly be good FREE signings. Especially if we're hoping to mount a promotion push next season (assuming we've lost playoff final). E.g. Lenihan, Barbet, one of the Luton lads - I don't know them well enough to differentiate.

Egan would be very hard to replace, despite having some off games in the last couple of years. Might be a careful what you wish for scenario. He's been a stalwart for us, top quality for long periods.

Although he has missed about 600 easy headed chances in the last year alone...
Agree, I'm certainly not wishing him out the door but if we do fall short and we get an offer and he wants to go then you'd hope we have a plan.

Would be a hard one to replace. Not only has he been pretty consistent overall in his time here, he's very used to this system we play.

I wouldn't want to see him go, but every player has a price. If we aren't promoted wouldn't be surprised to see Egan go.
And now that Berge appears to be hitting a bit more form he could have more interest, plus I reckon his fee would be less now than last summer as we would probably need to cash in.

Sort of make or break for retaining some of our assets this season.

Don’t we already have both of those just coming into the squad ?

I just don’t get this anti Egan bile on here

We have an incredible number of clean sheets and in most of those matches Wes had nothing to do or save, so Egan must have being doing something very well

The Coventry match shows that we need him. The truth is if he has a poor game the whole team just collapses

Hoping he picks himself up and we rock Blackpool

Strange one. Not entirely sure on Sunderland's finances but wouldn't have thought they'd be able to afford him or his wages

Egan’s departure would be a loss that would for sure fuck up any chance of the play offs.

The views expressed on here describing his poor performances this season are woefully wide of the mark.

A superb CB at championship level. One of the very best in fact.

Main centre back of a team in the league above who is in contract and once played for them.

That's a bit like linking us to Conor Coady.

Bizarre.

For once, we totally agree.

There's no arguing that his performance on Saturday was top drawer however throughout the season he has not hit the levels consistently that we have come to expect. I am sure he would agree with that, and its not helped again with a constant changing , for whatever reason, of the back three. His having the ball and playing out of our 18 yard box is also something he certainly did not like during the Slav era and he has made some howlers passing it out. However he is a top drawer defender and would be a terrible loss and there is no doubt that he has carried our defence through some sloppy periods which due to those around him has left him sometimes floundering, but as you say our know notws can't work that lot out.

Can not understand why any Blade would want to see the back of him ,strange. There was one top notch striker who would have liked to see the back of him on Saturday .In fact he had an early bath never looked like adding to his record breaking goal tally . Egan had him in his pocket and you could see it was getting to him.

Might want to run this back dear

Think he needs to.see a sports psychologist
How he didn't score from that header with no keeper and only had to miss the man on the line
