Round 115 of the great Monty debate - Pinchy, I too have watched United for 51 seasons now and also played the game at a reasonable level (just to match you up on credentials of course) and we've crossed swords on Sir Nick on many an occasion over this past 10 years.
Today, Monty was sort of shit, sort of comedy and also did some of his usual necessary dirty work that goes unseen even by the discerning eye of yourself and his many other heavy critics. He was generally poor by his own standards imo, but he was far from alone. Doyle was certainly lucky to stay on and as Foxy says, he has a nasty streak that he uses cunningly, but he will pay soon and leave us short handed if continues some of the awful fouls he commits (usually on the blind side of the officials).
Quinn, as Sitwell says was, AWOL today and when he did appear, it usually led to poor decision making with his touch (usually one or two too many) his passing, (badly timed), his runs,(into the wrong areas and was then left gasping as if a tad unfit?).
The front two also left a lot to be desired today - Cressy, missed pen (that can happen to best of players), plenty of his usual effort, but generally his runs and partnership understanding with Ched was dire. Ched, how frustrating a player is he! Has some talent but no idea how to harness it and if he had another brain cell, he may well be dangerous, I really can't work this kid out?
The defence was generally sound, though I'm not sure if that was more Carlisle being rather clueless in the last third, but we withstood the ariel barrage in the final phase better than we have previously.
Generally, I thought we were piss poor today and if we play like that against an obviously floundering Chesterfield next week, they could still quite possibly turn us over.
I'd like to see Flynn start next week - He is a tidy little player and rarely gives the ball away plus he uses it rather astutely. He has no obvious turn of blistering pace but is 'nippy' over a short distance and once he has made a yard on an opponent, he generally uses this to the full advantage, more to come from this lad I think.
Should we complain too much after today? Clean sheet, fifth in table, 5 points clear of 7th place - but i still left Bramall Lane today shaking my head at the mediocrity of it all....
