Baldock

For me he is our most overrated player. Bogle is much better going forward and isn’t as bad at the back as people make out. The most frustrating thing about Baldock is his ability to run down the line and not cross it. This usually ends up in us giving the ball back in the corner or coming all the way back after being in a decent position to cross.

When we played through the middle last night it seemed that more often than not it went to their player. MGW, Hourihane and then Norwood towards the end were all guilty of trying to force passes through the middle that just weren't on. The problem was that we were too slow down the wings as well.
I don’t think we passed it quick enough to go through the middle or the wings … it was like watching robots again… what I would give to ‘get in behind’ …. For me we still play with 5 defenders 3CBs and 2 sitting MD and 5 attackers with no fluency between the two…

Funny how last season everyone said wing back wasn't his position and he'd be much better in a back 4, he wasn't.

The same people say he doesn't offer much going forward but is solid defensively, he isn't.

Bogle should have the right back spot tied down for the rest of the season now and we should be actively trying to offload Baldock in the summer as he'll be a very well paid sub but we might be able to get a bit of a fee for him

I didn't think Baldock did much wrong last night... its pointless putting balls into the box for a bloke that stands rooted to the spot and then just shuffles off as soon as we've lost possession.

One thing that McBurnie needs to learn is that he needs to make runs into the box rather than just be in the box
Amazing that McBurnie even gets the blame for Baldock being poor in the final 3rd

McBurnie still has not learnt from Sharp and the moves he makes in the box. As someone pointed out against Birmingham, watch Sharp's movement on Bogle's goal. He is peeling away from the defenders to give himself space and Bogle an option to lay it back across goal.

McBurnie doesn't do enough to find space in the box and a defender has to leave him unmarked which with his height they won't do.

What I love with Billy is that he gets pissed off when the ball doesn’t get put where he runs. He backs himself everytime.

McBurnie needs to command the ball into him where he wants it.

It always used to piss me off with Cotterill and the likes of Campbell-Rice, they’ve piss about with the ball before eventually putting it in and the strikers could’ve been in the box and static waiting for the ball to come in.

metalblade its not that McBurnie is to blame, it’s that he’s not giving an option, so you end up with either keeping possession and not putting the ball in or you put the ball in knowing that the main striker is static and surrounded by defenders.

McBurnie would be better off running back out or the box when it’s like that, leaving space for MGW, Ndiaye, the central midfielders or the Left wing back to burst in late.

We need to be better in the box and down the wings

Mcburnie came with a big reputation in this league and needs to be playing regularly he’s been pissed about really.
RND is improving game by game Bogle needs to start these two are the key for McBurnie
Norwood is quality championship class but needs to get the angles right to deliver crosses instead of pinging balls out wide

It's a shame our goal scorer was being rested, otherwise it might have been a different outcome.
Probably, although three of the chances were headers by a tall player and Billy’s recent record on one to ones is not great !
He would probably have scored from what was not obviously a chance, which is his forte.

Another one desperate to slag Sharp off.

Not at all ! He is one of the best strikers we have and have had.
I pointed out that his recent history of one to ones is not good: that is factual.
I also pointed out that he creates and scores goals out of what few would see as chances.

I thought Baldock was shockingly bad last night, whether this is because he’s just starting to get back into the team in his preferred position or not I don’t know. The amount of times he refused to whip it in for McBurnie was ridiculous, and this is where I stick up for Mcburnie because Baldock just doesn’t play to his strengths. Early balls into the box for him to attack. We really missed Bogle and I didn’t think I’d be saying that at the beginning of the season.

The most infuriating part is that his stubborness to never put the cross in first time just makes the situation more difficult for himself. He gives the defender time to set up and then he finds himself forced into a corner with no space to cross or pass to anyone.

I mean, it might be worth taking into account that he was injured and then had to play 3 games in a row in the space of a week 🤷‍♂️

Both Hourihane and Norwood play deep so the distance the ball has to travel is causing risk. Also MGW and Ndiaye play too much to the wings hence less options through the middle.
Berge moved to the right hand side too. If we were to crack them open it was from a player receiving the ball centrally and driving to the box lay off a ball for others.

If an opposition player comes within 20 yards of him , he does an 180 degree shift & passes back , not good enough for the right wing back role anymore , offers nothing going forward .

yeah bogle is the better of the 2 now and not sure about baldock at lwb he got forward in to some great crossing positions against udders but continually came back on to his right foot which gives the opposition defence chance to set up the ball has to go in early and needs a left footer at lwb

He concentrates on trying to "muscle" his man too much. Tries to intimidate them then like Lewis-Potters sends him for a hot dog.

In his defence GB has not played for a while and did play alright against West Brom.

He's been getting in crossing positions and turning back for 18 months now, he hasnt changed or developed its the same story

Mgw left ground last Wednesday with ice on his leg but still played Saturday
