Anyone agree that we should be well capable of getting 14-16 points out of that lot and getting back on course for automatic promotion?

With the players we have, we should piss this league, eh Darren?

Out of the opponents in our next 6 games (we have not played them yet before reaching the halfway stage) only Notts County are in the top 9 of this division

It's not a bad list of fixtures to try kick start our season, five of the next seven games are at home too. BUT - we need to use those games to establish some sort of platform that allows us to progress, we can't just hope that a few poor opponents will somehow turn us into a team that's good enough to win promotion.

it seems strange to say this, but despite us being in the top 6,we are badly lacking in self confidence, especially at home.i fear that the ghost of last season may be upon us were we are frightened to death at making mistakes in front of the home crowd.
a clean sheet is needed to excorcise the demon.

Well, that's what I thought and 7 games in it looked I was right. The wheels have come off a bit since then...

I'll hazard a guess that you haven't seen too much of "the players we have" over the last year or so?

Not that much, but the likes of Simonsen, Evans, Cresswell, Monty, Quinn, Williamson etc had spent virtually the whole of their careers in the top two divisions. In the ruthless world of football, you don't have a career like that by fluke; hence I don't think it is an unreasonable conclusion that player for player our lot are much better footballers than the likes of, say, Stevanage's players.

How you then explain results like today, I don't know. An collective loss of form by so many players seems unlikely. Maybe it is a confidence thing. In the first half of last season we were heading for a lower mid table finish. God knows what Adams did to the players, but four wins under his tenure tells his own story and must have left the players with confidence at rock bottom. We have a good start to this season and all seems rosy but, as some one pointed out, since our first defeat almost 2 months ago we have won only two games and have not look convincing in any game, Colchester at home apart. Perhaps the shaky confidence has gone into free fall again - hence performances like todays.

Simonsen - Average player lacking confidence
Evans, - just rubbish
Cresswell - past it
Monty - his style is bizarrely more valuable higher up the leagues that lower down, when you want to dictate play
Quinn - The one player who can shine. But often doesn't.
Williamson - Crock.

The reputations and salaries exceed current abilities. By a long way.

That said, all it takes is a few exceptional players to unlock a few doors. I can't see the light at the minute though.

I just think losing is a hard habit to break and it's all too comfortable for too many who've lost too many for too long now. Couple that with the sure and safe knowledege all will know their current contracts will never be repeated, no matter how hard they try.
