The fields below Handsworth rec would be plenty big enough, maybe where Middlewood Rovers play on Waverley lane if extended bordered to the East by the railway and Sheffield Parkway to the North

Sorry, closer to home - the existing site, not The Lane or our house!
The helipad pitches? They're pretty flat and we'll drained. Big site as well. Packwood springs next door too. Not sure on how flat that is though.

I was a season ticket holder for about 8 years from the age of 6 at the Lane, I decided at 15 it would be better to play a sport so became a hockey player which I played until 1999.
In the late 70's Castle Dyke was our home ground, not the easiest to get to, just past the Hammer and Pincers but I have to say it was the most exposed, coldest pitch we ever played on. The changing rooms were colder than a witches tit. After one season, Yorkshire Hockey banned it from being used because it froze making it totally unpayable for most of the Winter plus it was anything but flat, so far too dangerous for hockey
What is now the HSBC ground on Hathersage Road, are/was a good set up, well looked after and a really good clubhouse, Initially they were Limb Lane pitches then Midland Bank took them over and I played a lot of hockey there on Sunday mornings and in summer tournaments
The pitches further down were Granville College Sports pitches, again very exposed and cold and prone to getting very, very wet. They had a couple of hockey pitches there and were never that good.
Decided to pack hockey in, in 1999 when Astra surfaces took over, the game became a lot quicker and the players a lot younger, so came back to the Kop
Did you know Ted Kent? He was a teacher at Maud Maxfield and got the pupils playing hockey a few times.

Often wondered what 'Oak's park is about ? last time I can remember that area being used was when they had a Fair there......

Certainly did Silent, the club I spent virtually all of my hockey life at was based at Abbeydale Sports Club and Ted was our chairman. I took a few bollockings off him during committee meetings (deserved).
He was playing hockey right up to the time he passed away and had the love and respect of everyone in the club because he knew how hockey worked, how to talk to people and how to manage situations and get the best out of someone. Every amateur club needs a Ted Kent, truth be told every professional club would benefit from someone like him as well.
I played alongside his son Simon for quite a few years as well

It is, but it's getting smaller as the council sells bits off......
Lol they sold a house that was already a house and the tennis courts are leased to a company who manage tennis courts. All in all both deals had a positive impact on the park. The house got renovated and so did the tennis courts.

The major downside of living in a city built on 7 hills. The west of Sheffield would be a perfect place to put one but there are very few flat areas. It would be perfect prep for playing Yeovil though!

That’s a huge site at Norton, big enough to build new training facilities and a new Stadium..... just sayin’

the council hasnt sold any bits of the park they sold a delapidated cottage that was a liabilty rather than an asset outside the park and made money on that sale that was then reinvested into the park.

maybe stop spouting bollocks and do some research

It was part of the park. 🙄

I don't know some of this Labour lot would sell their sisters.
The bollocks you spout is unreal. You have created a fantasy world. As a rule politicians of one particular colour have instigated the selling / privatising of...
Public transport.
Utilities.
Council housing
British Steel
Large bits of London to ex KGB officers.
Even the fucking probation service.
List is endless.
Go and check of which party they represent when you have wiped the dribble off your chin.

Sorry, you have listed 3 bad examples.
2 of them are shut down not sold off and one of them is regulated by a 3rd party group.
If you were bright, you could have thrown at me a playing fields off this very thread.
Public space sold to a private school.. what type of fuck wittery was that for a left wing council group, shameful.
But you aren't.

Loads of space near old Sheffield airport.
The land out there either side of the parkway is going for half a million an acre. It’s not just sat around doing nothing. It’s owned by the uni and private developers selling to the likes of mclaren, Boeing and ITM power. The club are not looking to pay that amount, I promise you.

I’ve said it before on here. The clubs attempts to find a new training ground have been amateurish from start to finish, done on the cheap with a team of third division consultants who just happen to be blades rather than paying properly for people who could get the job done. They are looking to pay agricultural land value when every bit of flat green space in sheffield that size is sat on by housing developers. They have been a naive joke to deal with. Whatever is going on on the pitch, our club is run like a league 1 outfit off it im afraid

to be fair to the prince its not all on him its hard to believe we were run by a property man before the prince came in, if McCabe had any foresight he would have tied up the land near he airport/east end/brownfield sites years ago when it was going cheap rather than fcuking about in China etc and building hotels
