Outgoing? Mousset?

I understand why you raise the option of extending his deal by a year SB. I'm not sure whether the club have an option to do so but, if so, it would cost circa £1m in salary (possibly less if not and they look to negotiate a 12 month deal). Given his record to date, is it worth staking that amount in order to hopefully/potentially realise a profit by him coming good and attracting a suitor - I'd say not and I'd much rather invest that amount in promising youth. Considering he's not even training with the squad, I'd say the chances of the club taking the chance are low and expect him to move-on in summer.
I remember seeing something earlier this season that there was an option of 1 year.

Sure invest in the Youth, but he's with us until the summer whatever unless we get a buyer. So give an incentive.

He's an experienced player and a talent, if we can get/ keep him fit we can sell him to Newcastle for 100 Billion. Its a big if

Never mind what Dore Chippy has done to him - imagine what he'd be like if he got a taste for chicken parmos while he's up in the North East?

The whole Mousse saga that we've seen in recent weeks has been:

  • Manager yet again bemoaning the shape that Mousse is in and (perhaps rightly or wrongly, depending on your stance) bluntly saying that he needs to sort himself out, get fit, but he's not currently training with the first team.
  • Mousset posting images and videos which show him working his arse off to get in shape.

Both of these, at face value are correct in my opinion. The manager has shown within weeks of being appointed on a 5 year deal, that he won't settle for low standards from any of the players regardless of their sell on value and its a message to the rest of the squad.
As for the player, i don't really know what Mousse is trying to prove on insta, nor care really, but its good to see that he's working hard and basically doing what the manager has publicly slated him for not doing. So fair play, he's doing what he needs to do for his job and profession.

The problem for the club is that the financial situation means we can't just replace Mousse with a new signing, whilst he's not with the squad he's not giving us anything and he's also not putting himself in the shop window because of what the manager has said. So perhaps we have an option to extend him by 1 year and perhaps thats why both the club and player are taking this last step, get him fit and firing and get the best out of him next season...

Honestly i don't know whats the best option financially, let him go for nothing in the summer, extend his contract for another year... both are risky. But losing him in the summer takes him off the wage bill.

Personally, I want him to be at his best and firing on all cylinders for one season in the red and white. I think he's a real talent wasted. I want him to prove me wrong, at United.

Assuming he's on £20k a week and we have a one year option on him, that's circa £1m all in for him for one season.

Does he return well on a £1m investment?
The only way to assess is by looking at his most recent history...

To me, the answer is an obvious 'No' for a club in our position. The blokes a total liability. Not only does he provide no impact on the field, but he is a total unprofessional off it.
It's a shame because (Jack O'Connell aside) he's the most talented player on our books with an extraordinary ceiling if he ever decided to try.

The big flaw in the give him another year so we can sell him is that, for his value to go up he'll have to do well in the first half of the season, then he can sign a pre contract somewhere else and sit on his arse for the second half of the season if he fancies it. Too much downside for me

It's not just about his fitness. It's about everything on top of that. Including playing unregistered football matches.

Even if you watch Wes interview on SUTV, Wes says the one who gets fined the most is Moose.

It's his professionalism rather than his fitness that has ruined it for him.

You considered an angle I didn't.

For our £1m investment we give ourselves a 12 month window in which to potentially sell and make profit on our investment (which would of course be less than the £1m given that he'd be sold before the end of his deal).

But in order for us to recoup anything north of £1m on a player in the final year of his contract, he'd have to put in some serious performances before the January transfer window. Even then, I imagine an overseas club would sign him on a pre-contract for the Summer and he'd toss the second half of the season off.

Something us on the outside can't confirm is how much the penny has finally dropped and also how much he is intent on staying in England.

What Hecky has said has obviously affected him or he wouldn't be posting his progress. But it will take more than dim lighting and a bit of shadow on your abs to prove he's where he needs to be. It would be better showing his before and after body fat, his improved bleep test results and other stamina and endurance results which suggest he may be able to complete a full 90 minutes.

Maybe asking to play in the U23s as well would help.

He's at a crossroads. Though he has been for a while. And so are United.

From the club's side, where are we going to pick up a 10m striker in the next 12 months for an outlay of 1m including wages?

From his side, he will never play for a bigger club than us or be in a better position to be a top flight footballer once again.

Rather than be settled, he'll just end up as the guy teams take a punt on for a year at most. Or he'll have to settle down at some average League Deux team in France where he's a big player for a team that attracts 10k gates.

I really struggle to see McGoldrick here next season based on his current contribution, especially with the emergence of N'Diaye, and with Jebbison hopefully returning. Gibbs-White is also going to deny him minutes this season too. Sharp will remain but he'll be there in a support role for Brewster. McBurnie will still be under contract too.

But there is room there for Mousset if he can prove his value. But it's down to him. Last chance saloon time.

Shifting him out on loan and saving (up to) £500k in wages would be a great result for Utd, especially if the funds could be directly to land a target.

Of course, Utd being Utd, something will happen to stop it going through - him being taken hostage by the owner of Dore Chippy on 31-Jan and not being released until a ransom is paid, rupturing an ACL after slipping on a slice of pizza, hernia in stomach wall after all-you-can-eat carbonara session - I honestly wouldn't be surprised if any of them actually happened. At least his driving ban means it won't be a car accident!

Strange for him not to want to do so. He’ll still be under contract so his wage will stay the same and he increases his chances of earning a reasonable deal where ever he ends up next if he’s playing football
Too much like hard work. By all accounts, he’s a nice fella but seems to have not an ounce of professionalism, ambition or dedication to his career. He seems pretty content to be sitting on his arse, pick up his wage and eat takeaways.

I think, send him out on loan, see how he gets on, then decide whether or not to take the year option.....
He might get back to some sort of player with 10/15 games and then a preseason in him, if not, then we dont renew and take the £10m hit.
