I was never particularly comfortable with the “he shags who he wants chant”. I was hoping we’d heard the last of it if I’m being honest.
Anyone surprised at the views of some of our fan base? The two blokes next to me at Derby booed the taking of the knee, and we have idiots who think that non-consensual sex*is a right to be defended.

*Not saying Evans was guilty of this, but singing “he’ll shag who he wants” is definitely saying this.

The people who think he's a hero also think it's cool to shag women who are so drunk they don't know who you are. They probably also think "she had it coming". That's why he's a hero to a lot of them. They fantasise about doing what he did
its football based but ched Evans never was. you worry for the partners of these people because they clearly think these acceptable on nights out or holidays

You think he's a hero because he shagged a woman (who was so drunk she didn't know it was him) and you have never managed it?
Years later, I was still reading about the young lady being so drunk, paralytic, out of it, comatose etc that she couldn't possibly give consent to sex. And yet I remember seeing her in that famous video a short while earlier in the evening, coming out of the hotel walking to the taxi and retrieving a pizza from the back of a taxi, then walking back into the hotel carrying the pizza and all the time she's doing that without falling or stumbling in any way, she's wearing 6 inch high heels! If she could manage all that without faltering, then it seems reasonable to believe that she was also able to give consent for sex.

Meant to also say that 'giving consent' does not mean that the lady knew Ched or remembered him later. As came out at the second trial, she couldn't remember other partners after sex.

About 10 years ago I was at an event with free booze. I absolutely hammered it and was necking wine off tables (just lost my mum so wasn't a smart idea to be drinking in the first place). My last memory was at about 11:00, by 11:30 I was 'apparently' placed on a bench outside as I had just turned a corner and I wasn't really responding to anyone, I fell off the bench and landed directly on my head. Ended up going to hospital for brain scans and woke up in the morning with tubes where they shouldn't be. Luckily I was fine, just damaged ego.

Over the space of 30 mins, I went from being a bit loud and a terrible dancer/life of the party to losing all my balance and nearly braining myself on the road.

Over the space of 30 mins, I went from being able to consent, to definitely not being able to consent.

I fully understand what you're saying but with the young lady in the "Ched saga", there's absolutely no indication at all in the video of any kind of reaction/impairment brought on by alcohol which I would have expected even at that earlier stage with the inclusion of 6 inch heels. That puts such A DOUBT in my mind (about her later inability to give consent) that I'm not sure as a juror that I would have found Ched guilty at the first trial. Or were the jurors instructed by the judge to bring in a guilty verdict?

Not interested in getting into the finer points of any specific cases, just giving you an example from my own life. One moment I was fine and having a dance with friends, 30 mins later I was unable to stand, 30 mins after that I'm on my way to the hospital as I had drunk myself to the point of being unresponsive.

You might not think it possible, but from personal experience, it very much is.

Thanks for your responses which I appreciate. Yes, I do fully accept what you're saying about yourself in your personal anecdote. All I'm saying is that in the circumstances in the Ched saga, I do have reasonable doubts about the young lady's ability to give/not give consent. It's tempting to say that only the three major participants really/clearly know what happened that night but as they'd all consumed a fair amount of booze, that might be a bit optimistic. Let's face it, if the case had involved "nobodies" rather than professional footballers, would the police have been as zealous in pursuing the case? If I remember rightly, it all kicked off because a handbag was "lost", possibly stolen...

That's not how it works.

The year is 2345. Billy Sharp is United's leading scorer for their 322nd season in the Weyland Yutani Championship and Blades are gathering by teleporter on Rigel VII to discuss the Ched Evans verdict...
