Whispers on Numerous websites (skysports etc.) reckon that Monty is fit again, and will more than likely play at the weekend, but who would you all drop? Doyle has stepped up, but McDonald brings more of a Physical presence to the midfield. Also, Collins went off on Saturday with a head injury, though nothing has been reported, which would most likely mean that he's fit to play, but if he wasn't, Parrino or LJF at centre back next to Harry?

If Collins isn't fit, Lecs will no doubt be the one to get the nod.

I have a suspision that it'll be Monty in for K-Mac if he's fit to play. DW seems to prefer the added solidity of the Monty/Doyle combo away from home, and by and large it's worked for him.

Doyle hasn't stepped up to anything. He was awful against Huddersfield and even worse against Colchester. He deserves to be dropped. Monty will play if fit, alongside MacDonald.

Williamson was good out wide against Colchester, good enough to get another start, although it's hit and miss with him at the moment.

Doyle awful against Colchester? Didn't look like that to me - thought he and McDonald both did well in the middle.

Maybe a place on the bench for Monty would the best option for Saturday - but bring him on at some stage.

He is positionally too far advanced up the pitch for someone who is supposedly a defensive midfielder. He should be sitting in front of our back four. He never closed down their players on throw ins. He doesn't pick people up! He was second to most balls and provided their best chance by falling over when no-one was near him and presenting them with a one on one which Simmo did well to save.

Would like to see the same team that started v Colchester last week start this one. However if Monty is fit I agree with LoughboroBlade and can see him coming in for McDonald to partner Doyle.

Doyle was good against Colchester (team of the week for Sky), but I'd still drop him for Monty if the latter is fit.

Monty and McDonald will have really good balance in the long term IMO.

I'm glad you made the point Secret Chief about the team not protecting the back four enough and Doyle being too far upfield. I thought this was a problem against both Hudds and Colchester. Against Scunthorpe we were taken apart in the first half and again I thought it was mainly due tp losing the midfield battle. I would replace Doyle with Monty. Having said all that I think Doyle has improverd from last year.

Do agree with this. been saying since the Scunny game that we are allowing to many chances, and we need protection in front off the back 4. Monty is the best player to provide this, and I would pair him with Macdonald in the centre of Midfield. Doyle has played better this season, but not the right man to protect the back 4.

This is what I would go for. I like the creativity of McDonald. Plus Monty is probably struggling for match fitness. I understand he is captain, but does he not have to fight to get back into the team?

Me too. As with Oldham, Tranmere and Yeovil I think he might go to keep it tight. Presumably we would have enough with Williamson and Quinn to create something.

Me too. I would like to see the same team. However Wilson has got it tactically spot on so far and hence I would not complain too much if he changed things.

Must have watched a different game to me then. I thought Doyle played well (even made the league 1 team of the week) and was disappointed with Williamson

Different rules apply to The Maestro. He simply has to play at all costs. His brand of mediocrity is hard to replicate.

Having not been that impressed with Macdonald initially, I thought that he was excellent when he came on against Huddersfield and continued that against Colchester. I have to say that I was surprised that Doyle received such positive feedback against Colchester, I didn't think that he played that well, so he would have to be the one to drop to the bench if Monty is genuinely fit.

Are you getting lonely Pinchy? other than the board idiots, the other Monty haters seem to have deserted you? A nice pint of Moonshine should ease the pain :-)

I never get lonely whilst you're around, mate.

Joking aside, should anyone (Pele and TC excluded) expect to automatically reclaim a place when the team has just won 3-0 and played well?

I'm truly astonished that anyone would contemplate leaving out the quality that is K-Mac. I can only conclude that such persons must  .....

my opinion on this is if its not broke dont fix it, we played well against (admittedly not a good side) colchester but more or less the same team were out muscled by huddersfield.
im in agreement with the start same team with monty on the bench then if back four is not getting enough protection or midfield is getting bullied ala huddersfield then bring monty on for either of the central midfielders.
monty might be mediocre but hes at least consistant :)

There aren't many players that we have signed / played 3 times. Where are you Darren?!!!

Did I miss the second coming of BT already?

Deano = legend = yes
Deano signed 3 times = yes

Not sure about hubcaps though.

You are, of course, correct! I'd be loathe to break up this current midfield and we've managed (Huddersfield aside) quite well minus Sir Nick :-)
MacDonald gives us something we haven't had for quite a while and now i've (hopefully?) got your attention for a minute and knowing you are of my era agewise, does Kevin MacDonald remind you of Keith Eddy in many ways? Elegant on the ball, big in stature but not appearing robust, sees and executes subtle passes and has a certain presence?
I may have missed it but I've not seen anyone make the comparison as yet.

No. It's that simple.

This agreeing with Pinchy is a bit grating, but he's right. If the team is playing well then any players coming back into the squad should be sat on the bench. Sure, there are the odd circumstances to change maybe one or two players round, but Wilson has said he'd rather the opposition worried about what we're going to do than us be worried about them. If the team is playing well then what is the point in messing with the side?

Monty or anyone else will just have to wait until an opportunity presents itself. And if he spends the next few matches on the bench then good. No changes to the side means that we're winning. I'd happily leave almost anyone on the bench if it meant not changing a winning team. Even Monty.

I'd start with Doyle & McDonald in the middle. They have been doing well together so why change it? If one of them has a poor game Saturday, then get Monty or whoever in the side.

Convicing argument and I'd go with that. I probably should be getting worried that I am agreeing with SV more and more, but the emergence that he is a closet real ale drinker has given me some reassurance ;)

A proper man's drink is strong tea. Everything else is just frippery. Coffee is for Americans, women and homosexualists

Real ale is really just very runny bread.:D
