Newcastle and Berge

Cash only please. Let Hecky spend what % he gets on players he actually want/needs, not ones he has to shoehorn in because we’ve already used it on Newcastles bin fodder who probably won’t even want to be here anyway.

The problem is he contributed to that very good team becoming a 'demoralised poor 'team.
I accept that, but it was all pretty new to him. He wasn't helped by some around him.

What about the bit in the video when he was signed, CW telling him he had gone to Europe ( forgotten where) to watch him before he signed?
This. Wilder said he’d been to see him play for Norway and that Knill had been to a few games watching him.

Interesting story I heard about Wilder & Berge was that Berge was signed by the club not Wilder. Because of our Belgian connections through Winkel we were able to sign him. The club felt we were getting him for a steal as he was highly sought after by big clubs…..so all this said why would we sell him for less than we bought him for if profit was always in mind?

Maybe a loan swap deal could work for both teams? If Berge is desperate to leave that is, if not then we just have to accept it was another bad investment by the board.
Pretty sure wilder was keen on signing berge.

Coulibaly was signed without any knowledge at all to wilder and that was the straw that broke the camel's back as he'd been in dialogue about other matters and signings but signed a player without any discussion to the manager.

The odds on either St Max or Wilson finishing or playing the remaining games in the season once they are back must be pretty short, both are injury prone, its not like they are now short of money, problem is Trippier is supposed to be signing, add in another 2 strikers for cover, a Left Back couple of midfielders, might well on paper improve the team, but time is running out 6 new starters in the first team?

Like anyone else that wears the shirt, I want Berge to be successful, I get the demoralised team, relegated without as much as a whimper, and his and the teams injuries, to be honest all of that pales into insignificance, when there is still a debate regards his best position, sorry but like a lot of things CW said, like round pegs-round holes etc saying it and doing it were two different things, Berge didn't fit into Lundstroms role, and he wasn't bought (like Brewster) as one for the future, that would sit in the reserves or on the bench with no pressure, learning the ststem.

Would categorically not take Hendrick we don’t need another 30+ midfielder on the down slope of his career.
When he first went to Newcastle, I thought they had made a smart move, read a lot of comments especially last season from Newcastle fans absolutely slating Hendrick and Shelvey, lazy, not tracking back etc every now and again Shelvey hits a screamer, Hendrick scores the odd goal, then they revert back to levels of effort that can be measured in 'Lundstroms'

Will be an offer we can’t refuse from the big hitters in the Saudi Royal family to our very minor Prince.

Bert was outside St James's Park today.
It's on.

Tell them it’s £30m cash plus Woodman

They have the cash
We don’t need to sell

Sellers market.

Also maybe worth explaining to Berge that there is a possibility we go up they come down

If he goes, it should be to a Everton, Palace or abroad

Not that self entitled perennial losers, I tell ya, I would love it….just love it if they go down, Saudis sell up and they do a Leeds. Love it.

It's never a sellers market when it comes to United selling anybody

Then there's the most backward fanbase on the planet that believe selling regardless of the price is good

You are right, I would have sold Lundstrom for 10p six months before his contract expired.

That’s the impression I get from him as well a player who has made his money took a sideways move late in his career and who is now drifting. He’ll either retire at the end of his current deal or disappear into obscurity down the divisions.

On a personal development pov, Berge is in a difficult position, he's not played for ages and hasn't really shown the form we (and the people who signed him) think he might be capable of.

That being said, Newcastle will need to sign top level championship players, not Mbappe and Messi, even though they're fucking loaded. They will build slowly and progressively and will probably get relegated this season. It'll be a long term project and someone like Berge would be a good speculative signing.

If we could get a decent fee or a decent swap, considering the links between the 2 clubs it could be worthwhile, we don't need to sell, unless we want to invest, I think we have a good hand in this particular situation, we wouldn't necessarily miss him cos he's been out for so lomg and we've found form without him, but if he finds form, we could really benefit from him staying.

Win win.

I think he hit his best form at Burnley, and Dyche is a good judge re character, form and man management, safe to say Burnley didn't miss Hendrick when he left

Why palace or Everton? Why not Brighton or leeds ??
I think some of our lot live in cuckoo land
No one wanted him in the summer ..why now , hes hardly kicked a ball for 6 months

Just a couple as an example that he should go to a mid table established side, not getting anywhere near top 6, but if risking a relegation threat may as well stay here…

Brighton yes
Leeds-wouldn’t last 20mins at that intensity, if he was ever fit enough following training

It's simple really mate , if he was worth 22 mill when we signed him ....
Hes worth a lot less now because hes injury prone and proved naff all ....why would he be worth more ???
No ones paying half what we paid
Excellent news.

We'll keep him then

I'm very worried that if Newcastle's owners really want Berge, our owner will be told what we're getting in return, which I suspect will be not much. The Premier League's sanctioning of Newcastle's takeover by the Saudi state was a disgrace - it would be just our luck if us losing Berge for peanuts was the first manifestation of that corruption.
Absolutely. If they get relegated I will ”love it”, but assuming we are in the same division I can’t see any way it would be tolerated for us to compete against them, never mind risk getting promoted ahead of them. This is a country that locked many minor royals in a hotel, so even if there is not an explicit directive, our Prince is not going to risk upsetting the main man given his history. Can you imagine if we get promoted and they get relegated?

I do wonder if that was behind the rather cryptic statements at that press conference about “not seeing much of us in the future”.

I do hope the football authorities are watching this, but I suspect they aren’t and won’t care anyway.

Of course he did because the club were signing him. Wilder was happy because he also thought we were signing a great player after watching him but wanted a box to box midfielder too. Is he a Wilder signing? Absolutely not

I’m happy for people to think the story is BS most people do when you put something on here but this story is from someone linked to Wilder. I feel comfortable sharing it because Wilders gone but I won’t go naming names. Maybe Wilder is talking BS which would probably be more likely as he absolutely despises our owners and clearly doesn’t take any blame for what happened to us in the end

Time for United to hold one of the richest clubs on earth to ransom. If they really want him, make ‘em pay big. If the Ramsdale sale is anything to go by, we shouldn’t be selling our biggest assets for peanuts anymore… unless he has a reasonable release clause then we’re fucked.

If the club were intent on signing Berge over and above CW & AK's wishes and advice, then trips abroad to watch him play were absolutely pointless, as for the info coming from someone close to CW, it means nothing, I am old enough and been around long enough to take everything I am told with a pinch of salt, and that includes if CW had told me the same thing.
I like loads of others will be forever grateful for MOST of what CW & AK did and achieved BUT everything has to be viewed in balance the idea that CW and the team were genius operators in the transfer market, with an unblemished record is wrong, for every Jake Wright there is a Marvin Johnson, for every Didsy there is a Chris Hussey, unless of course it was the club not CW that signed Johnson and Hussey?

I think we probably do need to sell, we have already spunked enough money on players we cant get rid of and if we do are going to make a big loss on. So a half decent bid from Newcastle will probably be accepted
especially if we want to invest in other areas of the team, we may if we are lucky get 50% of the fee to re-invest
Theres also the wages he will be on to be considered

If we are only getting 50% back I would rather keep him tbh.

If, and that’s a big if, we can get him fit, and Hecky can build a system that’s suited to his strengths he is one of the best players in the division

CW didn’t want him and Slav didn’t know what to do with him

Hecky seems to be a bit sensible- play the right players in their best position etc

Trips weren’t necessarily pointless. They went to watch a player that they knew they were signing for record breaking money for the club. I’m sure we’d all do the same in their position.

You’re right though CW will take credit for the ones that went well and probably distances himself from the ones that didn’t

Sadly probably closer to the truth than we'd like to imagine. It's all wild speculation obviously but it surely can't be coincidence that their owners came in and ours dissipated into the shadows.
