I think the photo was some ten years prior to the Mass Trespass across the Peak District, so they would have been given some sort of permission to be there as some in the trespass got prison sentences for doing less

Admit had to look it up, been many years since I was there or even passed it, but Toads Mouth is at the side of the road. My memory told me it was fairly close, so no permission needed.
The Mass Trespass was 1932, Kinder Scout, again memory told me it was just post war, win some lose some.
I and a school mate used that right form1954-58 almost every Sunday then to a lesser degree to1960 and were and still are grateful for what they achieved. Having looked on GM's and comparing with Chingo's image, it's interesting to see the amount of weathering to TM over the ninety six intervening years. Technical incompetence prohibits me posting, for comparison.
