Not been around for a while but definitely in the ether tonight.
Expensive players passing around aimlessly for 90 minutes, no drive, no idea past the halfway line.
Fleck looked lost and like he's now run his race for us and we have a large number of ineffectual strikers, one of whom will cost us £30m over the course of his contract with no likelihood of any meaningful return.
Maybe all the cliches about being undercooked and taking time for a new system to bed in will prove correct.
But for a first performance under a new manager, presumably with players wanting to impress, that was desperate.
A few weeks like that and if Wilder's still not got a job....

Are you on drugs? Wilder created this shite. These are his players. They are not good enough.

Slavs not signed one player to be fair, the thing you’re moaning about is what Wilder signed
Exactly

we’ve given him one centre half to work with.

we’ve given him no creativity to play the style of play he wants to play.

If we are expecting him to go up with that squad this is going to be a long and disappointing season. Hopefully this wakes the board to to freshen the squad up.

I reserve blaming the board as they’ve got 2/3 more weeks to sign players. But the fact we’ve not replaced JOC still a year after his injury is absolutely shocking. We’ve lost Jagielka & Bryan at the moment we’re literally relying on Robinson/ Bash/ Egan playing every single game because we have no alternative. Shocking

We were playing Birmingham, a workaday Championship side.
I can't see Basham not playing tonight under Wilder and by god didn't we miss his energy and drive.
I also can't see us playing with no discernible pattern under Wilder. For me it was crying out for overloads down the flanks tonight but instead we were doing something else, though no idea what that actually was.
The criticism of Wilder for signing some of the players is fair enough but I'm not convinced we'd get a similar performance that lacked any real heart under Wilder - especially given the atmosphere at the start.

Most of the players have done well in the Championship previously and in the Prem for a chunk of the time.

in a completely different style of play.

no one has played well for 18months and we’ve no confidence after losing 30 games last year.

madness not to freshen things up, madness not to have a proper preseason, madness to have one CB competent to play in a 2 if that’s the formation we want to play.

Everything about the side feels half baked at the moment

The manager said he was happy with the squad. Let's not go down the road of all these players somehow not being any good any more.
Agree it does seem half-baked. But it's majorly worrying that so many players lacked drive and energy on the pitch when they're playing their first game under a new manager.

In fairness - what else can he say about the players. He can’t say they aren’t up to it publicly.

I assume the lack of drive and energy is cos we’ve had a half arsed preseason. We can’t afford to rest players in the cup - that needs to be a full strength side, try and play our way into some Semblance of form

How many of those players aren’t good enough? Past performances don’t suggest many.

This is Wilders shite!

Anyone blaming Jokanovic after one game is a fucking fruit loop. This is all on Wilder. He’s hamstrung us with some proper shite.
As I have said elsewhere, one thing that does give me concern is that Jokanovic started Burke. Anyone who had done his homework would know that was going to be a bad move.

But yes, the bigger problem is the players. This isn’t a top 6 squad, yet alone top 2.

I think it was more the desire for some pace and to be honest a distinct lack of match fit options. But one thing we can certainly agree on is that he should be as far away from Bramall Lane as physically possible

These players finished 9th in the PL

We have internationals now in our side!

By Tuesday night, we'll have played our final pre-season friendly. Hopefully , we can bring on a couple of signings and really start the season

We all stated last season that the midfield wasn’t good enough so it’s not going to miraculously get better specially when our new manager plays a more attack based football, it is a wake up call for us that we’re not going to walk this division it’s going to be bloody hard work.

I agree with the overall view, but I will reserve judgement on the strikers until they are provided with chances.

So jokanovic didn't do his homework ?
Which in actuality is his day job his actual job
You're saying he didn't bother to do the most basic of requirements and try and find out which is his strongest eleven ?

I think we should stop getting our knickers in a twist after one game. We've had a disrupted pre season and it might take a few weeks for tactics to gel. Remember Wilders first 3 games?

That’s my perception.

He played a formation that suited our fifth or sixth best striker but didn’t suit our best.

He also shoehorned two worse players than Basham into the back four.

not impressed.

So you don't think he's bothered to evaluate players strengths or weaknesses?

Every bloody year we have a disrupted pre season. There’s always an excuse.

we have Covid
Friendlies rained off
Have play offs
Have to sell before we can buy
New manager
Waiting for PL loans

there’s always some excuse. We need to stop whinging about this stuff and man up. Yes it’s only one game but that wasn’t good enough.
