I wonder what value was put on him when he was at Preston with a bit more contract left? Realistically he’s gone to Liverpool and not played and been injured the only reason his value has increased is because his wages have increased and he’s worth more but from a footballing perspective he’s still the same player he was at Preston, based on playing zero games at Liverpool how much would we have paid (in decent length contract) when at Preston?

Is this the player that rejected United as we wouldnt pay him enough in wages ?
Liverpool may have ruined his career but not his bank balance

If its true that he is on silly money and Liverpool want a big fee for him, why are we still messing about? The Prince claimed that one of the problems with Wilder was that he didn't give them options when looking for players and he wanted 2/3 targets. Seems to me nothing has changed.
That first word is the all important one there.

Davies would not sign for us last year as our wage structure when relegated would have been v similar to what he was on at Preston.
If Liverpool insist on selling him we are not in the ball park and should move on.

Let's be fair on Liverpool, they've not ruined his career. The player made his decision to chase a payday at Liverpool.

Everyone, even Davies, knew he wasnt good enough, that it was an odd signing and he was never anything other than cheap insurance.

The fact he's not been good enough to ever play is no fault of Liverpool.

He wasn't forced to sign at gun point, he took a short term financially motived decision and probably earned more in the last year than previous 10 years of his career. Don't hold that against him, it's just facts.

He'll end up back in the Championship either this window or the summer, on a much smaller wage than he's on now - but more than he was at Preston.

Or he sits out his contract at Liverpool, takes home his wages and wastes the peak years of his career.

Didbt he say he wasn't interested when we were after him last time?

Let him rot in the stiffs and keep collecting his huge wages.

Move on and quickly to more targets or we have learned nothing from last season.

To be honest though, who would be interested in signing for bottom-of-the-league Sheffield United when Liverpool are also interested? 🤷‍♂️

His cost for a year's loan if we paid all his wages would be 3 million, a snip if he contributes to us going straight back up , but not worth the unrest it would cause in the rest of the squad about pay

The other day,Liverpool were reported as saying there is no loan option,it's buy or nothing, today it's supposedly a loan, but without an option to buy.

Not sure what thread it was, but I said yesterday I think The Prince rolls the dice with this one and puts up the £5m, excepting the risk. He’ll get no credit for it, but it would be a bold move if we also secure our loan targets.

They won't allow him out on a loan to buy as they'll recoup his wages/fee via loan payments.

It probably doesn't make sense to them to agree a loan-to-buy now. Better to let him go out to a good side, play regular football & then re-evaluate his value at the end of that spell. Right now his value won't be optimum as the £500k - £1.6m valuation lingers in people's minds (the region of what Liverpool paid in January)
& he hasn't played any football for 7 months.

Yep if he plays well for either of us, Bournemouth or Celtic you could add another 5-7 million on to his price tag so in Liverpool terms another 10 minimum.

Yep although money seems to be right across the board this summer outside of the elite clubs

If we want Davies on anything more than a loan then it basically rules out JOC as having a future at the club.

Clearly the last season hasn't taught Robbie of the need for having quality competition for places.

Davies. Didn’t even have to think about it

Not hard is it :)

Whichever one isn't as good as the other one.

You lot are drunk. Why would Ben Davies, the guy who didn't want to sign for us last season because we wouldn't pay him enough, leave Liverpool to sit on our bench.

Why would we, a Championship club, pay £5 million for a player who will eventually sit on a bench.

He didn’t sign for us because we wouldn’t pay £10 Million for him.
