I still think it will be Robins. I wouldn't be too upset at the appointment, he kept Barnsley up last season and had Rotherham on the brink of promotion. There are a lot worse candidates out there. I just wish that the decision would speed up so we can start planning for next season.
The more I see the youth team, the more I think Pembo if he can instill that kind of play into the first team game. They close down brilliantly, never give in, all of them are good passes (see Maguire's long balls last night for example). So the question then would be who do we get in at the academy to replaced Pemberton?
If it is Wilson, my problem is not with his previous associations to rival clubs. I couldn't give a toss about that personally but my problem is with the fact that he hasn't really pulled up any trees since he managed Barnsley (about 15 years ago) and perhaps even more important at a time like this.....he wouldn't have the support of the fans as a whole. It would take a very brave man to appoint him and I'm not at all convinced it would be a smart move.
The next appointment has to be given time to move the new way of thinking forward. Wilson would not get that time. If he didn't get off to a flying start you would have people in the car park shouting for another sacking. I dont want us to go down that road again. The pressure on an ex-wednesday player/manager would be far greater than on anyone else and this team isnt going to heal itself overnight.
As I said, his associations aren't important to me but I know they will be to a lot of other fans. He would have my support if he did come in but I would fear for him almost immediately.
One could imagine though that dealing with teenagers isn't exactly easy either. I'm sure any teachers or parents on here would second that view. Besides, when would you ever be ready to prove yourself if you were not given the chance. Experience has to start somewhere. It's alright getting him to change the way the first team play, but dealing with players who are established professionals and dealing with youngsters are 2 totally different skills. As well as the fact Pembo has no experience of dealing with transfers, pesky agents, etc.
As good as Pembo clearly is, I don't think he's the right man to be our first team manager.
Bang on the money that SCB.

Maybe Bassett could be kept on in a Director of Football role to aid transfers etc. if Pemberton was to get the job.

Bassett's experience and know-how didn't help Micky much. I really can't see what he would offer tbh, yes he's been there and done it but that was 20 plus years ago and part of our problem is that we haven't moved on.
I am talking aout Bassett helping Pemberton with his in's and out's. Micky's failure was down to Micky
Given that Bassett was brought in to help Micky, how does Bassett escape criticism ? What makes you think Bassett would add valuable advice on transfers ?
People are saying the likes of Reid and Wilson's successes are too far in the past yet think Bassett can add something, all a bit strange to me.

Danny Wilson does seem likely now. He's odds on with the bookmakers and clear favourite at the moment. I realise it is dictated by betting patters but most Blades are in disbelief at the prospect so I cant imagine people would be betting on this unless they knew or had heard something.
Was he spotted at Old Trafford last night at all? I'm wondering if that might have sparked a flurry of bets!
