I suppose it'll be 'The Blades Way'. Generate incredible goodwill with the Youth Team, build the fans' hopes up by mentioning RdM (and remember, it was McCable who mentioned him first in his interview on RS), and then get a bog-standard, uninspiring bloke such as Reid, Robins or, God help us, Wilson.

Whoever it is, surely Pembo should have a big say being as though he is bringing the future of the club through

You can bring an experienced number two for transfers etc; birch is still at the club I am guessing till the end of August as is Bassett. He was also a player who had numerous transfers himself so he is not totally wet behind the ears

I don't rate Paul Hart at all as a manager but he ticks a lot of the boxes required to be an ideal number two for Pemberton.
He won TWO Youth Cups with Leeds, the U19 league with Forest and integrated loads of young players into the First Team at Forest and then again at Palace.
He has very recent experience of the division we'll be playing in next season and he's worked extensively with Pembo before.
Basically, he has all the assets that we need and fills all the gaps in Pemberton's CV.
If we're really intent on going down the route of an experienced "merry-go-round" manager (Wilson, Reid), I'd rather we have one in a supporting role.

My concern with the recruitment process is the amount of influence that any new manager perceives Pembo to have with 1st team affairs.

All the signs point to the 1st team having to adapt to the way the Youth Team plays and people's opinions seem to suggest letting Pembo have a say in who gets the job, what players will be used from the Youth Team etc.

How many Managers will be happy to work under those conditions? All will have their own philosophies on style of play, tactics and the type of player they want to recruit. It could be seen by some as the tail wagging the dog if they're basically doing what they're told by the Youth Team Manager (directly or indirectly). Also, if McCabe is saying to them you have to play the same way as the Youth Team and use x number of Youth Team players, then I suspect a number of potential candidates could walk away anyway. We're then left to chose from the ones who are desperate to just get a job.

If we are placing so much emphasis on Pembo being a big part of the new culture at the club, then just give him the job, otherwise internal politics could see the managerial merry-go-round continuing ad nauseum.

I'm starting to loose patience now I have to admit. Its been about two weeks and the youth cup final has passed. Its about time they announced the new manager now. If they dont know who they want by now then that's a worry. Really the decision should have been made by now pending an announcement this morning. Two weeks should have been ample time to interview suitable candidates and come to a decision.

If it is Robins, maybe we are waiting on Barnsley getting a new manager. Afterall Robins is on gardening leave and getting him before might cost us ££££

Maybe Robins is in and doing it all behind the scenes. He has been at both youth games. The Wilson smokescreen might be to keep Barnsley from the door

The appointment of one of Pembo, Hill, RDM or Tisdale would not split the fanbase too much. Anyone else on that list I think would to some degree or other. That said if I had to guess I think it will be Robins.

I tend to think that Robins would get a better reaction than Hill or Tisdale. Simply because he wouldn't be seen as a 'lower league manager'.

I'd be happy with any of the 5.

Thats a good theory.

I must admit its seeming less and less likely to be Pemberton more is the pity. If he is going to get it then surely today has to be the day.

Was just judging it on the sites Iv visited. There seems to be a general underwhelment (is that a word !) at the prospect of Robins, though his stock is certainly rising at the thought of Wilson being in charge !!

It is a bit strange that Robins doesnt elicit more enthusiasm (including from myself), he did a great job in almost impossible circumstances at Rotherham and he certainly hasnt failed at Barnsley.

I thought he was tactically astute during the recent match at the Lane and easily out-thought Micky, not that that in itself is much of an achievement.

The main criticism seem to be that he's a bit of a knob...... a criticism that could probably be applied to most top managers, Fergie and Mourinho included, rumour has it that Brian Clough had his moments :)

Someone said that it would be hard for an ex wendy Player/manager to take over when talking about Wilson.

BUT

Didnt Robins play for them as well?

Of the two I would rather have Robins.

He did indeed (on loan), well remembered. I recall talk on RS at the time that Dave Allen supposedly funded his wages. Having said that, his Wednesday connections are not nearly as strong as Wilson's.

Either way I couldn't give a toss. He's just not my choice for other more relevant reasons. I'm not convinced by Robins either.

No not really but he did play for them.

McCabes going to shock us all and give us who we want. Just you wait and see.....

Sorry sleep typing again

Couldn't give a flying one about Wilson's Wednesday connections. It's more the fact that he's been shit for the last few seasons.

Please Robins over Wilson. I can think of very few managers I'd want less than Wilson.

To be fair he took them to within a hair's breath of promotion. They lost on automatic on the last day to Leeds and then were unlucky to not to beat Milwall in the final. That was not shit. During the summer his board sold the best players and completely dismantled the team. As a result he was struggling, realised that he had taken them as far as he could and then left. Sure he didn't get them promoted (I am guessing your reply will be 'nearly is not enough' or just some perfetic jibe that shows you have lost the point) but that was hardly shit.

Why? Recent experience in the division. Promotions on his CV. Plays the right way. Speaks well.

If it's the Wendy connection, that was a long time ago. And truth be told I doubt we can find many better qualified or suited.

I haven't closely followed his career but he seems to have fallen away after promotions quite some years ago. If we're going to appoint ex Wendy managers they need to have impressive CV's. He would be under immediate pressure at the first sign of poor results - and I don't think they'll be far away next season. I don't think he'd see a season out.

Lets be honest no ex-wednesday managers who are available have decent records, if they did, the pigs wouldn't be where they are would they! :)

Fair point. But I think it's a shame.

Ideally we need a cheap, young, clever, charismatic manager with a footballing pedigree. But I can't name one.

Im available. Got Luton promoted as champions on football manager in my first season. Does that count??? :)

So, the Star claims it's between Robins, Wilson and Reid.

Sorry, but it's a VERY easy choice if it's out of those three.

Are you talking about Wilson there or Blackwell ;)
