Why is it being reported they have bid then ?
Surely papers making up stories to generate traffic isn’t a new concept to you?
I’m sure they may be interested but do you honestly think they’d tell everyone what they’d bid or that it had been turned down?
According to the same source, Arsenal are trying to buy Sterling and Mahrez, and last summer Chelsea and Tottenham were offering Henderson £160k/week and Man Utd were buying Jan Oblak as a replacement. They have to have something to fill the paper with something over the summer till the Euros start.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I somehow suspect this news maybe leaked from ourside to start a bidding war. They didnt outbid us when they had a chance a year ago, they won't bid 13 million now. He was that close to signing Gala even released a video interview.

IMO
Firstly, from the 'limited' highlights I've seen of 2 fairly average leagues he's played in, he currently wouldn't be good enough for the championship. So loaning to Gala would give him competition and potential improvement in a better league.

Second, it would give us available money to buy a championship(or a big chunk) standard midfielder for next season.

Third, if he did become good enough in two years, then we get back a better player or £35M to 40M.

Then the best move would be to bring him over this summer. We currently don’t have a box to box midfielder at all, and we need at least one for most formations. We’d be looking to bring in a loan who’d probably cost a similar amount and if he’s already interesting clubs that will only increase with a year in the Championship as PL teams will also take more notice.
It’s seems no lose to bring him over, accept for your team of course.
Agree. Let's get him over for a good preseason at least and then reassess from there.

I think you underestimate the Belgian first division compared to the championship. What I have seen from the championship, apart from Norwich, is mid table Belgian first division at best and no way near the standard of the top teams in our league. Always difficult to compare leagues, different style, tactics etc.

There’s a significant amount of arrogance and ignorance in your post. The top teams in Belgium would walk the Championship with a huge cigar on and outside 3-4 teams the standard in the Championship currently is incredibly poor.

How would you know he isn't good enough? Kante came from a poor league look how that turned out

Pot and kettle. Your message was equally ignorant and arrogant. I will agree to disagree.

I think Flatulent_Bob was agreeing with you buddy...
My apologies then, I must have misunderstood. It’s not my first language. Sorry for that Bob. I am a weirdo that has a soft spot for the championship. I made all championship teams of Sheffield’s promotion year in Subbuteo and every weekend try to watch a championship game because I prefer those teams above the big PL teams like Man U, Liverpool, etc. That’s why I think I can compare the level with our level here but with the nuance that it’s always hard to compare different leagues. 🤭

Not a problem just a surprise that you savaged me 😂.
My point was that the top Belgian team would walk the championship. I think they would. In fact the top 2-3 would easily make the playoffs.
Once you get below the top 4-5 in the championship the standard really falls away so the assumption that the top Belgian league is vastly inferior is just not true. Especially when the superior comparison given by him was the Turkish league. Genk schooled Besiktas only a couple of seasons ago in the Europa League.
The Belgian league has limitations with its depth when ti comes to quality but so does the championship at the minute, mainly due to Covid, which has limited spending power.
For me, if a player becomes a top talent from the Belgian league they are more than capable of coming to a team in the Championship.

I think Anderlecht and Brugge would even be ok in the premier league tbh. Not exactly like they get thrashed in Europe and pick up wins against the big boys on a semi regular basis

The top team(s) (Brugge) would probably walk the league but 1 or 2 decent sides doesn't make a good league, look at Scotland. And I hardly think I was showing arrogance by saying from what I have seen of him he currently isn't good enough. And haven't you just done the same arrogance of saying the championship is incredibly poor. I was merely saying IMO as a whole the Belgian league is an average european league. French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Italian, Turkish, Portugese, Polish, English, Greek are all probably of a higher standard when all teams are taken into account. And on current 20/21 season european coefficients Belgium league ranks 14th below the leagues of Scotland, Israel, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Norway. So I hardly think saying it was an average league was being arrogant.
And no where did I say I thought the championship was better than the Belgium league.

Truly the single most outrageous transfer story I've seen in a long time. There is absolutely zero chance we're getting together 12.9 million pounds, and definitely not for Coulibaly (would be for Gedson Fernandes).

Not to mention Coulibaly was actually a done deal to us in January, he literally got interviewed on Norwegian TV and said he couldn't wait to join. We don't know what happened at this point but the club just doubled his price at the last second, which was impossible for us to match because of the bullshit FFP penalty, then Sheff Utd swooped in and got him immediately. There were some rumors of Fenerbahce having some contacts that jacked up the price at the last second because we were dealing with extremely limited funds.

Apparently he had a good year on loan in Belgium and Milan was in for him and they turned Milan down. There's absolutely zero chance we lash out that money.”

Is that a direct quote from London road

Personally I’d fuck off Fleck and Norwood after this season as they’ve shown they can’t play at the level we aspire to. However there has to be some pragmatism and both are decent Championship players and Norwood fits perfectly into most SJ systems.
Fleck did OK last season.

We are crying out for midfielders. If we are playing a 3, we need probably 6 for those postions. We currently have 2. That means we need to sign 4. They’re gonna either be frees/loans or cost £5 million each minimum to get what we want. We have a young, exciting box to box midfielder which is being bid on by top European teams like AC and Gala for top money. It’s an absolute no brainer to bring him in for a look. It’ll save us buying a different version of him and if work permit allows, he could prove to be our best midfielder based on how he’s doing in Belgium. Worst case scenario he is 5th choice and will still get games and learn from fleck, Norwood, Freeman etc and we can turn him into what we want. He seems like a bit of a maverick, a spark that we need. That’s why we bought him, we might aswell have a look. Don’t really understand the argument here? Where’s the downside?

Are you sure FB? With Lundstram gone and Berge as good as gone, that would leave zero first team midfielders at the club (not counting Osborn, who I see more as a LB /LWB).

I could see next season's central midfielders comprise Norwood, Fleck, Swift + Another + Brunt with a new attacking midfielder + Ndiaye. All in all, not a huge amount of change at not huge cost

Have you got a link to this mate?

As I said, pragmatism would stop me but for me we need an entire new midfield building this season moving away from Norwood, Fleck, Lunny. We don’t want to be going up and needing to buy 11 or 12 new players so you have to target somewhere to start and given how Slav plays through the midfield it would seem to be the obvious starting point.

I don't see any scenario where selling him for 12.9m makes sense if we are backing our own people's judgment.

We turned down 10m for him in the past year and he's clearly continued his upward trend.

As has been stated, he's not long back outplayed someone who is off for 25m.

If we have a spine now, which judging by the managerial appointment, we do, then you see this through.

His value will likely increase with more game time. He's already on the cusp of the National team too.

He either ends up with us, or he ends up moving to someone better than us for twice the fee Galatasaray are being attributed as bidding.

No point blinking on this one. We have a plan with him. It's on track. Leave it.

But when the big clubs come knocking.....

Exactly, when you saw Kante yesterday, this guy has the same potential. Work in progress but stick to the plan of developing him in a top PL player or sell him for at least 25mio. If they keep him only question is what is best for his development: 1 season extra in Belgium or 1 season in the championship.
