I like Wagner but he'd probably want to bring his entire backroom team with him, y'know, his missus, Max, the dog etc...

But hey, he can play the trumpet, compete in Nascar, fly an airliner, ski to olympic standard AND solve murders, so who's to say that he can't get us straight back up?
I'd avoid a boat trip with him though................

I am not sure that people were listening when it was made abundantly clear that PH was in charge until the end of the season. So on that basis, what is the point of announcing anything before the end of the season?

Yes but that ended yesterday, so where's the announcement. I demand an announcement!!!

Theory: the board have planned on appointing Hecky all along and have been putting names like Jokanović to the media to make it look like they have tried their best to bring a more popular choice in. Hecky will now receive a phone call in the next few says telling him he's got the job.

Don't you think its a bit strange that the local journos that cover our games heard and reported on our move for Jokanović at the same time straight after the game vs Crystal Palace? Presumably someone at the club told them in the press room. But why would the club want that information out there? I would have thought they would have kept it confidential so that other clubs who may be potential suitors for him wouldn't be immediately aware of our interest.

I hope the majority of that is completely untrue.

Our local journalists talk to each other and I very much doubt that they have an official ( or for that matter unofficial) inside line with the club. They will have heard the same whisper that some on here sometimes get, but. It’s want to make it look as though they in the know

So you mean, "we tried for a few but none available to improve so we go with what we have"........stock answer for the last upteen transfer windows.....wearing a bit thin now.

  • It was in The Sun in March.
  • Local journos have cried like babies to that the club don’t talk to them.
  • Same journos then reported it was Hecky, then Slav, then someone else never Blessin, until it was Blessin and then after Ball_Sup (Phil) mentioned the difficulty in him being allowed to work, they reported that.
  • No one had seriously suggested Hecky until social media lost his shit because the club weren’t a twat to him.

I know the season only ended yesterday, but I thought that had the appointment already been made, the announcement would have been today. Strikes me as a problem has occurred, or, the board haven't even made the selection yet and the more time goes on, I just get this horrible feeling that we will be totally underwhelmed.
I'm just hanging onto the posts by Glyn Hodges who's convinced it's SJ. I'd be happy with that although my preference is Clement.
Typical United, why does it take so long to get things over the line. Just like the Brewster signing, it took forever to have it confirmed.

It’s because whilst we’re not skint as a club we’re not in the “just pay it” set so we haggle over everything like most clubs tbf.

I’ve said previously, if you’re in for a sort after commodity and you’re a smaller club you have to wait as they’re unlikely to come if there is a better option. There’s certainly no chance they’ll come until they believe they’re seen everything which is on offer so they can make a decision. This will happen again throughout the summer with transfers and particularly loans IF we’re after the highly sought after players.

Personally if this is Slav dragging his heels then I’d not be hanging around before moving on. However if the rumour of this week is true is not exactly long to wait.

I reckon it’ll be announced in the next 24 hours and I’m pretty confident it will be Heckingbottom 🤫
No point waiting to announce Hecky.

Thought he’d be jumping at the chance, would be the biggest club he’s managed since Partizan. I don’t know enough about the others (Clement/Blessing) to form an opinion on them but we need a direction ASAP.

edit: aware that first sentence sounds a bit Piggish

You should have used the word massive. 😂

I have concerns over Wagner especially in recruitment terms. You’re right to point out Huddersfield exploited the European market incredibly well but that was director of football Stuart Webber not Wagner. Webber has gone on to have similar success using the same methods at Norwich even recruiting a youth coach from Dortmund in farke like he did with Wagner. I fear in bringing in Wagner we’d be getting the monkey not the organ grinder.
That's a fair point re Webber, my mate who supports Norwich says he's huge to Norwich. But even then, Wagner still has to coach, organise, lead, motivate etc the team and thre's no way if he wasn't good at all of that, that Huddersfield would have gone up and stayed up. Wagner may not be everybody's first choice, but if we end up with Appleton or Steve Cooper, then I'll not be happy with Wagner available, although obviously I have no idea whether he'd be interested, I can't see why he wouldn't though.

Is it possible that our next manager could be someone not even mentioned or is it cast iron that it’s either this bloke or one of the few mentioned?

Webber is everything to Norwich if they don’t adequately replace him when he leaves this summer they will decline. He’ll be a big get for somebody this summer I’ll be interested to see where he goes.

Mate of mine works in the media, and apparently Parker is on Spurs' radar, although not the preferred option by any means.

A couple of Fulham friends have said they'd be envious of us having Slav, and would rather him than Parker, so assuming there's no bad blood still there, if by any chance Parker does go there's every chance of Jokanovic returning.
I think there is plenty of bad blood there from what I've read of his spell there. Jokanovic regularly said he was unhappy at the owner of Fulham Tony Khan who basically was bringing in the majority of the players and then sacked Jokanovic after just 11 games into their PL season, so not so sure either party would want a return. If it's true that Jokanovic is waiting to see what other others may come his way, I'd say thanks, but no thanks anyway. We want someone totally up for managing us, I can't see why we can't recruit a really decent manager in the position as a relegated PL side with parachute payments and a decent Championship squad and young players like Jebbison coming through. We're also the biggest of the relegated clubs nd in my view only Forest and Derby can say their of equal size/potential in the Championship and they're both basket cases right now.

Is he leaving Norwich, can't find that?

Believe he did an interview last summer saying he was staying to see them back up but then was moving on for a new project.
My apologies just checked and he’s said he’s leaving the summer of 2022 so they’ve got him for another year.

Totally understand what drives odds, however, SJ's odds have got shorter from 4/6 to 1/3

Might mean nothing, might mean something - hard to say 🤷🏽‍♂️

I like Clement, forgot him to be honest. I'd definetely take him over many of the names mentioned. Still think Wagner's a cracking shout though. On Wagner, getting Huddersfield promoted snd keeping them there two seasons in the PL is what puts him above almost all candidates in my view. Yes he failed at Schalke, but he used the foreign market to great effect, created a us against the world dressing room and got Huddersfield promoted with a small budget. He's also very charasmatic and relate well to the fans, I thnk he'd be a great fit after Wilders's spell, for the players especially. I think Jolanovic would also be quality, would be more than happy with that, but he also failed with Fulham in the PL, albeit he didn't have control of the signings and they sacked him after 11 games but they lost to Cariff and someone else down there in that spell, so he's not proven in the PL either.

I think realistically, getting someone to meet the criteria of being "experienced" in taking clubs up from Championship AND "experienced" in the PL is not going to happen. If someone has experience in getting clubs promoted AND experience of keeping clubs in the PL, someone like that is more than likely not out of work/looking for a job. Which makes that unrealistic.

I think the best we can hope for is someone who's experience in Championship, and worry about PL experience when we get there.

They'll be in trouble as you say when he does indeed leave. Their foreign bargain basement approach won't be as easy either of course post Brexit. Not in the Champ, they'll find it easier to recruit in the PL obviously.

Yeah he’s the man with the contacts it’s not a system based approach like say a Brentford it all runs through the little black book of one man. He’s got a good domestic record as well as a foreign one Lewis, Aarons, Godfrey, mumba and adshead are all signings of his. I’ll be interested to see if someone’s willing to give him a step up.

Does he even have a football background?! Maybe it's his scouting network that he's put in place? I think with Van Winckel we have a guy ho clearly knows his stuff as Bielsa's assistant and I look forward to signing some decent foreign talent, hopefully better than previous forays into the Belgium talent pool with Davy Gysbrects and the the one and only Axel Smeets, who I recall missed an open goal v Walsall!?
