Never understood the comparison between them other than they are both Scottish. They're nothing alike as players. As you say Bannan is basically a lesser version of Norwood. He's a decent Championship player and shouldn't be in League One but why would we want another small slow midfielder ?

Is Barry bannan a quality champ player =Yes
Would Barry banan improve our midfield =Yes
Would signing Barry bannan improve promotion chances=Yes
Would it boil piss at swills borough = Yes

No brainier for me
 
Hopefully Andre Brooks can prove to be the long term replacement.

Can you imagine the sheer pace and physicality of a midfield three of Fleck, Norwood, and Bannan? It’s the opposite of the direction we need to be going in.
 
Wind up thread, anyone who watched the comedy of "Goals on Quest" last season (or the one before) and saw the Grubbies inept performances, epitomised by Barry comb over, his wayward kicking was pure comedy gold at times.

OK I’ll give it a go.
Is Barry bannan a quality champ player =No, he’s spent the last two seasons scrapping to stay above 21st place and in the last 4 seasons he’s not managed to finish in the top 10, nevermind the top 6 which is the absolute minimum for us next year.
Would Barry banan improve our midfield =No, Norwood while struggling at PL level is better and has actually been promoted from that league 3 times more. Fleck also has a better record in that league too and we should be looking to improve on both.
Would signing Barry bannan improve promotion chances=No, see above.
Would it boil piss at swills borough = Meh

As you say, no brainer.

He's under contract and will command a fee therefore. He's 31 and not good enough for the Prem, which is where we want to be going. I don't care if it pisses off Wednesday fans to be honest. I think we need to bring in someone a bit younger to rival Norwood for his spot, not someone older than Norwood. Norwood in the Championship should be decent.

Had Bannan being in a free I could see the value in a one or two year contract, but not now, for the fee we'd have to pay for him there's younger players with more developent and Norwood will likely still be first choice if he retains his form from the last time in the Championship. Bannan's not a replacment for Fleck either.

Fleck replacement? Alex Mowatt would be one I’d look to secure on a perm. He’s available on a free to strengthen the squad and he’s better than Bannan.
For most of the starting midfield I’d be looking to loans from the PL for immediate quality and taking a hit on the wage bill. If we’re looking to fill out the midfield squad from the bottom end of the league I’d rather be looking at Bird, Sibley and certainly Bielik from Derby.

No I said I don’t want us to sign Bannan because he’s shite and doesn’t mean the criteria I laid out earlier. He’s been pretty shite for a fair few years now and has delivered nothing in that time. What I just posted was IF we were looking at players from the bottom of this league to fill out the squad those are the ones I’d go for, and they’re all better than Bannan, meet that criteria and have huge growth potential. They’d also be on significantly less wages so would work for filling out our squad. Bannan would be one of top earners without being a first team starter.
Have I mentioned that he’s shite?

PS. I’m guessing you’re ignoring Mowatt, the player I did actually say I’d like. He’s one a free and he’s delivered this season at the top of the Championship.
