You lookin' at me?
So it is Taxidriver!
Nice post. I agree that I think there are comparable styles which suit the players we've got. His centre halves has abilities ours don't currently have, mainly with regards to bringing the ball out and starting moves, although Egan did ping a couple of lovely balls against Everton I think it's a bridge too far for Bash at Championship level.Ok, maybe a little long winded but I've just read up on Watford's tactics during the 14/15 season when Jokanovic was there and found some interesting points. They played three different formations. 4-3-2-1 with strikers playing as inside forwards. 4-3-1-2 with a roaming attacking mid, two box-to-box mids and a defenisively strong defensive mid. 3-5-2 (our current formation) with athletic wing backs. They finished the season with just 2 defeats in 18 games while alternating between 3-5-2 and 4-3-1-2
Slav often changed formation mid-game depending on the way the opposition were finding success on the attacking front. If they started with a 3-5-2 and the opposition were exploiting space behind the wing backs, he would take a CB off for a defensive mid, have the wing backs drop deeper and have the box-to-box mids stretch wider to provide the width.
I think the tactics he deployed at Watford are more suited to our current group of players than the tactics he utilised at Fulham that required wingers (because we have about 100 strikers and no wingers). Watford had a problem that we are going to have. They had too many strikers to play just one up top. So he used his more athletic strikers as inside forwards at Watford rather than as out-&-out wingers. If Mousset is still here come next season and can be arsed - he may be suited to that role. Brewster at a push too. Burke could but I'd hope we have better options than him.
The fact that Slav has already proven that he can be tactically flexible and improvise ways to utilise the many striker options at his disposal - without the necessity of wingers - should be reassuring to the board that we won't need to make drastic changes.
I think an important point to make is that his assistant at Watford and Fulham, Javier Pereira, was hugely important to their success but he is currently in his own job as a manager. I'd hope we can convince him to come here with Slav.
thought the 3421 set up worked well at everton and if we do stick with 3 at the back think that could be the system for us just need at least 2 new midfielders to come in to challenge norwood and fleck for the midfield 2 rolesNice post. JoC would be fine but isn't going to be here for the start of the season, so I think the 3-5-2, 3-4-3 is the most likely starting point with a new midfield.
Ironically given the history and current form, Norwood is the only current midfielder who fits neatly but as we know he isn't good enough at the level we're aspiring to.
Doubt it Jack, sounds like it'll be later in the week, I would guess one of the national papers will find out first, Nixon etc, then the local press on it and finally United announce it!Is it today, Dad?
Frank Lampard's Crystal Palace you meanNeed to get a move on if they want him, there's a vacancy at Palace now, hate to say it but it's a much better job, budgets, players, premier football

Wouldn't surprise me if Big Sam stayed, like most PL managers he is a millionaire, so not exactly worried about paying a mortgage or the gas bill,,but realistically where else is he going?Wilder is going to West Brom.
