I don't want PH but not because I fear player sales - in fact I am desperate for us to cull a lot of players who are either lazy , useless , aging or don't fit our forward plans. And I can't see PH being strong-minded enough to persuade the Prince to do the costly cull & recruit. I want a new manager who will demand the changes necessary to improve the squad. Whatever you think of the Prince , he watches a lot of football and even he must be able to see that Lunny & Moose are taking the piss , McB is a clumsy donkey , Fleck & Norwood can't hit a corner which beats the first man , Brewster's Millions etc etc.
So, as we have the squad you have described, which is essentially all PH has to work with, what chance has he had to be "strong-minded"?

I have a suggestion.

Paul Cook.

He was the one manager I would have been disappointed with had Wednesday picked him up.

He's got teams promotions. He's pretty much always left teams in a better position that when he joined them.

He built a very decent team at Wigan which they asset stripped but which brought in a fair bit of cash.

Plays attacking football to the best of my knowledge.

Not a bad shout, not sure he would get us promoted to the PL though. He would steady the ship though.

I don't think the fans would be against him. Always speaks well and passionately. Not a chequebook manager. Known to be a decent motivator. Doesn't bullshit. Gets on well with the press.

No guarantees with anyone but as I said initially, tends to improve teams and has a good, strong personality a team just relegated would benefit from.

I like Paul Cook, have done so since he caught the eye whilst at Chez Vegas and actually proposed him a while ago. However, he's not exactly pulling up any trees at Ipswich and he'd need to be bought out of a 3 year (I think!) contract. Do you think he'd be worth it?

He has worked previously with Paul Mitch!

For me Howe is the only one who is up there with all the right talent needed to run our club.He held Bournemouth steady in the prem for a few years without spending mega money out on players which is just what we need but I think we once again would not pay the money he would demand.Brentford also seems to be a club able to pull rabbits out of the hat on a regular basis ,what about their management team?

For those less familiar, I did say he improved teams. Selected highlights:

Sligo Rovers - 6th, 4th, 6th (league cup final), 3rd (league cup and FAI Cup winner), 2nd. 46.8% win ratio.

Chesterfield - 8th L2, 1st L2, 6th L1 (lost in POs to promoted PNE). 44.8% win ratio.

Portsmouth - 1st L2. 48.6% win ratio.

Wigan - 1st L1, kept them up, relegated only due to -12 Admin. 41.3% win ratio.

Not made the best of starts at Ipswich but was appointed in March so hasn't had any window to recruit. New owners in too. Maybe could push for mutual consent end of season.

Not been mentioned by the journos locally but I'd be happy with him. I think he's a realistic, affordable target and brings experience of the English leagues too. Rather him than Heckingbottom or Tindall and he's more proven than Blessin.

If Eddie Howe is on the list then his first task (if selected) should be to swap Lys Mousset for David Brooks. I believe that our French international waste of space came in lieu of the remainder of the Brooks transfer fee.

It's maybe worth checking just how much Howe spent whilst at Bournemouth - Ibe, Solanke, Ake, Lerma, Kelly, Billing, Danjuma etc.

Again, probably worth you looking into Brentford's structure and use of moneyball - there's certainly a lot more to it than just a management team.

No sorry there I disagree mate I'd wanted Wilder for ages and when we got him was over the moon.

You may disagree but I'm sure most wouldn't.

When he got the job it was the prime example of the cheap option after various highly paid, for that level, flops and the fact he was a Blade was an added bonus.

He turned out amazing and is my favourite Blades manager of all time but let's not rewrite history and claim we were all ecstatic about a manager that had never managed above League 2.

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper is said to still be on the list of candidates that Sheffield United are considering to replace the departed Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane, with Yorkshire Live confirming that the Welshman is part of a five man list.
Reminds me of someone at a pub who is pissed and laughing for no reason around 11pm

Id be more than happy with Cooper, would get goals out of Brewster having worked well with him previously.

Scrapping around for shitty managers, there’s one with good promotion experience out if this league and he’s available at the end of the season go and bloody get him.

if they appoint Hecky then I’m done.

I've got a feeling we are waiting for the play offs to do decided. I'm surprised Brentfords manager has never mentioned.

He's failed to get the most skilfull team promoted for the last two seasons, will probably make it three. No thanks. Don't want Cooper either, not enough experience, decent budget, PL parachute payments, nothing outstanding there with him for me. Out of the play off teams the Barnsley manager impresses me the most because Barnsley were relegattion candidates before he took over, they've got a small budget unlike Brentford and Swansea, and he's foreign so that must be preferable to the board with foreign markets desired. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we are interested in the Barnsley manager, can't be bothered to look up how to spell his surname though!
