Jags as Manager?

Do we need to be hung up on the word "Manager" though?

Whether we like it or not, a DoF structure is coming in which will render what we once knew and called a "Manager" into effectively a "First Team Head Coach". I imagine this responsibility to be overseeing training, the playing & coaching staff and with most of the budgetary & recruitment burden being taken over by a DoF

I except what you say, but i think most of that structure was already in place under Chris Wilder, the difference going forward will be that the manager might not choose the players he wants! the DoF might well do that, bringing in players to fit the "overarching" playing style of the club running through all the various levels of football, Academy, 23s, first team etc, and that style might be set by the Owners/DoF and the manger has to underpin that style with his coaching/tactics etc, same as Man'U, their style has now reverted to the style of football under Ferg'y with the emphasise on attacking play Ollie Solskaer has to implement embrace that style which he has done, previous managers Mouriniho/Moyes wanted to implement their own style and they paid the price.

Not someone who I'd consider first choice, but;

• Understands the Championship & Premier League
• Experience of European & International football
• Played, Captained & Coached under good managers - Warnock, Moyes, Martinez, Koeman & Wilder.
• Probably has a good 'contact book' in the game to aid recruitment
• Will "get" the club and fan expectations

It's an outfield suggestion, but I'd rather someone like Jags (if willing) get a go over a Lennon, Pardew etc.

I think it’s impossible to tell who’ll make a good manager. Far better to employ someone with a bit of a track record to demonstrate they can be.

No manager worth their salt will want to join us and risk ruining their rep. We're seen as a sinking ship at the moment. And anyone who follows on from one of the most successful managers in our history will be on a hiding to nothing.

Best we can hope for is a lower league manager who's got nothing to lose by stepping up a division. Or a dinausaur like Mark Hughes, god help us. I'd prefer Jags over that any day

Really? You think that negatively of us?

We've got £70m of strikers, the England U21 GK, a defence which dominated the Championship 2 years ago and a fan base that will back any manager that gets us winning.

imo Jags needs a spell as our u23 manager to test his man management, and then maybe a stint in League One/Two as a crash course in tactics, before being in the hat for us

Or spend time as a No 2 to an experienced and solid tactician & man manager like Arteta did with Pep and Terry is doing with Dean Smith...

Had no idea both went straight in as assistants, i thought they mightve held coach positions before... looking at their successes, I’d be keen for Jags as no. 2 if he’s upto the challenge

I think keeping Jags and Billy as part of the setup would a great idea. Get them coaching the U18s or women's teams as they learn as part of a structured coaching group, and then when an opportunity arises with the first team coaching setup, they're ready to step up...

Parachuting them in to the first team coaching group with a blank CV is setting them up to fail.

thats what i said orginally w/ jags as u23 manager, but so long as the manager is experienced enough, i think jags could do it as assistant manager... either way we should be looking at getting both of those mentioned into the coaching setup... both model pros coming to the end of their careers

What sort of manager would leave a team fighting for promotion to the upper tier to join a side about to be relegated to the lower tier??

Oh yeh don't get a rookie manager, get an experienced manager, Kendall, Adkins , Adams so many others did such a great job.
How about jags and Billy with AK as guide and mentor. Because could they really do much worse than what dross we have seen this season?
