I'm just about old enough to remember Wednesday having a decent side in the early to mid-90's, in fact they were comparatively better than us for pretty much that entire decade.

Also, I grew up in Pig-dominated north Sheffield, which meant that those bastards would never waste an opportunity to gloat and rip the piss out of us at every given opportunity. Their fans hadn't yet retreated into the woodwork at that point, so it happened a lot.
Sure, they're all meek and mild now, and they like to say that we're the obsessed ones, but whenever their snouts are even slightly in front of us, they turn the arrogance and smug condescension up to 11, and they are fucking insufferable.

So whenever I feel even a slight objective notion that what's happening to them is bad and shouldn't happen to any football club, I remind myself that if they ever achieve anything that remotely looks like success again, they'll dig out their two-sizes-too-small Sanderson-era replica shirts and act like they never slithered back under their stone for 25 years.

So to summarise, yes I want them relegated and ideally, I'd like them to vanish entirely.

I'd happily see the pigs relegated season upon season until they became semi-pro. Honestly, even if they ceased to exist and we were the only club in the city, I'd lose no sleep whatsoever. I'd like to say they're irrelevant but unfortunately, as long as that eyesore of a dump call Hillsborough Stadium is standing and the club remains operational they'll be nothing more than a shitty skid mark alongside the A61.
 
I have said for a few weeks now that the only thing cushioning the blow of us going down was that they were getting relegated as well. I hate been in the same league as them. I hate the derby games,the nerves in the build up to the games,the will we wont we finish above them for the season.
So YES I want them relegated. & I hope that we get promoted back to the Premier League next season & they never get promoted again.

I am old enough to remember seeing Gerry Young at Wembley fail to trap a ball and Mike Trebilcock run riot.
I know it is as in black and white but those stripes were never for me.

You're right, the Thai millionaire and Saudi multi-millionaire have certainly proven their wealth. One has lead a club into financial ruin and has run out of money. The other has fared better, largely thanks to an outstanding manager, but the murmurs are starting to appear here also about not having the wealth to properly take the club forward properly.

I don't think the city necessarily restricts both from happening either, but it's not happened throughout what has been 'halcyon years' of foreign investors buying up clubs. I really can't see trend continuing as we enter this post-Brexit/post-Covid era, so sadly the ship has sailed.

Ultimately, my point was that with Wednesday out of the picture, if there was some billionaire looking to buy a club in Sheffield, it's better to be the only option available then competing with another club.
 
If the two clubs merged then no doubt both sets of fans would form phoenix clubs and Sheffield F.c would probably get the big investment they’re been chasing over the last few years. Leaving four average supported lower league clubs.

Regards Wendy, personally: I’d like to see them relegated without winning any more games. Then put under a transfer embargo and points deduction because of their late accounts. Any of their half decent players leave apart from Bannan, who likes being a big fish in a small pond because he ain’t actually any good, surrounded by kids and that fat donkey upfront.

Then in September fail to repay this loan on the stadium which would see Santander or whoever take it off them. Demolish Hillsborough, turn it into multi storey car park.

So mid season, Wednesday are scrambling about to find a new ground, beg us, we tell them to fuck off, as do Barnsley, Donny and Rotherham - and have to ground share with Scunthorpe or play at Middlewood.

They play out the rest of the season and don’t win a single game and are relegated to League 2, without a stadium, but Chansiri still in control. With the Elephants outside the reception and the thank you Chansiri banner still on the back of the kop.
 
I think, ideally, the Stockport county model would be my preference.

The year is 2038. They’re around tier 6, Vanarama North, with a promotion to the Vanarana National representing an incredibly successful groundbreaking season. Then sort of floating between the two. I would get a bit uncomfortable if they were on the verge of promotion back into the league, but then rejoice as they bottle a play off game and slip to another few relegations.

The ground is very important in this vision. I want them to keep it. I want 2,800 home fans watching them at that level, preferably with all 3 stands open so it looks even worse. They will be hamstrung by it, a noose around their neck. All money every year goes to paying for the ground, they can’t afford any paint or do maintenance on it so it falls into complete disrepair. Despite leaving 15 years in the past, C H A N S I R I still dominates the seats because they can’t afford to change it. A constant reminder. The image of the owl rimming a man’s arse is also still there.

They’ve finally arranged the move into the Dronfield stadium that Sheffield FC currently use, as they got a new stadium 12 years ago. It’s a perfect fit for Wednesday, in terms of club size and ground size. They operate at about 7/8 tier of English football and enjoy a fierce rivalry with Hallam and Sheffield FC. Rotherham, Barnsley and Chesterfield loan them under 18 players to ‘show them what men’s football is about’, but the players remain at their parent clubs to train as the facilities are much better. United buy up Hillsborough from them for a nominal fee, completely flatten the site, after the site has been fully decontaminated a purpose built training facility and 10,000 capacity mini ground for our under 23s and women’s team is incorporated, as well as tiered youth development pitches, similar to Barcelona or Man City. The site from which Mark Duffy struck his goal from is forever remembered with a statue on the exact spot. Their die hard lifelong fans don’t even have the solace of returning to Hillsborough to remember the good old days from 40 years ago when they were massive, as the site is fully red and white and an enormous Wembley-like arch of two huge swords looms over the site, along with the statue of Duffy as a constant reminder of what they had and who took it from them.

Every year we celebrate Bouncing Day as the poisoned blade which slowly killed them. The beginning of the end for them. Mark Duffy will go down as the first and only man to completely destroy an entire football club with a goal.

We will watch back at the Chansiri greeting video where they all bowed to him and tried to sing songs in his face with their tongue up his arse before he ruined their club.

We will gleefully watch the ‘WERE ON OUR WAAAAY WERE ON OUR WAY HOWDOWEGETHWEWWVIHFV KRSKJDCBK’ video from Wembley, and discuss what we think those people might be up to now, and how they spend their Saturday afternoons.

Most of all, we will remember how fucking annoying they were. How fucking thick they were. How deluded. Going back years, even since the early warnock years where we’d always beat them but they got bigger crowds so it didn’t matter, to us getting bigger crowds and crowds not mattering any more. To the 0-0 wins at our place. To the pre match build up to Bouncing Day where it was going to be the biggest derby day win of all time, before celebrating like they’d won the World Cup for getting a point 4 months later. To ‘what is a John fleck?’

We will have a day, probably in late September to mark this. A minute’s silence before the game nearest to Bouncing Day every year to make sure we NEVER forget how fucking annoying they were.

So no, I don’t hope they stay up this season mate.

Many of the top sides have had billionaire benefactors. Even the likes of Bournemouth and Stoke were heavily backed. Burnley are such an outlier.

For whatever reason, Sheffield’s clubs haven’t had that luxury. The odds of us getting promoted on our resources were slim. The odds of both Sheffield clubs getting there simultaneously are vanishingly small, and staying there even smaller. Unless ££££££....
 
A lot of people seem to be missing the question as asked, which is if we weren't going down... , which makes a difference, I think.
From my point of view, their fans have an arogance and have dished out the shit so often and for so long, which for me in my youth was putting up with the "Boxing Day Massacre" taunts, that the obvious reaction is to want them relegated season after season until they are no more.
BUT.... I would worry that over time we would a) become the arrogant, self-appointed superior football fans of Sheffield and b) lose something which helps define us - and although I can't say how exactly it defines us or whether it's a good thing, it can't be denied that the rivalry is part and parcel of being a Unitedite.
10 years of them being in the Conference and us being PL / top of the Championship and there'd be no more rivalry, no more than we have with Hallam. We would be in danger of being Billy Big Bollocks, like Leeds, dreaming up a rivalry with a club miles and miles away.
So overall, I just want us to be better than them, just a little bit better is good enough, even if we occasionally lose to them, I'd rather they were around and I'd rather they carried on thinking they were the biggest team around and we are the imposters. So.... possibly not, no.

My last year living in Sheffield was 1994, and for the previous few years to that, both clubs did well. We were promoted twice and reached the semi v them, whilst they won a trophy, got into Europe, nearly won the league and got into two finals v arsenal in the same season. The last thirty years have been terrible, more for them tbh as we've had great cup runs and time in the PL.

As discussed on a separate thread recently, the football clubs' malaise reveals a more deep rooted economic problem in South Yorkshire which is very sad for the city, regardless of your affinity to either club. Despite our awful season, at least we are in a much better position both on and off the field than them.

And I also wonder why this is only ever mentioned by various sources when it's them who are on the brink of ruination, but when United are we can just drop dead and nobody would give a toss.

My dream has always been to see us in the PL and them in League 2. God, I would love that, even if it was only for one season.
 
As usual I'm on the fence with this one, as I'd seriously like the miserable bastards to crash and burn into a massive fireball leaving a toxic crater in S6 and never be seen, heard of, or spoken about ever again

Maybe I’m biased because some close members of my family are pig fans, but sometimes I look across the city and it’s just a bit depressing.

It's something I've thought about, and I'm a bit conflicted over, because while I do the feeling after winning a derby, I have this thought in my head that it might be nice if they went down to League One (by 7 points or more so they know they can't blame the EFL), won their first five games next season by a margin so they got really excited, then didn't pick up a single point for the rest of the season and went down to League Two, Chansiri pulled whatever financial tricks he could to get out of there and leave them owing him a shit ton of money, they plummet out of the football league, one morning of light showers add the final bit of rust to leave Hillsborough condemned forcing them to ground share with Hallam, and before we know it they're selling "National League North Return Tickets".

You know, just for the banter and all that.
