In this window. There was originally a plan for 2 loan signings but the board have pulled the plug on that.
Just seen on twitter, took from the athletic.

Well, it's hardly a surprise considering it's the 26th of Jan and we're already relegated. But I'd have liked to see us start the first steps of a rebuild now.
Understand the boards stance though given how much money Wilder and Mitchell have pissed up the wall this season and last.

Hart, Sturridge, Welbeck, Wilshere= Free transfers

Ramsdale, Brewster, McBurnie, Berge = £85 million

Hmm....

True he has, but it's not like they'd have done much worse. Honestly Hart would've done better than Ramsdale so far wouldn't he
Hart's fucked. Ramsdale hasn't been as bad as people seem to like to think he has. Hart is walking disaster area now

Wilshere would never play because he'd always be injured

Same goes for Welbeck

Sturridge too, actually

Given Chris' refusal to talk about transfers, I assumed this was the case. Shame really, as I could see a couple of new faces coming in boosting us a bit. We're struggling for numbers.

If we'd signed Hart, Sturridge, Wilshere and Welbeck and we were in this position we'd be shitting it reight for next season.

We signed young players who might be good next season and beyond, maybe.

Me too, but if the deals aren't there to be done then that's it isn't it really?
Don't want anyone here who'll not be here next season, and I guess the thinking of it is Championship clubs will be very fucking skint in the summer and we'll have parachute payments.

Can't see Berge still being here, but other than that I agree.

I can't believe we are going the rest of the season inc FA Cup, with that threadbare midfield. Just 1 loan and/or Freeman back would surely make sense.

Is this the way the club makes these announcements now? Obviously there's been nothing from Wilder so you can read between the lines that no-one would be coming in. Why not just tell him from the outset that there would be no signings loan or otherwise. Surely this would have been the case on Jan 1 too?

The other point is, who's to say there'll be anything to spend in the summer either. We have a stadium and training ground to pay off

Well we’re now in the top 30 revenue earning clubs in the world, so somethings amiss.

Revenue earning probably for two seasons other clubs have had many years of earning those types of figures
Wealth of Chairman nowhere near top 30
There is £50m worth of stadium / assets to pay for

I think the story is from Football Insider, not the Athletic (unless they're reporting it, too).

The implication is that there's no money for Wilder in this window, not that we don't have any money at all or wouldn't have spent in this window if we weren't already fucked.

It's disappointing but understandable. Realistically we were never going to start the rebuild for next season in this window, although it would've been nice. A couple of decent loads might've improved our chances of avoiding breaking unwanted records on our way down, but that's it.

The tv money and parachute payments have been spent, we’re also saddled with the loan to buy the assets....More worrying looking at the wealth of the owners in the Championship the Prince is in the bottom 6,
He needs to sell the club...

Idiotic. You’d rather have Chansiri then?

What would we pay in wages?

Let's say we paid them £4 million a year, with a £2 million signing on bonus, so £6 million per player for one year x 4 which is £24 million. That's obscenely high and would work out at £76 k a week which I'm sure is more than what they are on now. But still it leads to:

£24 million vs. £80 million (+ whatever wages bonuses Brewster etc is on)

Look I don't think it would necessarily have been a better approach, but I believe we could have been a bit more... nuanced?

If that is true can't argue with the boards stance. It would be a complete waste of time and money. The only positive is it may give the squad a bit of a boost and we may then get a few more points in terms of potentially beating the records for worst ever team. However, the focus has to be on the summer. The wages agents will demand now v Champ will be different as will the wages we pay.

To me we need to get to the summer and move on a lot of players like Moore, Foderingham, Verrips, Bryan, Jagielka, Rodwell, J.Robinson, Freeman etc

We need to get what money we can for Mousset.

Then a few tough decisions on Stevens, Norwood, Fleck and maybe even Sharp. I expect if we can find takers a few to be moved on.

Berge we will need to get what we can for.

Think getting Egan to stay will be hard but depend on bids. O' Connell may stay until he proves his fitness but if hes close to level he was he will be gone by the end of August.

It's quite startling we may/will probably have about 6 or 7 new starters and similiar back ups. 13-14 new players seems a lot but the grind of the twice a week Championship will dictate that.

We need 2 competent Championship keepers. At the moment not sure we have any. Ramsdale will be given time but if he continues to perform as he has we can't keep playing him no matter how much he cost.

Full backs expect he will be go with what we have in RND/Lowe and Baldock/Bogle.

Potentially we need 3-5 new centre backs (with cover) if we still 3 at the back if we assume the above back ups leave and at least one of Egan/Jack.

We need at least 2-3 midfielders ...prob more with cover. It's not inconceivable we may only be left with Osborn and maybe one of Fleck/Norwood.

I expect he will leave the strikers as McBurnie, Didzy, Brewster and Burke...maybe Sharp a bit part.

Be an interesting summer and a turnover of players I did not expect to be so big and fast but failure dictates a fair few will move on for the good of the club and them.
