Why does the clock not count down any more during the game?
Is it something MA has asked for? or the systems broken or something else?
 



Maybe it should be replace entirely with a Countdown to relegation clock, because judging by some ideas on here we're doomed and we should no longer be looking at each game, but towards the time when the season is ACTUALLY over.

Hang on swiss, you clappers are always banging on about 'judge Blackie at the end of the season, give Micky time, too early to judge' and other pearls of wisdom like that.
 
Isn't really that Micky will not want players with one eye on the clock watching the time ticking away instead of concentrating fully on pulling back whatever the deficeit is?

Most comments strike me being pretty realistic when judged against the evidence of the season so far and the the way the remaining fixture list pans out.

Obviously there is still a chance that we can get out of the mess we're in. A couple of wins and who knows what might happen.

But most of the comments are not unreasonable.

We still need the equivalent of around 8 wins to avoid the drop. We haven't won 8 games all season even if we take into account cup matches. We have lost more than half of our league games and now that the Leicester match has come and gone, have only 3 home games left against bottom half of the table sides - Derby, Bristol City and Middlesbro. Many of our real crunch matches are away - Portsmouth, Crystal Palace, Scunthorpe, Preston, Ipswich.

There were a few people who think we will retain our championship status saying that they thought Leicester wasn't really a game they would expect us to get anything out of. I would say the opposite. If we are going to survive, we should be winning home matches against teams like Leicester (and Doncaster for that matter).

We don't even seem to have got any bounce from getting a new manager. Performances may have improved, but results are actually worse than under Speed. Our points per game ratio has fallen, not risen. I'm not blaming Adams for that by the way, just pointing out the facts.

Many people have wrtten off the forthcoming away game at Ipswich, but again, this is a side not far above us. If we really think we can get out of this mess Ipwsich are a side we should be optimistic about getting at least a point from. But I doubt there is anyone who in their heart of hearts really expects us to get anything out of that game. And if we lose that game the pressure cranks up another notch for the next game.

Much is made of the fact that we're always chasing games by conceding first. But in the last two games where we have scored first, we have gone on to lose the game - at Burnley and Norwich. And agaist Hull, we came back from 2 down to throw it away several minutes into injury time, just as we we threw away a point at home to Norwich having also come back well. Teams that are going to escape relegation don't do that.
 
So what we're really saying is that Rachel is so far behind La Vorda even Brownie is concentrating on the game itself.

No, quite the opposite. I did the conundrum whilst it was on the screen and there was no Rachel to gawp at.

I think Jeff Stelling and Rachel are a lot better than Richard Whiteley and Carol. I didn't like Richard as apparantly in person Richard Whiteley was an obnoxious twat, and once called my mate Finny 'a little cunt' at Leeds Station, and i think Carol's best days was in the past.

Plus if you remember I joined your Blackwell out campaign towards the end of last season because I thought the club weren't backing him and he was failing in his role...

Ps glad to see that you're still categorising people into clappers etc
 
Thanks for clearing all that up guys. So what we're really saying here is the clock doesn't matter especially if they put some pictures of Rachel Riley on the board no one would give a toss?
Although some might be having one!;)

Not entirely sure what you're getting at. You seem very good at saying don;t judge anyone until the end of the season or words to that effect but now it's concentrate on each game at a time. Which I do and on that basis Adams has overseen 2 points in 6 games and signed some total and utter shite imo.

My position on Adams has been very clear from day one. Hoofball, pre-historic dinasour who will increasingly waffle and bullshit his way through. I didn't want him as manager and don't want him as manager.

Your position on Blackwell turned more ways than it was possible to keep up with and still haven't got a clue.

I'm sorry to use term clapper but there really is no better alternative.

So Mic, I am amused. Thanks for brightening up my Friday. We're back to where were last season. Tell me, will you be tapping out and posting your inane ramblings again during a game like you did v Blackpool away game last season? Only to go quiet again when we pick up a few points?

Yeah i've said you have to judge Robson/ Blackwell/ Speed/ Carver/ Adams over a period of games, i'm sure you'll agree with this too. Where we perhaps differ is on the duration of the managers tenure. You tend to be 2 mins after Kick off in their first game, I tend to give a lot longer, but even that has dependant factors, such as Speed never having the benefit of a Transfer window to see the real ability to bring in players HE wanted.

As for Adams, your impartiality was never going to allow you to give Micky a fair crack of the whip. You had your mind made up and now you are back to your Blackwell era, blinkered view, but thats your perogative. Why am I also not surprised that your opinion is already made up on his signings too. His waffle and bullshit is anything but, he gets asked questions, tells it like it is, perhaps you could enlighten me as to where this waffle and bullshit nonsense comes from?

On Blackwell, yes my opinions varied, but then again the situation changed. I made it clear at the time why I changed my mind.

On this hoofball point, there is an element of this from what I saw, but far less than I expected/ heard about. The football has been varied in the games i've seen, but again i'll judgement on his "style"

One last point though, whilst we've not picked up the points we want, but in your opinion, has the chance of picking up points under Adams not improved?
 
It was Scunthorpe actually!! Inane? All I said was Edwards is reporting (and I stress the word reporting) that the players are arguing amongst themselves. So what iof I called the string Blackwell Out? Waht was inane about it? No more, no more less than that initially. I then had various people lambasting me including offers to shag the Mrs etc etc.

Chances of picking up points? What does that mean? Yes we are playing at a higher tempo and were unlucky v Leciester (I subscribe to view that Leicester could have stepped it up ve easily) but like Duncan Disorderly I donlt speculate, I deal in facts and the facts are 2 points out of 18 - from the great inspiration - the man who can do things SOD cannot. I think our chances are less if Collins and Doyle play and if Cressie and Willo play wide.

Waffle and bullshit will come, not read much yet but it's coming. Neill Collins - joke signing, truly astonishing.
 
I just checked and yes you're right it was Scunny, titled "Bye Bye Blackwell" ahhh the heady days of heated discussions. So you got what you wanted eventually with Blackwell.

So back on topic (well actually not as this thread was about the countdown timer but its been hijacked).

Chances of picking up points is simple, stop humouring me ;) You don't speculate? Could've fooled me....

Obviously going forward we don't know what will happen. But from what I have seen this season.

Blackwell - QPR (only for me), got torn limb from limb on the break and were blown away by break away goals. At times looked tidy going forward, but that day we were undone at the back. We had chances before their 1st, and between 1st and 2nd.

Under Speed - Conceded relatively few, but this was always at the expense of extremely cautious attacking. Creativity was at an absolute premium, but Speed was trying to address this with Yeates, Britton and Reid. Heading for below mid table finish. Attempted an extremely basic possession football, but no end product. We were both at Leeds away, so can see we were in some sort of agreement there.

Carver - Again only a minimal number of games, tried to inspire passion and get forward more, but didn't get ambitious enough so we were always going to struggle. Proved v Hull that we could get goals if/ when we pushed. An excellent performance and result (so I'm told) was the highlight of his short stint.

Adams - Started brightly in many ways, he instilled a confidence into players which almost paid off v Burnley and Donny. Sure we got out of jail v Donny, but gave a stepping stone. Can't deny he's got us creating chances and away from home has shown that he can pull the lads together like v Cov (A). Home, he's showing a little more ambition, playing 2 strikers, trying to play with creativity, but recognises the effectiveness of the direct approach with certain players and at certain times. His playing style has at times exposed weaknesses in defence, which he has attempted to plug with 3 defenders coming in and a defensive midfielder. Bent has added much need experience up front, but needs confidence and games before we see him at his best.

So have our chances of picking up points improved?

Defensively we need to be tested more, but Norwich was an example that our defensive set pieces need a lot of work. Leicester, got an early goal and sat back on this, so perhaps yes, if they'd have pressed us, they could've exposed us more.

Attacking. Its apparent that we create chances, but we're not clinical. Perhaps v Leicester if they'd come out 2nd half instead of defending the lead then we could've got something. But thats what they came to do. We have to learn to beat teams like that.

So yes, Micky has given us a better chance. But I have mixed feelings about how we'll do at Ipswich...

Could SoD done better with what we have? I don't actually think so. As I said at the time, SoD was the right man, perhaps wrong time.

Going back to the clock... it's pissing me RIGHT off that it doesn't count down any more.
IF IT'S NOT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.

Counting down, counting up, by looking at the fooking time the players are still gonna know how long's left. I know they're not brain surgeons but I hope they can tell the time...
 
The problem of the missing countdowneriser can be solved by the simple method of learning to tell the time.

Combine that important life skill with either wearing an accurate wristwatch; or some kind of pocket watch on a chain if you're some kind of modern day dandy (like Olle probably is:D); setting your mobile telephone's clock to the correct time, or looking at the clock that's next to the old, small scoreboard where the countdown timer isn't anymore. Then work out when the kick-off for each half was, and when forty-five minutes from then will be, and that will tell you when each half should finish.

Of course what it won't do is tell you the amount of time that's going to be added on, but considering that's a mystery until it's displayed by the fourth official and then announced by Gary Sinclair a moment after for those with bad eyesight or some kind of attention disorder, and often a mystery to those who heard or saw the announcement as to how those minutes were decided upon given the time the game was stopped. But the countdowneriser doesn't help you with that either, so it doesn't matter anyway.

Groovy. And remember, it's a piece of piss to be groovy, but it isn't groovy to be a piece of piss. :D
