I remember an interview with CW a while ago when he said he didn't believe in different types of CM like holding or advanced - he said that any CM should be able to cover & tackle & pass & drive forward.
I don't know whether that's still his philosophy.
Do you have your own solution to our midfield malaise Fulwood ?
I totally agree with you that midfield is the cause of our problems.
that's the question that even CWAK cant resolve.
The opposition now appear to sit where Norwood used to operate - can we say that the opposition teams have analysed us and stopped that. This may explain CW's reluctance to play Norwood every game. After all we do our own analysis and I would expect this analysis to show up what the opposition do/don't do.
Fleck's problem appears to be himself - never one to look "ready" for the start of a season. he's tended to get into the season after 3 or 4 average performances, but his form now is baffling.
All out midfield don't appear to WANT the ball - they seem to accept it when given it - but the old saying of pass and move is not to pass it and then think fuck it, i've done my bit - it's more of pass, move, want the ball back and WE used to be that sort of team.
The ball is a hot potato to a few now.
We go too long to McB - I am a critic although he played well v Leicester - his last good game was Liverpool away - we can't have 1 good game every few games, but McB will never be a Deane and Agana where channel football worked and the midfield picked up 2nd balls
We apparently started the season with the intention of a diamond - this now appears to be jettisoned.
So, what next?
We HAVE to get Fleck operating as before. We have the option of Berge/Norwood in the centre possibly someone else in RCM for Lundstram. I refuse to condemn Lunny or CW for playing him but he appears to be operating at 90-95% which simply isn't good enough for us where we must have our average players giving 100%.
Circumstances have counted against us as well as CWAK plans to change/alter the team round. Perfectly accept the need for change, but it is plain to see that changes are not working.
We need a settled 3 in the middle - Baldock (who's been one of our better players) and not Lowe on the left. Osborn works hard and I'd rather have him wide left that Lowe. Would never play Osborn in Flecks place - Osborn can't effect a game there, but out wide at least he'd be solid.
What is sure is that CWAK will never have a harder task than what is happening now - getting relegated and rebuilding would be far easier - but here and now we need to start picking up points, even if it's draws to bring a touch of confidence.
Are we possession based or are we going to lump it???? We need to decide very very soon.
It's a real tough ask
