So it begins...

The proceeds to clubs thing is just a rouse for rolling this out properly. I don’t think the powers that be really care about fans being allowed back. There’s less money to be made.
I think it’s all about fans not being allowed back. This is the clubs trying to force the governments hand and using SKY to do it.

I'm ashamed of sufc that they didn't vote against this.... Its now them and us... Fuck em

That‘s an interesting line on this. Especially given United’s public backing for the “let fans back in” campaign, or whatever it’s called, during the last few days. Coincidental timing? Perhaps.

Have other clubs publicly endorsed this campaign during the week?

I don’t think we’re on sky at all in Oct and November so my subscription is redundant anyway, might as well cancel.

Tier 1 content. And it doesn’t make good reading...

I’m keeping BT Sport so the next game I watch will be City end of Oct for free. Sky Sports can do one. Cancelling tomorrow. The highlights will have to do. After that we’ll see what they come up with.

Apart from voting it in 19-1?
They aren’t going to take a bullet while everyone aims at the broadcasters (when it’s actually all the clubs). I am willing to wager they will start coming out and saying it’s not ideal but wouldn’t be needed if fans were just allowed back in.

Another good reason to live in Aus 😆
I pay about £14/month for my mobile phone contract and it includes ‘Optus Sport’ - which shows every single premier league game live, also with good highlights packages!

For those on a different mobile network you can get Optus sport on its own for £8/month, or £75/year!

I must admit it has been a bit tricky to get down to the lane the last few years though...

So for people with Sky they might get to see United live around 10 games per season on top of that if they want to watch the other 25-30 games it will be £15 per game. We all know who are picked for live games the most it will be the big six maybe add Leeds, Leicester and Wolves the rest will be expected to pay £15 to watch their team play another side in the lower half of the Premier League ............. really? I don't pay £15 a game with my senior season ticket. I know this much I will not be paying Sky to watch training games in empty stadiums it is as boring as fuck. If we don't get fans back in the grounds soon the game will die and just become a crap TV show.
How long before Sky decide they want to form a European League with the top clubs from each country?

Why are you blaming SKY when it’s the Premier League voting this in? The broadcasters are just doing what they’re being asked to and we voted in favour of this.
Incidentally if this means we now sign Brooks or Buendia would fans be in favour?

Personally i feel £14.95 on top of Sky / Netflix and Amazon subscriptions is a tad too much for me will drive peeps into the IPTV world plenty of choice out there if you look hard enough - if longer term we get a definite no season ticket then id consider it however while people are waiting for news on season tickets maybe people would be unwilling to part with more money???
Pretty annoyed tbh. I’ve literally just added BT Sports to my Sky Sports package for an extra £25pm. I also have Amazon Prime. I was thinking with no end in sight to no crowds at matches I’d got all my bases covered and would be able to watch us whenever we’re on.

I’m fuming that now I’ll have to pay another £15 per game on top of the now £67 plus £7.99 Amazon Prime I’m already paying to watch our matches.

Bear in mind your top six clubs are televised virtually every match so this will only penalise the fans of the smaller clubs (everybody but the top six) who will be mostly ppv.

I’ll probably cancel the BT Sport add-on now as it’s on a rolling one month contract.

Really pissed off with this.
Yes if you look at Man City virtually every game is not PPV

Oh I'm not only blaming Sky but at the end of the day they are having more and more say on how when and where we can watch football, the trouble is clubs can't say no to them without risking losing £135m per year income. I'm fast losing interest in the game I just wonder when fans are allowed back to watch in the stadiums how many will return and how many will have found new interests elsewhere.

BT Sport aren't even showing another game at 12 on Sunday!

Absolutely pissing ridiculous

Firstly it’s the clubs asking for this to generate revenue, secondly the clubs can 100% but don’t want to because it’s them doing the asking.
SKY and BT already have a contract for games which suits them fine. What makes you think BT or SKY have the upper hand over the PL? It’s entirely the other way round, all the power is with the league.

I was on hold for 20 minutes to cancel BT Sport. The guy said they're busy because loads of people are cancelling.

I gave up trying to get through to Sky!

My Facebook and Twitter streams are full of people saying they're cancelling, as is this thread.

I would suggest the Premier League and 19 clubs have completely misread the mood of the nation.
It was the premier league clubs that voted for this not the tv companies. You can see at if the cancellations do happen the tv companies will be putting pressure back on the premier league saying their greedy decision ( more the price at £15 than anything else) has cost them existing customers.
Interesting to see if PL are looking to move away from the tv companies n long term and do their own thing because this is going to piss them off when tendering for the next contracts - biting the hand that feeds you currently

Pointless having a subscription now, I've cancelled Sky tonight and will just pay for individual games through Now TV.

At the minute our next 2 games r both PPV so thats 30 quid on top of the monthly subscription and the third one is on BT.

Whether its the clubs or TV companies doesn't really matter but they are pushing people too far. It could be the end of the current business model as the next step from PPV is the clubs selling their own game directly to the fan base and circumventing Sky and BT

I really don’t get the outrage, since when has watching football been free?

Before Covid we had to pay to go to the Lane if we wanted to watch a match that wasn’t chosen by Sky/BT for TV coverage. What’s the difference? Why should it be free now?

Have they re-formed? I like Can You Feel The Force and You To Me Are Everything but wouldn't be fussed about seeing them live.
Sorry to dash your hopes but lead singer passed away the other week....hear John Egan ain’t bad at singing, can even bring a few tunes of his own!

About to be announced......Whilst there will still be your games as usual on sky/Bt. All the extra games eg.3pm kick offs will be charged at £14.99 per game on top of your monthly tv subscription. Fulham v Blades will be ppv. All of the proceeds is going straight to the clubs to subsidise them during covid. This will be ongoing until fans are allowed back in.
More reasons not to watch.

I think people are more outraged over the price. £15 per 90 minutes of football on TV. £570 per season.

Because before Covid we all had season tickets and could go to games!

Skip forward 7/8 months and half the country are out of work or looking to be out of work in the near future, we can no longer attend matches, football is a shell of what it was when supporters were there (watching it on TV without spectators is dull as fuck!), and now they're effectively trying to add £500 to your bill for the pleasure!

It's a fucking piss take. Televised football has been taking the piss for years in the UK with the pricing and disruption to fans who attend games, and with them fragmenting the games to sell to different broadcasters (meaning everyone has to subscribe to more services) they've near doubled the cost already in the past couple of years. Now they pull this shit!

I don't see how anyone can defend it.
