I'm still happy with 17th. Our first team is much better than the sum of its parts but our squad is vastly inferior (on paper) to almost every other team. We've seen the difference between a fit, on form and buzzing first team and one with a few injuries and with players off form. I'm not convinced many of our first team would find a home in another Premier League team.

Nevertheless, we're clearly a bottom tier Premier League club in terms of budget. We should be delighted to avoid relegation and build incrementally. Long term who knows where we can end up, but right now we're in the bottom couple when it comes to ability to spend.

You might be right but I do wonder how the likes of Fleck, Baldock, Egan and O'Connell would fair in a 4-4-2 or other formation. They're perfect for the way we play but have weaknesses which might be highlighted in a different team. Berge is clearly a class apart.

I think people forget how quickly we’ve risen. Not so long ago we were marooned in league one and anyone thinking a couple of years in the championship and one year in the PL has suddenly transformed our finances to such an extent to allow us to spend hundreds of millions is delusional in my opinion.
