Just (within the past half an hour!) got a leaflet through the door saying United haven't seen me recently (thanks partly due to the crazy single match ticket pricing, but mostly because I chose not to renew my season ticket because of the manager we had at the time).

It's offering me a ticket for tomorrow's game for £10. Fair enough, decent offer, but it's only valid until 7pm tonight. Talk about short bloody notice (especially on bonfire night, with kids it's not the ideal time to take a 2 hour round journey to the lane).

Delivered by UKMail "express mail" service. Bit of a bloody waste of money sending god knows how many of these out (assuming everyone else also got them delivered today and most may not get them until they arrive home from work/the pub/fireworks displays/etc).

Would it not have made more sense to send these out last week? or at the very latest on Monday? Crazy.

(p.s. I'll probably get a half-season ticket - regardless of our league position/form, my lack of match attendances is also the reason I've not commented much in this part of the forum during this season).

Another lapsed season ticket holder had one of these this afternoon.
They really couldn't run a piss up in a brewery at the moment.

I just got in to collect todays post. Well done United. The daft thing is, I would probably have gone on for a tenner. Still struggling to justify to Mrs Mobile full price!

i received a letter in the post wishing me a happy birthday for later this month and would i like to celebrate it by coming down the lane and spend between £50 and £200 on a day at the lane. best gift ever

Same here mate. If I'd got it earlier in the week I'd have gone and picked up a ticket as I'm in the city centre most days.

I appreciate the offer to fans, but this one has been a total shambles. Also, what happened to the student deals that were advertised everywhere in previous seasons? OK, I appreciate they can't sell every game for £5 entry + a pie and a pint (which they've done on occasions previously), but I've not seen a single pro-active "special offer" advertisement anywhere around the Universities for the first time in years!

I understand University students now qualify for concessionary tickets, but that's not going to bring in the same amount of footfall as having big adverts plastered all over the Universities offering a cut price ticket now and then like previous seasons.

On the off chance someone from United actually reads this board; sack the marketing department and get some people with new ideas in. How about late September/early October offering students the old ticket+pie+pint deal but requiring them to fill in a form with their details on it (have people hanging around the Uni' buildings handing out the flyers). Every few weeks following that, when you're trying to pull crowds in, blast them all an e-mail and a text message offering a cheap ticket. Also get into social web promotion; get a #sufcdeals (or something similar) twitter feed going and keep people up to date on the latest offers. Stamp each ticket/program sold with the twitter feed and maybe a dedicated web page.

All these things can be done with virtually no money at all. In fact, they'd probably cost less than the entire budget you've just wasted sending out today's leaflets, and it's a long term marketing opportunity not a single waste of everybody's time (yours, mine and whoever had to come to my house to deliver a practically useless leaflet), and the clubs money.

I can only speak for Sheffield Uni but at the Union, tickets for United matches are always available at £7 (and tickets for the pigs at £6).

There's a massive poster pinned up in the Union Box Office. That said, I do think more could be done to target interested groups of students. Doesn't take much to find a list of societies and clubs on the Union's website...

Ah OK, my mistake. TBH I can't find my way around in there since they changed the whole layout last year. About the only places I've managed to locate is the Shop and Coffee Rev and that's only because they are at the front of the building :P

£7 a ticket sounds much more reasonable than the concession prices listed on the website. Is it Bramall Lane upper only or anywhere in the ground?

Coops, can you nip round to Mic's place and check he hasn't harrumphed his cock off at this news?:D

Not a chance Raul - I've been up all night getting the bunting out for you and searching for these bloody bassoons you ordered when you enter the ground, might have to be 100 piece trumpet fanfare up the south stand concourse instead. You really are an awkward so and so at times.

I know tickets are available for every match and for some games, the upper isn't open so it might be corner and upper. Not sure but I'll ask.

The box office did move downstairs into the Graves Building while the work was going on but they're back up in the new building now... if you know where Coffee Rev and the Union Shop are, aim down the middle :D

Can't confirm unfortunately. I went to check and he hurriedly pulled his trousers up and shoved the photo below into a drawer. Not sure what he was doing...

I hope Birch is asking some questions of the marketing manager to justify the cost of a mailshot with such ridiculous timing.

I'm a lapsed ST holder and would have taken up this offer had it been earlier in the week. As it was I saw my leaflet on returning from work at 6pm last night which left me 1 hour to re-arrange my family/childcare arrangements for the Saturday and get down to the Lane.

Seems to be another in a long line of decisions in last 12 to 18 months by the club that indicates they are living in their own little complacent world, increasingly detached from reality and losing touch with the fans.

"We Haven't Seen You Recently"

Thought it was time to try again, last one was the Portsmouth game.

Do we only play crap when I go? How was today compared to other games, the comments after the Scunthorpe loss got me back but we were poor against Portsmouth and just as bad today.

Disillusioned

i feel the same-every match i have been to this season we've lost bar 1-1 away at forest. fingers crossed for wednesday.

Apparently they haven't seen me recently?!

I've just had one of those stupid postcards through the letterbox offering me a £10 ticket because I haven't been to the lane supposedly?

I'm assuming the club's ability to keep up to date records doesnt extend to supporters who have bought new season tickets by moving seats.....

Good to see ticketing operations are still performing to the same standard as the matchday catering

Thanks for moving that. Forgot about the other thread.....a bit of ignorance on my part. Noted.

Got my postcard today saying they haven't seen me recently, would have actually been nice to receive before the match and offer ended as I wasn't working I would have gone for a tenner, think united have lost out on quite a few tenners by sending them out so late
