Yesterday during the first half my mate said to me that Bartley needs to toughen up a bit....

So we watched him for most of the game, if ever there was a game where we needed a harder Centre half like Morgs, then yesterday was it.

However, after my mate said that, Bartley, somehow grew some balls and started putting himself about a bit more. Maybe the penny dropped as to what he needed but I have to give him credit.

I get the feeling that yesterday was the day when Bartley manned up and stepped up to the mark.

I maybe too early in saying this, but he's starting to get the makings of a very good player.

This season's going to be a long one, we need discipline and we need players to stand up and be counted. Bartley's starting to do this

Well done lad - You're a Blade!

Much as he's done ok in spells this season, he's not a Blade, he's an Arsenal player getting experience at Bramall Lane to further his own career.
Next summer, whichever league we are in, we will need potentially up to three centre halves.
Along with other areas of the pitch, its another symbol of the short-termism which we've allowed to dominate our planning process as we've shed players left, right and centre.
Into that kind of mess, Speed's deluded and raising false hopes by claiming we are remotely good enough for the play-offs.

Agree with much of that, but Speed isn't deluded - it's the party line he's obliged to follow.

Same as in the close-season, if Birch and McCabe had sold us the line that we were hoping for no more than mid-table, they'd have been slaughtered. Virtually all the clubs in the division spout positive guff about the playoffs. Even Wendy did that. :)

The sad thing is that I bet our wage bill probably still is in line with a club that should be thinking play-offs.

Right on Swiss he maybe only 19 but at he let Becchio and Howson know that he was there not too many can face up to him at and 6'4" he was laughing at them.

Then again, it might not be, but I don't personally know. I know that the players will be on more than minimum wage, but none of us have any real idea. "Probably" is still guesswork, no matter what colour trousers it wears.

In any case, it's doubtful Speed would have asembled the same players on the same salary. I've no doubt several of ours are still overpaid, but it's water under the bridge. I think we can all agree that Blackwell was poor and spunked some good money, as well as sellling plenty to be fair.

Len, do you have Samaritans on speed dial?

I should clarify, I didn't mean that by calling him a blade he would be with us forever, I meant that his attitude and desire is very much what we appreciate at the lane. He showed himself to be a 100%er as well as a classy footballer when he wants to be

I don't doubt you'd only know they're on more than minimum wage Shoreham.

Totally and utterly ridiculous. I think we all have a very good idea that alot of our players are on alot more than the average wage for a second tier player

I know that you don't know how much they earn, because a professional know-it-all like your good self would have been crowing long and loud about it. After all, you're always right, aren't you? So how much do they earn? Or don't you know?

Well, I think we can all say one thing for sure.

None of us know how much money any of the players earn. Oh sure, we can have a guess, but we don't know.

It's when people try to tell us that their guesses are facts that it can wind others up. I'm fully aware that Sheffield United players are well paid - just look at the cars they drive - but we have no idea how much. "Think", "guess" and "probably" are speculation. Why is it ridiculous to say that we know they're on more than minimum wage, and that we have no real what they actually earn?

Unless of course you two do actually know exactly how much each player earns. Which you don't. Otherwise you'd have told us. Which you haven't.

I don't doubt that we have a big wage bill - these are footballers we are paying, not lowly paid folk like us. However, I have no idea what the actual figures are, and neither does any other poster so far in this thread, unless of cours they can prove it. "Proof" being just that, not a guess or speculation.

Bartley has been one of the positive points this season along with Britton....

The rest of the players though...... :(

Off the top, Simonsen, Morgan, Quinn, Evans, Yeates, Cresswell, Henderson, Monty and Britton will all be on good money for this league. We may well also be paying decent wedge towards Nozza and Bartley's wages.
The wage bill was very high last year, can't be bothered to look up the accounts, and though it will have come down it will still be substantial for this league.
I've no idea why you find it so difficult to contemplate the wage bill Shoreham.
It's not as if it's rocket science.

The bottom line is you don't know and what exactly are you comparing it against. Doubtless we are paying decent money but I would imagine QPR, Ipswich, Derby, Hull, Pompey (when they eventually get round to paying wages), Cardiff, Burnley, Forest, Boro, maybe even Leeds and Norwich are paying more.

Maybe he will be furthering his own career by playing well enough for us so that we take him off Arsenal's hands. By all accounts he was very keen to come back here. Anyhow I thought that, according to you, he was rubbish and would never make a footballer?

You're reminding me of McCabe in his Beattie interview with all this speculation nonsense. Very, very humiliating. 'It is only speculation that we have a higher wage bill than Coventry, Watford, Scunthorpe, Donny, Norwich etc, etc and all the other sides above is in the league who habitually embarress us in terms of possession and skill' said Kevn McCabe.

Please note this is not about demonstrating what they earn exactly which obviously we don't know. The original point was that our wage bill is still undoubtedly considerable/substantially higher) when compared with alot of clubs in the division and as such we could perhaps expect a bit more entertainment etc - that is all.

Have you actually read his orignal post? I think youa re agreeing with him? If we have the 10th highest wage bill that to me is a club that should be thinking play-offs. I know what Lenners meant - think so anyway and that was we should be realistically challenging for play-offs with the money spent on players. Not that we should def be in top 6. What on earth is the problem?

Len I mentioned this to you before - and it's a fact you choose to ignore - rocket science is simple, rocket propulsion science is what is really difficult and complicated. After all it's not as if it's rocket propulsion science.

Good point and thats why he doesnt know.
I think Off the top, Simonsen, Morgan, Quinn, Evans, Yeates, Cresswell, Henderson, Monty and Britton will all be on LESS money for this league. We may well also be paying LESS wedge towards Nozza and Bartley's wages. What they do get is an extra cup of tea and a digestive biscuit and a smile from sue on reception.

Who has a problem ? Len is using the 'we have one of the highest wage bills in the division' card again, all I'm saying is that he can't really use the wage bill as a guide to our chances or ambition when he doesn't know the facts.

back to the original thread.. i think that bartley is coming along nicely.. the fact that morgan is now missing has actually 'accelerated' his development.. he wasn't having any shit off the leeds players was he?.. good lad.

Er no, he wasn't.
He was saying that our wage bill will be in line with a club aiming for the play-offs.
I don't even understand why this is an issue as the manager and chairman are in agreement.

Fleety, if there are people who think the wage bill is high, ask yourself who it is that has a track record of coming out and saying "we have one of the highest wage bills in the division" every August?

James Beattie was on £37,500 a week plus perks including his own executive box. That's the only one I know!

Odd how the first post never mentioned wages, it was never about wages, this thread was about the acknowledgement of a young player who is growing in stature and I for one see something positive in this. I know he'll be gone at the end of his loan, but in times when positives are hard to come by, Bartley is starting to become a decent all round player.

Some of us on here would like to comment and debate on the subject raised rather than turn every post into an irrelvant slanging match

Well we'll have to do without him for a while now, fractured cheekbone. At least our luck has changed with a small squad, injuries and loans !

Gutted! Thank god we got de lait in.... oh shite he's injured as well!

Terrible for the big fella a clash of heads but a foul was given it sounded as though it was a late challenge, lets hope the fracture isn't a bad one.

He as been our best player so far this season , we will have to get him one of those masks to play in , that Adebola tried to do young Maguire at the reserves game the other week .

that Adebola tried to do young Maguire at the reserves game the other week .

He was used as a battering ram/target by Mr Davies, who had the cheek to moan about our style of play (We apparently shouldn't have closed them down and just given them space, like Swansea did) on Radio Notts after.

He fouled Nos in the build up and managed to rile Blades fans and players alike without the referee feeling the need to even have a chat with him.
