Might take some stick here, but I would take Rhodes. I've always though his movement and finishing to be top drawer. I think its his confidence that is shot.

If Billy was to take more of a back seat/coaching role next season then I could see Rhodes perhaps doing a job from the bench. Over the years he was one the most natural goalscorers Ive seen for a while. For a free as well....

I would pay for him NOT to come. There's a reason why multiple Piglet managers have not played him, he's a busted flush.

I think Chris Gunter offers a possible alternative as cover for Baldock. At 31 he is no spring chicken but he's always been a good player for Reading and on a free may be a decent shout?

I think that's enough internet for today - goodnight everyone!

Wouldn't surprise me if we signed Naughton. Of if one of his representatives mentioned us in the press in the hope of a deal.

Out of interest BiL - would you have suggested Naughton if he hadn't already played for Utd? All about opinions of course but personally, I don't think he's good enough. Same goes for another ex-Utd right back in Lowton.
Did you read his post ? ,he said we were linked with him in the summer by richard caddette .earlier in the thread a poster stated we had talks with him but he knocked us back as he wanted first team football
His previous links with us are irrelevant

Just throwing another name out here but anyone know anything about Kevin Stewart - seen he’s just been released by Hull after they went down

I know he was highly rated at one point when they bought him from Liverpool for I think around £4m. He Plays DM and cover at left back I believed.

When Tottenham were about to release him we had him on trial and he played for our U23s, but then Liverpool signed him!

interesting -

From what little I could see on Twitter the consensus seemed to be he’d had an ok season and some good games but not really up to his £17k per week wages and hefty fee.

maybe one who could improve with some better coaching

Van Der Hoorn for CB competition - A strong passer I believe. Odoi would be good cover for Bash. Wages may be too high for both.

Was a goer, now completely dead in the water (Van De Hoorn).

Mike Van Der Hoorn has Prem experience and given Rodwell will be let go and Jags is 37, could help at centre back. Though the one you want from Swansea is Oli's mate, Joe Rodin.
Was just about to say that. He'd be great cover to the back line in what might be a testing time finance wise.

It's smart, they're certainly not letting him go because he isnt good enough put it that way.

Not a given he won’t be offered a new deal according to Cooper. They’ve actually in the restart switched to a back three in a formation similar to us last season, and it’s been a big part of their successful run-in. Naughton actually played RCB in the first game this was tried.

He's 26 though so no longer young and whilst he may well improve we've got Robinson and Osborn who can play LWB and Osborn and Freeman who can cover left sided midfield.

Maybe we will sign someone on a free for cover though that we can develop or as a short term option like we did with Jags. I wonder if Jon Toral, also released by Hull, would be a more viable option as midfield cover, again very unlikely, but he has played very well in the past for Birmingham City, and has a decent pedigree. He's an attacking mid an different to what we have I would guess, although we've not played with the Duffy role last season, of course, not sure if he could play RCM. You can tell with this suggestion that not much is happening publicly in the transfer market for us! Not saying we're not busy behind the scenes though. You'd be well within your rights to say back to me what I've just said on Stewart!

Toral was another one hull bought for a sizeable fee wasn’t he? Could be Worth a look

If anything - wilder has taught me not to be snobby about any signing. Change of scenery and new manager can work wonders (obviously they don’t all come off.) But Robinson for 500k and (not rated at forest) has come in an added to the squad. As did Martin cranie last year. Signings no one was buzzing about at the time.

And obviously the likes of fleck, Duffy, and enda cost nowt too. We have to be clever and willing to explore avenues not everyone else would.

Jackson Irvine - Can't say I have seen him play too often to making a judgement on his abilities but I've been having a search online on different opinions and scouting reports on this lads play style. International footballer, captained his club so his attitude must be decent and he seems to fit the bill as a right sided box to box midfielder (Similar in many ways to Lunny). On a free, could be worth a punt?

Might be setting the bar a little low, but I'd imagine whilst trying to improve the squad we also have to be realistic and search for these types of players too as the finances we'll have won't allow us to be bringing in the top level players we'd all like to see this summer I'd imagine.

Rated him a few year back and was gutted we didn’t go for him when he went to Hull. Not sure if we would need him if we sign Swift

Decent shout as cover to be fair, suppose it depends on what's happening with Lunny. He did very well for Burton and scored 10 goals from midfield and, as we know, Clough's teams generally are low scoring! Still only 27.

Why is Eliason available on a free the guy has bags of pace, a trick and a decent cross, for the last 30 minutes of a game he is a real handful and still only 24. He would be my shout if Chris is listening

Bristol City have an option for another year.

Lots of good championship options mentioned but we're a team on the verge of Europe. So its reasonable to be offering £40k PW for out of contracts players that clubs need to shift if they are paying them £60k plus. So Pukki, Ramsdale, Mepham, Delefeou fall into that category.

Naughton back at RCB this evening FYI.

I don't know if any of these have recently signed new deals but these are meant to be frees in the summer and caught my eye..

Tomas Kalas
Jake Cooper
Liam Moore
Jay Da Silva
Ryan Manning
Daniel Johnson
Ben Wiles
Chiedozie Ogbene
Ken Sema
Chris Willock
Ross Stewart
