List of out of contract players in championship (Not sure if it’s 100% up to date)

But reckon there are a couple on there that could supplement the squad (Rather than be first team additions).

I always like George friend and Ryan shotton (though they are getting on) and che dunkley I remember being rated highly at one time.

naughton as cover for George I could also see happening.

CW may well look to players such as these to enhance the wider squad and provide upgrades on those leaving e.g. Van Der Hoorn, Hogg etc. but I'd be amazed if sees Naughton as a viable alternative to Baldock - I'd be very nervous of playing him in the Prem and feel he's Champ level (at absolute best).

What about Jordan Rhodes to improve the front line??? 🤔

were 2 seasons beyond dumpster diving for Championship free agents. Not a single one id be interested in.

I take the point but honestly given we’ve already taken a free agent from a far inferior league (spl) and wilder has said it’s an avenue we’d certainly be looking at I can see it happening

You only need to look at the likes of fleck, mcgoldrick and Duffy to see paying a fee is no indication of quality. i’d trust the management team to get something out of whomever we sign.

The likes of k freeman and jags (potentially) will need replacing.

Wilder has already said we'll be in on the free market

yes he did but there are free agents in a lot of leagues all over Europe and the premier league aswell. Like Kyriakos Papadopoulos who we have been reported to be interested in from Germany. (who i hope we dont sign btw) but my point is we dont need to be going after ageing players or guys not good enough in the championship.

and before the typical McGoldrick response is thrown out lets all realise that situation is the exception not the rule.

I’m not suggesting the would be first team regulars but can see some squad depth coming from that bucket.

so naughton would become the K Freeman alternative

Foderingham is an upgrade on Moore regardless of what league he has come from and he was free because he turned down a contract not because he was being let go by his club, how many on that list can say the same ? Im not saying we wont be getting guys on frees and Im not saying championship players cant do a job of course they can. Im saying the profile of the guys listed is a dumpster dive.

Have you seen him the last few seasons ? Yes hes a Freeman upgrade (just about these days) but hes been rubbish for a few years now, will be on stupid wages and I really dont see it being a good move for him or the club.

The pros hes a former blade, hes got plenty premier league experience but that where it ends.

Probably fair - I’ve genuinely not watched enough championship football other than united games over the last few years to Who’s still performing at a high level. So going off past reputation or times I’ve seen them live and been impressed. Though I know wilder and team will have all potential signings scouted fully.

It is a useful tool though, you can see who’s contracts expire when - some players expiring in 2021 who clubs might have to cash in on. Dael fry caught my eye on that list.

Mike Van Der Hoorn has Prem experience and given Rodwell will be let go and Jags is 37, could help at centre back. Though the one you want from Swansea is Oli's mate, Joe Rodin.

I have a mate who's a Boro fan and he says Friend is past his best an he said that last season. Not asked him for this season but I think that's a no. I'm sure we'll be looking at Championship players, we already are with Swift, obviously, but doubt there's much quality in the freebie market. I guess those that have turned down contracts are what you're thinking of, hoping for a bigger move, but there's probably more likelihood of a decent freebie from the Pl retain list.

I think Naughton might replace Kieron Freeman in the squad. We enquired about him last summer according to Cadette. Ideally we would go for someone a bit younger, but as backup for Baldock he’d probably be an upgrade on Freeman at this level. At 28, Freeman no doubt wants to be playing regularly again. He’s not going to get that with us.

A cut-price adequate squad player here might enable us to channel funds to other areas. If he do get him let’s look at it in the overall context of who we get this summer, rather than looking at it in isolation.

Out of interest BiL - would you have suggested Naughton if he hadn't already played for Utd? All about opinions of course but personally, I don't think he's good enough. Same goes for another ex-Utd right back in Lowton.

Out of all the players on the list, I'd maybe take Jonathan Hogg but he'd be no more than a bench player, park him in front of the defence to protect a lead

probably not, but he’s not past it at 28 and has a fair amount of PL experience (I’d argue although Lowton has Not set the world Alight, he’s done Well at PL level.)

I reckon it’s same with people after us to sign ramsdale despite being towards the bottom of PL keepers statistics wise.

We were apparently in for him last summer according to RC, so could still see it happening....

Cash, Romeo, Cooper (Jake) & Lenihan would all be able to compete for a first team place or even potentially start if any if the 1st teamers in their positions we're to be sold to generate funds...

Probably others too from the championship but there the ones I like.

I can see Naughton happening too based purely on what Cadette said. I personally wouldn't be looking at him but apparently Wilder knows a bit more than me about football

Might take some stick here, but I would take Rhodes. I've always though his movement and finishing to be top drawer. I think its his confidence that is shot.

If Billy was to take more of a back seat/coaching role next season then I could see Rhodes perhaps doing a job from the bench. Over the years he was one the most natural goalscorers Ive seen for a while. For a free as well....
