Announced last night, The Railway hotel has closed permanently. Along with Sheaf thats 2 gone due to covid. Lets hope the club buy them up as theres hardly any left, i think Man u own alot around old Trafford so its not unheard of, these pubs are vital for match days. Really sad news. Confident that when Wilder finds out, he will personally buy the Railway😂

My mates taking over the sheaf in September

Driving about Sheffield I see quite a few pubs which are boarded up Gypsy Queen at Peaks, Red Lion at Gleadless town end, makes you wonder if they will ever open again.

Kin ell, you got me worried for a minute there. I've bought tickets for the trans penine express to Manchester airport. 😜

Seriously, this pub has got to be saved. It's a part of our club DNA. We simply can not let these things happen!

The people running it have quit. Bit of a difference. It's still going to be very tough for a pub like this to reopen

Sounds like it needs someone willing to buy a potentially loss-making hospitality business, who’s suddenly got some spare capital going, and who will jump at the opportunity of a prominently placed property by Bramall Lane.

The True Blades Railway Inn, opening this autumn.

Now that SUFC own the hotel they could convert some of the space to make a few bars. You could have a room for people who like it quiet, another room to take kids in and one for music.

Gypsy Queen looks like it is preparing to re-open. I suspect the pubs were boarded up to prevent unwelcome visitors during COVID19 shutdown.

They’d really improved that pub with some decent beer and atmosphere. A shame but understandable when I’m guessing the vast bulk of their income came from Match days in a rammed pub.. a real shame

Agreed. Vast improvement over the years and a good selection of beers. Loved those Pac-Man tables as well!

Which pub do you speak of ?

Railway Hotel is a great blades institution, some fine ales over the last few years . ,Len Badger Bradshaw and Mitch ward always in afer the games .I truly hope some one takes it on

Now what about a crowd funding ? as it gets no daytime or night trade really aprt from matchdays, need to buy he freehold and open on matchdays. If we could do a crowdfund to raise the amount then that would be doable. Need to get a price for it tho to start a crowdfund. I’ll look into it this evening but if anyone has a contact for the freehold that would be very helpful. Once i have the price, i will start up a crowdfund page for it.

Hey! No-one loves Real Ale more than me...........so I'm going to knock £1 off the asking price of the any of the 18 luxury modern apartment/living spaces I'm going to build on the site to all CAMRA members.

Very sad news re the Railway. Not drank in there in years to be honest, I always thought there was a membership scheme or similar on a Saturday? I usually go to the Golden Lion, or occasionally the Cricketers, which is looking somewhat tired internally, but its only open for football days I think? Maybe the Railway could do the same, or is it doing that already?

I'm with others that the club should consider buying one of the local boozers so that its preserved and always for the fans.

The Railway will re-open again but the landlord has walked away from it. The owner of the pub is looking for a new landlord to take it on if there's any takers.........
