Whilst perusing social media yesterday after the match, and indeed after the last few matches I've made a general observation.

I've been a United supporter for over 35 years, and a season ticket holder for the last 20 seasons.

I've also watched United in the very depths of the wilderness years, and rightly seen certain United sides take absolute pelters for a lack of effort, not giving a shit, and recall the lap of shame at the end of the Adkins season. However it does appear those same supporters who was critical in those times, generally aren't those same supporters who are the ones who are giving the team absolute pelters now.

I'm disappointed with how things have gone since the restart, but also accept these are strange times, and I think the lack of people in the ground is having a huge, negative effect on the players who we have become accustomed to getting that 5% from thanks to the crowd backing.

We've got a young striker with a big price tag who hasn't hidden from anything during a difficult transition to top flight football, not been frightened to stick his head in where it hurts and has grafted his bollocks off for the cause, and who will with the right backing become a very handy player at this level. The fans response, call him McShitty.

Stevens has a bad game, the response, call him shit. Basham and Fleck have a poor game, one coming back from injury, the response, get shit flung their way. Wilder doesn't use the full 5 subs, his managerial ability is called in to question.

This squad of players don't owe us anything. 4 years ago we was in League One with no real prospect of an escape on the horizon. We now sit in the top half of the Premiership, thanks to the squad of players we have got caring, giving a shit and giving everything to the cause.

Before the start of the season, we was widely tipped to finish rock bottom this season, by many media pundits, as well as most football supporters of other teams. We now sit in the top half of the Premiership and to all intents and purposes safe from relegation.

So why are some so angry, and quick to have a go at the players and the managers.

Isn't the wonderful season we had until the suspension of football in the country good enough?

Don't the players Wilder has brought in deserve to be afforded time, and don't the players who have performed admirably in the past in getting us to where we are deserve a bit of grace as they hit a patch of bad form after struggling to adapt to the restart?

Is Wilder the problem? Does the fact that he has done so well over the last 4 years in getting us to where we are go out of the window, and he has become a bad manager overnight because he has presided over a poor run of form, and doesn't use all his substutions?

Or do we need to all sit back, take a look at the bigger picture and give the manager and players great credit for getting to where they are, and if we don't get in to Europe, accept it and understand we spent a long time chasing a prize we had no right to chase due to the huge disparity in money we spend compared to the others we are competing again.

Personally i think there is an element of our fan base who have allowed themselves to become entitled, and I think a lot of them used to be the same tantrum throwing, feet stampers who used to trot out lines like "I'm not going to Bramall Lane and giving United mi moneh while they are this wank", only to jump back on the bandwagon when things came good, and now we have hit a sticky spell have reverted to type. They players aren't 'bottlejobs' and whoever it was who coined the term "McShitty" had made himself look a prized twat.

We've had a superb season, the future is still very bright for United and under this manager and under this squad of players, great things are still to come and we only will stronger, now we have got a bit of Premier League experience and nous, it will improve us. Prehaps people who have been so quick to criticse should really begin to accept what we have done and appreciate the magnitude of what we have achieved.

Great post - 100% agree and the McShitty post was absolutely a new low. Well said sir.

Eloquently summarised mate😉

I honestly believe it’s only a small faction of our supporters that have let their emotions get the better of them in recent weeks. McShitty guy being the prime example of such idiotic posts!

There’s a portion of the fans that are passionate about the club who generally want to discuss ways to make things right after a bad game. I think under normal circumstances these points would be discussed in the pub, but alas that’s not an option so views are aired on here... sometimes in the heat of the moment!

But yes I’m sure most are eternally grateful to Wilder and the boys. Just maybe a tad disappointed with recent results as we know we are better than that now.

Nailed it mate

Someone on another thread is calling Wilder out for not ‘trying something different’ yesterday, yeah let’s try new shit in a FACuo quarterfinal ?

Remember when as a kid you would see some little brat laid on the floor of the toy shop stropping cos mummy would only buy him 3 toys that day? Well that fucker is Now a keyboard warrior on here

There is a whole raft of “fans” on this site that have made good use of the lockdown, they have obviously all passed a degree in fuckin hindsight.....
Wilder should have done this
Bash should have done that
McBurnie needs to do more of these

Not long enough post and lacking more spefic content.😉 I was much happier based on yesterday's performance. Good OP though😎

Spot on by the op, I hope the team don't see some of the negativity on here and assume the majority feel the same way.

Tell me about it, at times it seems like 80% of the site contributors have tourettes & usually can be found venting spleens 5 minutes after kick off if we aren't 3 up & is still going on the following day.
I am not one who continually puts out messages all the time, & recently thought about contributing more on match days via shoutbox or chat, but jeez, it gets toxic & it can be inhibiting I guess, & it certainly gives me the feeling of not wanting to bother.

Bugger you took the words right out of my quote. Well said. I hate to hear all the crap 10 minutes into the game that some so called fans dish out.

It was bound to happen. Other club's supporters have the same mentality....

Newcastle fans wanted Bobby Robson out because finishing 4th in the Premier league wasn't good enough.
Stoke fans wanted Tony Pullis out because they wanted more than just Premier league survival, The same applies to Charlton and Curbishley.

I thought we might have given the manager and players longer than 30 games though.

Entitled supporters?

I prefer Premier League Privelige.

Got it spot on there.

Great post.

I've sent you a message ;)

I hate getting beaten but I can stomach it as long as the standard of performance is there. Unfortunately prior to Arsenal it wasn’t. This was unexpected given the form over the past 3 seasons hence the knee jerk reaction.

Taken in isolation the Arsenal game is not one to be moaning about but I think people are just looking at 4 losses on paper. This is the wrong perspective as results hide performances.

Some people are unable to see that in terms of performance the Arsenal games was night in comparison to the day of the previous 3.

Good post.
It's a symptom of the internet. Mouthy types get to spout bollocks.
The silent majority shake their heads at the ridiculous posts and a few argue with them.
For example, the post having a go at CW use of suns got 3 likes.
Your post got 96.

I have watched United for 40 years, incredible last 5 years and fabulous year in the PL
Clearly we are struggling a bit since the re start, but whatever happens we are still in the PL next season, strengthen a few positions and we go again
The comments of some fans are embarrassing and not called for, I don’t get them at all, just ignore them

Having started going in the late 70s I’ve seen far more downs than ups following the Blades. But whilst I agree with some of the OP I do think some people get too upset about criticism from our fans. It’s a passionate thing following a football team and I think it’s fine for fans to give their views, good or bad, as long as they don’t get personal. It’s also worth pointing out that Wilder himself has been far more critical of the team than most of our fans.
