First proper job (after milk rounds and S&E shop work), started in the Fountain Precinct to the left of the top pic.
A bit worrying trying to be a proper grown up at 21, but fortunately I met several similar reprobates.

84/85 was just before a particular low point at Lane. With part time jobs, I'd had a standing kop season ticket since 1981 but sadly the Dinno contingent fell away.
By 1987, I was attending some games on my own and others had only 2 or 3 of us, when we'd had several times that in the early 80s. These were 'proper' Blades who'd seen plenty of hooliganism, so it wasn't fear, but football really fell out of fashion. Look at our gates from 85-88 to realise how shit things got. I was there like many on here, but loads of Blades just stopped going.

That was another time. We have our New Model Army under CW and AK and the future is bright!

Our local chippy as a kid. Shiregreen?
Same here. Used to get sent there once in the week for tea and also had them again on Saturday dinner time before the game. Old Scottish fella that had it then a younger couple took over.

My mum worked in the shop next door which I think was called Davies.

Other honourable mentions to the video shop and to shillito’s on other sides of the circle

They weren't shielding their mouths, they were ululating. (Look it up on Wikipedia)
Strangely, I realised what they were doing because as a people they are well documented and I have read and watched accounts of their way of life for most of my life. My attempt at a little humour. As someone on here says "I'll get mi coat".
Many years ago I visited Kenya, beautiful country, Mombasa and Nairobi and into the Rift Valley but never encountered any Massa.

The sign near Preston wasn't an enamelled, rectangular one as you show but if you could cut the figures and batten out as one, then enlarge the figures to 15 or 20 foot and stick them in a field facing the rail track that was it
I couldn't find a photo of a real sign in situ but found a 00 gage model and a Dinky one hopefully they give you a better idea.Hall's Paints Sign oo gauge model.jpgHall's Dinky_Toys_No13,_Halls_Distemper_Advertisement_(1935_BHTMP).jpg

Buywise supermarket too
Strangely enough I can’t recollect that one bud. Which side of the quadrant was it on?

Can’t place all the shops now as I’m going back 35 +years since I used to go to Queenies. I remember the off licence, where I actually bought by first ever alcohol , 4 cans of stones on NYE 1987 and that was next to shillito

James Alexander -Gorden? Or was he the radio guy
Yes I think he's who we are thinking of, but there was also Tim Gudgin. J A-G was a Scotsman, I believe, if you were checking your pools coupon you didn't need to look at the telly you could tell the result from the tone of his voice, he also gave every team their full title. Happy days, we always had filleted Finney Haddock for tea while the results were on

The quadrant opposite Queenies and the supermarket. See below

Talking of Scottish sounding people, there was also Sam Leitch's football preview Saturday dinner time.
Sam was actually English.

You would be unlikely to encounter any Maasai 'in the wild' going through this ritual. I photographed this many years ago at a place called Mayers Farm, at the foot of the escarpment, north of Nairobi. They put on a whole Maasai experience for tourists, with a Maasai village, mock battles, etc. I believe it is still in existence, though I can't vouch for it.

I trust it was cooked in milk with a knob of butter and served with a slice of bread and butter.

Can anyone remember the name of the bloke that did the full time scores . He did it for years without ever missing a Saturday? On the BBC after the old telly printer. The presenter would say over to ....... ? for the final scores.
Can't remember if it was Tim Gudgin or Len Martin. You could always tell from his voice intonation if the away team had won, drawn or lost.

Congratulations on the photo, excellent you caught things at exactly the right moment, you must be a professional.
When you went into the 'Valley', do you remember the little church at the side of the road. built by Italian prisoners of war, who also built the road. Tried to find photos of the church but drew a blank, to present.

Shillito used to live on Godric road, just off Nethershire lane. I think there were three brothers.
I think the chippy in the 70s was owned by a Greek/Cypriot family.
