Out of interest, what qualifies you to make predictions like “we in all likelihood won't go the Lane for maybe 18 months to 2 years”?
Ignore him mate. He’s insistent that football’s done for 18 months.
They’ll be playing again in June. Next couple of weeks will see things rapidly improve.

All plans saying football back by June say behind closed doors. Nobody is saying when crowds will be let back. Social distancing is here for a while yet.

I have no qualifications to make predictions. However, I am basing them on experts from the Imperial College and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer who are saying we will have social distancing in some form for up to 18 months. That places any football spectating a long way away.

Any form of social distancing will put Sport/theatre/cinema/music performance attendance firmly in the category of non essential gathering and would surely be the last things to be allowed to happen?

Until there is a vaccine do you think they will allow 15, 30,000 - 50,000 people to mix for something non essential?

If it takes 18 months the world is going to be a strange place. Italy & Spain are now in decline and apart from us and the US I see most other countries being stable or in decline.

If people can go and work in packed warehouses for online shopping companies during the peak then social gatherings in say a couple of months must realistic. If it carries on longer when the numbers of infection are low the attitude of the public will change.

I think there will be football but behind closed doors and not for a good while yet.

Crowds at football matches are an entirely different scenario and that is why I don't think a long term 12-18 month projection is outlandish.

Hope I am wrong.

So do I.

Thats fair enough. As long as they open the bloody pubs up.

I reckon they’ll open them but limit the amount of people allowed inside in the first instance.

When they eventually reopen, that night will be like biggest night out in decades. Anybody who likes a piss up will be out, it will be amazing! The problem is the government also know this, so it will probably delay reopening.

I would not worry about season tickets. There is not going to be any games for fans in stadiums for a very long time. Certainly not this calendar year.

DB, can you knock it off for at least one thread? It's a depressing enough time as it is without reading your worst case scenario "by the time you watch another game at BDTBL you'll be on a senior's season ticket and I don't care that you're 37" in every single thread, give it a rest. At the very least, if you believe what you're saying to this extent, put up or shut up - if you don't think this calendar year, my £20 to yours to a charity of the winner's choice, I'll take a minimum of one league game involving any of the 92 being played with spectators by the end of 2020, you take zero. If it's a certainty, you can't lose, although if you're close to winning you probably can't win as life won't be worth living in that world

My god there is some doom and gloom on here. A lockdown for another two months would not be enforceable people will not stand for it even if you put armed police and the army on the streets. I would suggest there will be a relaxing of the restrictions by June or the government will be risking civil unrest we are not like communist China where most of the population do as they are told without question by nature or by fear if that doesn't work.
So, if the situation is no better and there is still a lockdown in 2 months you’d be one of those people ‘not standing for it’? You’d be out doing your own thing then? Communist China where people do as they are told? If thick fuckers here in the UK aren’t going to do what’s asked of them they will be told.. the only way things will have relaxed by June is if people STAY INDOORS and ‘not do their own thing’

Life won't be worth living if you can't go to a football game by the end of this year?

Really?

I think they are more important
things and 95% of other things getting back.

Yeah life is depressing...my wife lost her Step Dad in the night to corona virus. Her Mum is in bits. Not even sure why I'm on here....old habits I guess!

As for your bet, I'm not betting on it just because I have different opinion. I've given some money to the NHS and a few other charities over the last few weeks.

Its a forum where people discuss opinions related to football. I don't think there will be any football with spectators for a long-time and I've given reasons on it. I have still to see anyone give any reasons how/why mass spectators could come back in the near or even mid term future without a vaccine other than 'there will be games.' I hope I am wrong. Will gladly come on here and say thankfully I was way off target.

At the end of the day football is the most important thing in many people's lives after family but I aint really that arsed about it at the moment. I'll knock off the 'doom and gloom' as you call it but I think some do need a sense of reality. Many people are going through awful times affected in one way or another and yes I get this is a football forum with opinions about football but I think there are some a bit detached from what is important and the reality of the situation; some (its a minority) genuinelly feel we will be having football matches in a few months and back going again by August. I think.it would be sheer lunacy/totally culpable from the govt to allow services/fans to be utilised for what is a Sport. Surprised others think it should even be considered that's all or actually believe all these tabloid reports about games and lockdown camps happening soon. It's crackers.

The only reason most clubs want to come back is they are petrified of losing 800 million from the TV companies. Not even sure why they are meeting over something that ain't going to happen for a long time? The pathetic squabbling over money/wages has actually really soured things regarding owners and players and many should be ashamed really - clubs like Liverpool, Spurts etc (some of these quotes from players are embarrsssing despite them saying other rich people have not been discussed - so what - make a stand!). Anyway I'm waffling....

I'll make that my final words on the subject for a while. We'll see what happens. As I say hope I am wrong.
