Which one is the makeweight to make the better one feel less homesick?

Pele never played for Boca. There is no doubt who was the greatest player of all time. It really is beyond question.

Not sure that's unquestionable.

Pele, Maradona, Zidane, Cruyff and Monty - not a great deal between them for me.

I don't think Zidane is really up there tbh, he didn't dominate like the rest on that list...

I think he had a better all round game than any of them. But Pele and Maradona will always be considered the best.

How many of you saw them all? I did. Pele was head and shoulders above the others believe me. Check their respective records. He was incomparable.

Platini was better than Zidane. Beckenbauer the greatest defender.

I've seen them all including the great Pele at Swillsborough playing for Santos. I think all the others were better - for two reasons

1) Pele never played in Europe whereas the others did and won major European trophies as well as being WC winners.
2) Pele played at a time when the game was less physical and slower.

That said he was probably the greatest of his era.

But none of the others scored with a bicycle kick against the nazi's

And none of the other stopped a war either.

There are certainly tangible examples of soccer soothing the savage beast of war. What did the British and Germans do during the famous 1914 Christmas truce across the trenches during World War I? They played a soccer match (the Germans won, 3-2). During the peak of popularity for Brazilian soccer phenom Pele, the combatants in the Biafran war in Nigeria declared a two-day truce so they could watch him play. Of course, in both cases, the cessation of conflict was only temporary.

I think the winner is the the player that has been to Bramall lane...

Eusebio and pele both have... Did Maradona ever come to the lane?

Oh and Peter Crouch played for Porstmouth as a gangly young lad

What about George Best? Whether he belongs to a list of the greatest, I don't know. But he he certainly gave one or two of the greatest performances against the Blades that I have seen.

It's definitely Argyle players :(

Seip and... errr.... Larrieu :(

Pele's record at the very highest level - the World Cup - eclipses the lot of them put together. Zidane was a Sunday Leaguer by comparison.

Pele, Federer and Ali - unquestionably the greatest of all time.

Personally I thought Diego was a more naturally gifted player... even if he was a fat little cheating, argie shite with a preference for a nose bag of columbia's finest export

Whenever people debate the greatest player ever, its only ever the great attacking players that are mentioned. That's fair enough, the Peles & Maradonas are the players that create the fantasy that we all love. But if we look at it a bit more dispassionately, surely the likes of Paulo Maldini should be considered? Not a creative player or a goal scorer, but one of the greatest players ever to have graced a pitch nonetheless.

Absolutely. The likes of Mattheus, Maldini and Beckenbauer have always been the type of player I've idolised the most, being a centre half - albeit slightly less successful.

Add Morgs to that list ;)

isnt julian speroni an argentinian? could this be our back up plan if paddy leaves?

I agree about Maldini especially. If his granny was dribbling the ball down the wing, he would have joyfully kicked her into the crowd. Real pro...

I used to rather like watching the rather mis-named 'Gentile' what an assasin he was..

I understand something may come out soon :)

The team involved wear familiar colours ;)
