As someone has decided to bring McBurnie into a thread about Berge, it might be interesting to look again at their relative progress, maybe in January 2021?
They play in very different positions and have contrasting backgrounds off the pitch, but both will have experienced the professional rush of playing in the EPL. Both will have adapted to the Blades system, and received the careful ministrations and paternal guidance of Wilder and Knill.
Perhaps that will be a more appropriate time to consider their value to the club, and how adaptable they have been in each case?

Well said mate .What do these guys want?We are the Blades not Liverpool we were in league one not long back with no money look at us now.Every one in football can not believe the transformation this club as gone through apart from some Blades fans .Get real for christ sakes we are on a fabulous run thanks to Wilder and his team.If you think differently it would be interesting to know what other manager they would prefer,I can not think of one.

I think this is also the reason Wilder let off some steam.....maybe he reads this thread.

Come on, saying that it MIGHT be better for the short term for the team that he comes on from the bench initially and that there's a chance it MAY not work out for him here is not unreasonable.
 
In what other form of work would you criticise someone after only a few weeks of arriving at a new club, especially if it took them more time to adjust to what was being asked of them???

But of course football is different, impatience rules due to the belief that you cannot offer the necessary help that someone might require. I mean, it would be foolish to reach out and offer help and assistance, especially when the person in question has cost several millions, I mean, c'mon, why would you want to help someone who appears to be struggling?

Personally, if I saw someone who needed help I'd try and offer whatever help I was capable of offering, wouldn't you?

He's basically a risk free gamble, in the same vein as Ravel 'He was shit hot when he was 18 & played for Man Utd yoofs' Morrison. In this case, RZ he was shit hot when he was 18 and played for Ajax yoofs. He's now 23 yrs of age compared to Ravel's 24. If it pays off, it's worth it, if not then i suspect RZ will go back to the dutch leagues.

It's worth pointing out that his scoring record at any great level is 35 goals in 147 games spread over the dutch & belgian top leagues.

I think last season we would bring on Duffy in those situations where he was capable of cutting inside and shooting from outside the box. This is where I would like us to try something different to what we are doing this season and bring on Luke Freeman. We also put over a lot of crosses into the box which appeared to be over hit but that was because we weren't using the overload and ready for them due to Berge getting used to the way we play. Bergen did a great thread on how Berge was not used by his teammates in some situations which was a shame after that early run down the right wing against Brighton. After that he didn't really get a touch. O'Connell was even giving Norwood an earful for just staying with his marker instead of moving in to space to receive the ball. I don't think we have been as good in set pieces either.

I would too IIYB but apparently despite his young years and the upheaval of changing club and country, his £22m price tag demands that he hits the ground running. If he’d cost £10m like Mousset or £5m like Osborn he‘d be given time to settle, but it is written (somewhere) that any player costing £20m or over must play a reight blinder...no sympathy, no support and zero slack cut. Of course this may pile undue pressure on a player from the off and work against him and ultimately the club but rules are rules.

Bollocks to those rules say I.......I know you have an empathic nature mate, and that you'd do whatever was needed in order to make life acceptable to any young player, and my view is that given time we'll find we have a superb player on our books. I'm mightily impressed with Berge's manner and maturity, and I'm sure the players are doing their very best to help SB acclimatise to the club, what life is like here etc, etc.....but SB strikes me as an exceptionally grounded guy, so I hope it's not too long before we begin to see why Wilder chose to spend a record amount on this player.

Couldn’t disagree more. It will take as long as it takes, and he’ll get the support and guidance he needs from inside the club. They’ll look after their investment.

At work I regularly come across macho managers who say something has to be delivered by X time, at X cost - no alternative outcomes. And somehow by demanding these things they think they’ll happen. But the real world doesn’t work like that. It really doesn’t care about price, or shouty words. Immovable deadlines are often missed.

Managers’ role in life is to facilitate others. Create an environment in which others can thrive. Thierry Henry looked like a flimsy winger when he arrived at Arsenal....

At a young impressionable age, you might nod eagerly.

A bit older and you inwardly say 'wanker'.

Late on in your working life you might even object out loud. If the tosspot manager insists on HR getting involved, there might even be an early retirement option, but you don't back down. You know he is a wanker and he knows what you think.

BTW, you may be surprised to learn that I work for myself in my own company.

Yup, been there, done the Sales Manager’s mantra - tell them how to do it, show them how to do it, let them do it and ignore the inevitable mistakes, then when they’ve successfully done it, praise them loud and long. 👏

Of course it goes without question that he’ll get 100% support and be given time from those inside the club and and he also will from the vast majority of fans. It was aimed at the those who don’t seem to think he deserved that time and support because of his price tag.

I so wish Berge had tracked Maupay for Brightons goal. That one mistake has cast a big psychological shadow over our standing in the table these two weeks leading up to a game with revitalised Norwich. Game time for his getting up to speed has come at a cost. Hope like Hell he has learned from this. three points v Norwich are essential to maintain our momentum
