Outgoing? Leon Clarke

I think because of his age clubs are waiting to take Clarke on a free transfer. Although I am sure we would just pay him up if a club was interested in him.

Wilder said at the start of the window we’d do that if no offers emerged. If he’s not in the 25, we might as well too given he won’t be able to play for us. Same with the others that have their contracts up in the summer – Holmes and Wright. We gain nothing by keeping them, and I doubt our cash flow is such that paying their remaining contracts now is a problem.

One of Wilder's best signings. Clarke's contribution to our rise was immense, and although only one game, the way he made the pigs defence look threadbare, confused, and a complete shambles at their ground, will live in memory for as long as any Blade who attended can recall. Great player, and Leon will always be held in the highest regard for what he did for us.

Contrary to his reputation he has always put a shift in for us and has been fantastic for the club. If only he could've signed off his time by finishing that chance against Liverpool at home, would've been magic!

And then did the same to Wolves a few days later 😍

Been surplus for 2 years now.

Let’s hope Wilder has learned lessons about throwing utterly ridiculous contracts at players on the back of a handful of good / decent performances.

Onwards !

His goal for Wigan v Weeds was probably as important to us as his goals at the Sty.

He and Duff were so vital to our 2 Champ years!

He didn’t score, but he did set up their opener. The way he celebrated on his own when that goal went in showed how much that meant to him. He was playing for us in that game 100%.

And let's hope you learned lessons about how wrong you were about Leon 🙃

So so so wrong.
So wrong in fact that no one wants him !

No interest.
Nada.

Wilder and about 20,000 Blades fans might be a tad surprised by this.

Moi ???

If he’s released I doubt he’ll be waiting long to find a new club. His deft flick through to Sharp last Saturday was all the evidence you need to still see what he can bring to a team.

Might be something to do with him being 35 and on sky high wages in comparison to his ability/age

I can only think that the reason no one is in for him is that he looks like that Abu Hamza bloke with his straggly beard and it puts people off. If he has a shave he'll be fine.

If he loses a spot in the squad it's not the end of the world. He's only really been involved in the Cup games anyway and the 25 man squad rule doesn't apply to that competition.

He should lose his place in the 25 man squad. As great as he's been for us, the only reason he stayed in the summer is due to his wages. He's obviously at the stage of his career where he's happy just rocking up to training 5 days a week. And let's be honest if he was prepared to drop his wage demands to go and play football its highly likely he goes and we don't loan out Robinson, who even though has lived up to expectations has at least contributed something this season. Thanks for the memories Leon but time to go fella

Wilder literally said today we have had no interest in him which is surprising..... nothing to do with wage demands, just no one wants him

Obviously clubs know about his wages. I can't rally blame Leon tho if his wages are really that high compared to what he can get in league 1 / championship? He only got a few years to cash and then he retires, and he doesn't strike me as the type of guy that likes sitting in an office (let alone have any skills to do something useful there)

Wilder said we were going to pay him up, im sure we would pay 50/60/70% of his wages to send him out on loan rather than pay the whole thing in a lump sum.

The reason that no one is interested is 100% due to his wage demands

Giving him a new three year deal at his age was a bit daft of Wilder. Getting promoted has taken the edge off having the likes of Clarke, Holmes and Thomas sat around on their contracts but had we not gone up then it would be an issue.

Cancel contract and pay him off next week, been a good servant to Blades and we will never forget bouncing day

It's quite unreal how far the club has come under Wilder yet he could still field a team which contains 9 of the League One promotion team:

Moore
Basham Wright O'Connell
Freeman xxx Fleck xxx
Duffy
Sharp Clarke

Appreciate that Duffy is not coming back and Jake Wright will be moved on without playing again, but how unreal is that?

Well it was a choice of that or selling him to our rivals, Villa. That would have sent out a great message to the rest of the players, the supporters and possibly potential signings.

That would be the conventional and popular view.

I seem to remember some daft twat suggested otherwise.

You might have a point if we hadn’t been promoted.
And cos we did, I don’t ??

Interesting point of view.

Another would be Clarke’s most influential season, and productive in terms of goals was the season we didn’t get promoted 😉
