West Brom are in talks with Sheffield United about a deal for striker Callum Robinson, as Slaven Bilic looks to strengthen his attacking options in the pursuit of promotion.

Skysports news

Let the lad go if it ,Evans Billy gets more of a chance, I’ve seen more from Bill in these last few games than Robinson In the last few months, give him champ game time and a nice loan fee for us.

Good move for all involved and would suggest we are making serious moves too.

Have to say though when will the assumption that being black means having pace end?

this guy seems to be the big itk for wba. looks like he's leaving on loan then. wonder who we're bringing in. Said on sky sports we'd only let him go if we had a replacement

Tbh, Wilder’s always spoken of 5 strikers in the group, so perhaps Clarke will just get upgraded to 5th choice and we add an extra midfielder for the 25.

After Saturday, he's effectively 5th choice striker and if I'm being brutally honest, Leon, who has been regarded as 6th choice made a far greater impact, almost assisting for Billy and getting a shot on target himself.

With a few exceptions he's the second or third sub right now that gets on. Any combination of Billy, McBurnie, Didzy and Mousset are usually the go to.

He's had his moments, goal at Chelsea , when I didn't think he'd had that good a game, cross vs Arsenal that led to Fleck's goal and the ball for McBurnie for the equaliser against Man U. So he's had some memorable moments but nothing to suggest he's really got hold of the role he is supposed to be playing. In this day and age we could get a decent loan fee for him given West Brom's position. It won't hurt his value being loaned and with a few strikers aging, maybe taking a view in the summer is the right thing. Though if offered money back or more, it would be tempting.

But for the role he plays, unless, touch wood, we get injuries, his cameos can be taken up by Freeman or Morrison. In the case of the latter, a 20 minute dart to try and create something from nothing when the game is already stretched, isn't this exactly the situation that is suited to him? If it is difficult to get him in a structure, it would seem the type of cameo Robinson has been reduced to would fit perfectly.

It also wouldn't hurt opening up some minutes for Freeman unless he is also off.

Kind of makes sense all round. We brought in 3 forwards in the summer and 2 are our top scorers. It's still decent success and for Robbo, let's just see, eh?

Stilll not sure what to think regards Robinson.
In pre-season be looked our best player....enjoying himself scoring quite a few goals.
We had a pre-season poll on here and I’m sure CR won the most votes when we tried to predict which new signing would be the biggest success.

but it’s as though his position doesn’t quite suit him. He looks busy but never seems to get into a game.
also (unlike our other players) CR doesn’t seem the best without the ball, his tackles/ challenges always seem half hearted and weak.
Also agree he seemed really quick on the wing for Preston but for some reason doesn’t seem so quick for us.

Wouldn't totally right him off though......he DID impress in pre-season friendlies and he’s still young.
Seems a good lad too.....good laugh and upbeat in the dressing room.

In time Robinson could be pretty useful for us if played right but that would mean a formation change and that doesn’t look like coming any time soon. The time is right for a loan.

All some of us have been asking is why Robbo has had a lot more game time than Billy, Billy has proved beyond doubt that he’s more useful than Robbo and at the moment in time I’d rather have Clarke infront of Robbo, seriously, he’d offer much more.

Robbo isn’t crap and I’m not writing him off, he just doesn’t suit how we setup or play and as I say we’d need a tweak in formations and how we approach games to fit him in, that ain’t happening any time soon so a loan is for the best.

Robbo has had some decent moments for us, a couple of valuable assists for us recently. Was scoring for fun pre-season but has been unable to carry that through to the prem for whatever reason. Theres a good player in there for sure.

Maybe the position we're in allows Wilder to play a younger Robbo, in the hope he can improve, in place of someone like Clarke, who will be out of the squad soon.
If we we're in the bottom 4 scrapping for every draw, Robinson wouldn't get any minutes, but Wilder thinks it's beneficial to put out players of 'the future' now we are relatively safe.
The caveat being, finishing higher gets more prize money. But we still have to blood every new player into our system - better to do it while we aren't fighting relegation.

Report saying loan deal agreed

“West Brom have reached an agreement with Sheffield United about a deal to sign striker Callum Robinson this week, Football Insider can reveal.”
CW must be confident of a replacement this week then if true

I really wouldn't be upset if Clarke took the 5th choice spot as per the suggestion above - it's a role that'll get 5 or 10 minutes every other game so it isn't that important. If it means us bringing in others elsewhere then that's fine by me.

Why bother replacing him this January ....wait for the better deals in the summer ...

We only need six points to guarantee our position in he top flight for next year ..and Clarke ( on lot less wages ) ..can do the job that Robinson has done ..I.e bit player ..

That's not a daft idea really

Nahki Wells.!!! ..wtf .....complete waste of money that would be for the game time ....pointless waste of resources as we would have to buy him outright ..

A big fat hairy no thanks

I'm not as harsh a critic of Robinson as some. I like the lads character, but game time a must. Think he can be a top player for us, but not quite ready yet.

Whilst Robinson has probably been our most disappointing signing, especially considering his pre-season. His performance against Chelsea and assists vs man utd and arsenal definitely show he offers us something different. He's not as pacey as I thought he would be but he's got quicker feet than our other forwards.

Its weird, I've never seen someones arms and legs move so much to not go anywhere fast I just don't get it.

Maybe a confidence thing, not sure but for me a loan out to hopefully get some game time then re-assess in the summer.

Said it elsewere, for me Freeman is a better option than Robinson.
