Last time I recall Blades being this high in the league was back in the early seventies. Just a kid then. If you ask me the team then I would come up with the following list .. but is this just my nostalgic memory or did this team actually play together? Perhaps the Addison/Dearden/Salmons combination is the point of most likely divergence?

Hodgkinson
Badger
Hemsley
Flynn
Colquhoun
Hockey
Woodward
Salmons
Addison
Currie
Reece

What a team!!

From recollection Dearden and Salmons were in that team. On my death bed as I breathe for the last time that would be the team I remember

Think Addison had long gone
He was still at the club . His last league match was at Luton in December 1970 when he got the bad injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season but he came on as sub in the 4-0 County Cup win at Rotherham in May 1971

Hockey was signed the same day as John Hope, who immediately replaced Hodgy in goal. I therefore suspect they never played in the same team.
Correct, Hodgy played one or two reserves games in February 1971 and then retired

Keith Edwards debuted in the disastrous 1975-76 season (I think- he might have played some matches in 74-75. I wasn't around then but Silent Blade should know). I bet not many fans thought he'd become a Blades legend!

In my time (from memory) we have been top 10 3 times. 72 (Harris); 75 (Furphy); 92 (Bassett).

The 70’s team was lost for the fourth side - and was probably our only real chance to become something special. By the 90’s money was more important than ability and we only flattered to deceive through Harry’s inspiration.

This time we are back on the brink, but holding it together and moving on will take a great deal of management skill, careful funding and luck.

I feel blessed to be able to enjoy this magical present - which has taken me full circle, back to where it all began for me.
