Christmas has always been a critical point in the season for us in recent years. Some bad but recently good, let’s hope that recent trend continues. Someone posted a couple of months ago, the an analysis of the relative difficulty of fixtures and we are supposed to have had one of the toughest starts to the season so the omens are good.
 
I’m not really thinking about it, just loving every minute of it and taking each game as it comes.

I don’t doubt that we can keep up our standards and play at this level all season, perhaps even push on a bit more. We’ve been told we can’t play like this for a full season for the last 3 seasons and managed it just fine. We could also feel like we should have a few more points right now too.

I imagine that some of the teams around us - looking at Arsenal and Wolves in particular will also improve in the new year. Wolves got off to a slow start but are looking more like it now and then let’s face it Arsenal could hardly be any worse. Others will probably try and add to their squads as well.

basically what I’m trying to say is I think we’re doing amazingly well and we might finish in or around the European spots but I think it’s more likely we might just slip a few places into mid table. Not because we fall away or get found out but because others improve and pick up more points in half 2 compared to half 1. There are world class players under performing at teams around us.

im enjoying it more than I thought I would though and it’s wonderful to not really be worried about relegation at this point. Just keep doing what we’re doing and we’re totally comfortable with a potential shot at Europe. Presenters are spaffing their pants at us at every opportunity (even if we are basic) and saying Arsenal players wouldn’t get a game. Wow, Just wow.
 
Can we get into europa spots? Of course we can. Personally I feel we may just fall short but you have to keep aiming high and stretching your expectations as that’s the way to progress.

As others have said I’d also kill to see us lifting the fa cup at Wembley
 
Our players will be desperate to test themselves in Europe. Whether we make it or not, it won’t be for lack of trying.

Christmas trees up, fires on, some decent TV on the go and the kids are alright.

We are Sheffield United. We have never got ahead of ourselves, ever. That's the likeability of us as a club and a fanbase and what sets us apart from S6. No need to start now.
 
We still keep waiting for the wheels to fall off. But we are actually getting better and better. Comparing the team that played Palace to the assured, purring “Rolls Royce” that easily dispatched Villa is so startling.
Make sure your passports are up to date fellow Blades.

I think that was partly planned by CW/AK as they knew we were not ready for the PL.

Just my hunch though.

I should add, I'll always want us to employ fiscal intelligence where wage structures are concerned, but there's an inevitability in all of this if we're to progress and become an even better team than we already are. It won't happen immediately, and if we can find two or three gems from the lower divisions we'll all be delighted, but we'll also have to broaden our net to look at players already with Prem teams, and then of course there are players who are signed to clubs in Europe or further afield, like Japan for example.

A lot to consider I'm aware, but we need to plan for the present and the future. What gives me an underlying confidence is the fact that our manager is top draw, a fact that some pundits are gradually coming round to appreciate, while one or two, Garth Crooks being the outstanding example of someone who has little or no appreciation of what it is we're about as a club, seem incapable of seeing what's before their eyes.....oh well, their loss.

If you recall all the talk pre season, it was about avoiding relegation. Almost up to Christmas now and if it's expectations, or fantasy, the fans thoughts have evolved, taking into account our current position.

The team position, and certain individual performances, have developed greater expectation from fans. Why not dream of the next level? The CWAK partnership is slowly earning respect from outside the club. It's a level of respect that fans and players have grown into over the last 3 years.

Of course we could still slip and get involved in relegation, but that now seems unlikely. No one knows how the opposition will react to our style in the return fixtures, but I have a suspicion that the club staff are already working on that. It's the reason we got promoted last season. I also think it will be very tough if we lose just one player to long term injury. We don't have battle hardened deputies for all positions, but we are still scoring goals from different players and positions.

It seems likely that prudence and Wilders eye for potential will rule our JTW. That will keep our feet on the ground, and ensure no major fall away in performance levels next year. Dreams are just fine for fans. Let CWAK worry about reality. They are pretty good at that. :)

In my lifetime , other than Joe Shaw I can think of no other player more deserving of that honour than him .

That would be good mate, but I think the creation of some sort of dependency on signing the sort of player you describe may not always be possible. I could be wrong mind, it has been known, but I wonder how often we'll be able to return to the same well and draw upon it's resources.

Circumstances change, for individuals as it does for a football club, so how we're perceived will depend on how well we're doing as much as how others perceive us.
Our history has been a bit of a mixed bag, and for the average Blade, of which I suppose I'd count myself amongst, I'd say we've probably underwhelmed rather than consistently excelled. All of which tends to dismiss why supporters support their club. We all live in hope, and I've been fortunate enough to see some genuinely great players wear our colours. I suppose my concerns rest with that period that follows the time when Chris Wilder finally relinquishes the post of manager of the Blades. It will certainly be a sad and concerning day when Chris leaves, we'll have set our management bar so high that whoever takes over will need exceptional qualities on a level that you rarely see. We've been spoilt by Chris, so the expectations that come with this are, whether we realise it or not, on a level that few fans come to experience.

I've digressed mate, I hope you're right, I hope we continue in the same vein, but as we've seen, under Wilder and Knill we've experienced a golden age of watching a team play in a way that makes all the previous disappointment worth the wait. To see such exceptional football played, both home and away, by mostly unknown and supposedly average players is what's made this journey such a spectacular experience for every Blade fortunate enough to have been there while it happened.

I'm not sure Liverpool fans even know what relegation is. They've been in the top tier since 1962 whcih is much longer than Spurs, Chelsea, Manyoo, City et al (only bettered by Everton and Arsenal).

I think we can be excused for not behaving like Liverpool fans.

I don't know you Portsmouth Wigan Swansea & Birmingham what was your favourite moment of the last decade (or 12 yrs if pompey) I doubt they would be saying finishing 10th or surviving relegation. it would be remember that amazing day out when we won the FA / League cup

True but I feel Chelsea are a better side since that day. But we are punching and in there. Who knows, but start of the season I'd have easily taken 9th or 10th

Could be an opportunity for Crab Tours to restart the coaches to France, Italy, Germany and Belgium. Vern couldn't use them this time for disposing of unwanted items, though.

Hmmm not sure sure, count Heinrich von crabbe toured Europe back in the early to mid 40s, didn't end well......

Chelsea have lost 4 out of last 5, struggling a bit to be fair.
