The biggest clubs in Yorkshire has been the same as long as I've been alive.

1. Leeds (by a mile)
2. Sheffield Wednesday
3. Sheffield United

I seriously doubt this order will ever change in my lifetime.

They must have been there in the early 80s as well because Auf Wiedersehen Pet series 1 did a full episode about them going over the border to Holland to watch them and Oz got deported back to England. So thats historical and legal record.

It's already changed. We have had a higher average attendance than them in 14 of the past 20 seasons. We play in a higher division than them, have a better stadium and have been promoted to the PL three times this century compared to their zero.

Brentford who've had 10 top flight seasons in their history and never reached an FA Cup semi final (one League Cup semi final recently).

They're a League One level club, like Bournemouth.

5 FA Cup semi finals in Premeir League era but lost them all. Leeds hadn't reached one since the 80s until last season.

A couple of League Cup semi finals as well post-2000.

I think 9 play off defeats as well with none won.

Doubt we ever will.

Were well on course until Covid struck. Lost last 3 games of the season. Win 2 of them and would have made Europa League. Add to that goal-line tech failure at Villa.

There might be some truth in that but it doesn't explain the non performances in all the other play off finals.

All the FA Cup and League Cup semi final defeats were disappointing but easier to swallow because by the time we get to that stage of a major competition we always come up against a team that we're not expected to beat.

And we followed it up with a 3-0 win against Watford. Also a big game in the context of that season. 42,963 and 38,857 turned out for those matches which tells you how 'big' we thought they were

At a lower level, the 4-0 win away at Peterborough in the fourth division season was of huge importance.

And, of course, there was the 5-2 away win at Leicester which confirmed our return to the first division after a 14 year absence. At that time it was the longest period of time that either Sheffield club had been absent from the top flight. At the start of play we were just 2 points ahead of Newcastle and with a worse goal difference. We had to win to be sure. That was a huge game.

But I take your point, that there have been far too many occasions where we have come up short in big games. But, we do succeed occasionally.

Brentford are currently more successful, but not a bigger club.

In Sheffield and maybe a good portion of Yorkshire I think the perception is a bit different.
But there is no denying that the way the two clubs are viewed in relation to each other by your average football fan has shifted quite a lot of over the last 45 years.

Fact is we have beaten them more times than they have beaten us in games that matter. League, League Cup and FA Cup. And that margin has widened in recent seasons.
We have the record away winning margin and the record number of goals ever scored in a home game.
And this isn't just a small sample of games.
If they want to be bigger, so be it. We'll just be better and history confirms that we are.

Was in London last year, and was driven in a taxi by a 60 odd year old Cockney taxi driver.

Got talking about football, and he said "I've always perceived Wednesday as being a much bigger club than United".
