Can we finish in the top 7 ? I don’t think it would be crazy to say we could finish 7th ?

It’s happening ......

I have only seen 3 teams better than us so far, on that point the answer at the minute for me is yes. We only get better as the season goes on under Wilder, Knill and co.

F.a. Cup anyone? When I was a kid that was the dream, to play at Wembley in the F,A. Cup final, it's lost some of the glamour but could this be tye season to have a go? Not sure Wilder/Knill would see it but could be a way to get into Europe

Would rather win the FA cup and finish 17th than 7th 🤷‍♂️

3 months ago? Yes.

Now? Not a chance. Liverpool have disappeared with the league, the FA cup will become a priority for a few teams this season.

It depends on how the squad copes with injuries and suspensions. The former may not be such an issue as we have had an excellent injury record under CW. Not sure we’ll avoid the latter for much longer. Similarly there may come a point where we have to rotate for fatigue, such as after international breaks.

A further challenge maybe that we see a few of the stronger sides adopting the park the bus, counter attack style if we keep going as we are and a point at Bramall Lane, or indeed just against us, becomes a good/key point.

The milestone is the 40 pts and if we can achieve that by the end of February, it would be an incredible achievement.

Christ. It's December. We haven't got here by acting all piggy like. Keep your head down and one game at a time and let's wait until we're mathematically safe before giving Europa nuts..
Well I for one am not going to keep my head down and only celebrate everything when we’re mathematically safe, what a boring life that would be. I don’t condition anything I say by those cunts at swillsbrough, I only say what I think or see and as it stands, right now, we have a realistic chance of finishing in the top 7, why is that so hard to accept?

Fuck the pigs, they’re an irrelevance to us.

I genuinely can't see us finishing above:
Liverpool
Leicester
Citeh
Spurs
Man U
Chelski
Wolves

Arsenal might still come good and Palace may well end up ahead of us.

Obvs hoping for better, but 9th or 10th would still be a great season.
If we finish below Palace we’d be relegated, they’re absolutely bobbar!

Fortunately, we won’t finish below them. :)

Take away the top 3 but why not the rest? Battered Spurs/Man U/Wolves and Chelski 2nd half.

Spurs much better now Mourhino in charge, Man U turned a corner now and showed just how good they can be against us, Wolves maybe catchable, Chelsea have Jan window to strengthen (as do we of course) but they seem to be able to win games and will keep doing so. We are harder to beat at the moment, but don't win as many as them.

Wolves are below us so we don't need to catch them.

We never announced a "Europe in five years" plan. So, no. It can't happen.

I'd be a bit worried if we did. The extra games plus all the travel really takes it out of the players and we don't have the squad depth. On the other hand, I'd be delirious if I saw European football at Bramall Lane.

Using a bit of brain power at the moment our performances prove we are easily one of the best teams in the PL and if anything we seem to be getting better.
I know we lost recently at home to Newcastle but we totally dominated with Newcastle rarely getting in our half.

We’ve recently demonstrated that we’re better than Wolves. Spurs and Man Utd and Arsenal.

The main factor is what happens to our form if we pick up injuries
and how will expectation and new signings effect the team?
At least we can enjoy it....because we’re realistically safe from relegation.

Someone might suggest our 2nd half might be terrible but Wilders record shows that won’t happen.
if anything we are more likely to pick up more points in the 2nd half.

Except for our first season back in the championship when we fell away badly after xmas of course

Thats what neutrals thought.......remember many non Blades saying they knew we wouldn’t be able to keep up the good form after Xmas.
However anyone who watched our matches saw that we would have possibly been promoted at the 1st attempt.
Our form suffered 2nd half because we lost our most influential player Coutts through injury.
When he broke his leg in Nov...we were sitting top of the Champiomship and looking very strong.
Eventhough we won away at Burton we all sensed there and then that we couldn’t finish in the playoffs and our season was effectively over.

If we suffer any injuries this season then I agree its unlikely we’ll keep up the good form.
However if we remain injury free.....then the evidence suggests we’ll accrue more points in the 2nd half....now that we’re adjusting more and more to the new league.

Unfortunately football is a bit like investments - past performance is not always an indicator of future performance.

7th doesn't guarantee Europa League. Wolves got in because Man City (who won both cups) had already qualified for the Champs League. Only 5th gets access to the Europa League.

Man Utd finished 6th but qualified because City had won the League Cup. They would have had to go through Europa League qualifiers but because City then won the FA Cup too, it fast-tracked Man U straight to the group stage and presented Wolves with the qualifier route.

Finishing 7th will only help if Top 4 clubs win both cups. Or if 5th/6th place win the Europa League

And the Carabao Cup.

There are three places in the Europa League. One goes to the FA Cup winners, one goes to the Carabao Cup winners. If both of those finish in the top 6 then the third place goes to the team that finishes 7th.

Edited it before you posted ;)
